    VT Interdisciplinary Leadership Education for Health Professionals (VT-ILEHP)

    ANNOUNCING

    Traineeships/Fellowships Opportunities for 2013-2014

    The VT-ILEHP Program is pleased to announce advanced study opportunities inleadership education for health professionals through a grant award from the Maternal and ChildHealth Bureau (MCHB). The purpose of this program is to prepare culturally competent, family-centered and community-based leadership professionals to improve the health of infants, childrenand adolescents with, or at risk for, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and otherneurodevelopmental (NDD) and related disabilities and their families.

    The VT-ILEHP Program is a collaborative effort of the University of Vermont, VermontDepartment of Health CSHN/Title V Programs, Vermont Department of Education, UVM Centerfor Disability and Community Inclusion, Vermont Family Network and local health agencies. Theprogram is 9 months, from September to May, and is approximately 300 hours (about 8-10

    hrs./week). All trainees and fellows complete a core leadership curriculum and select a clinicalfocus area. There are three clinical focus areas: Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (NDD), AutismSpectrum Disorders (ASD) and Medical Home (MH).

    Ten fellowships/traineeships are available for the 2013-2014 academic year to advancedgraduate level students, postdoctoral and residency fellows or community professionals who havecompleted the basic professional level of training in their discipline and are seeking specializedtraining in interdisciplinary leadership education.

    Core Leadership Curriculum (required for all trainees and fellows [T/F])

    Orientation: Introduction to MCH leadership & LEND networks, self-assessments. Seminars: Autism, Interdisciplinary Seminar in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities I,

    Interdisciplinary Seminar in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities II (3 graduate credits each,T/Fs take 6 credits)

    Research Practicum: Skill building in critical appraisal of research enabling evidencebased practice.

    Legislative & Policy Training: Knowledge and skill building on legislative process andadvocacy with a day at the state house & visits to US Congress members local offices

    Family Connection: A guided interview with a family focused on understanding the

    family experience of raising a child with special needs

    Leadership Discussions: Interdisciplinary discussion in creative problem solving forclinical, leadership, and/or systems issues related to clinical work.

    Technical Assistance: Providedto community teams and pediatric medical homes. Leadership Goal Plan: T/Fs create & implement plan to achieve their leadership goal.

    T/Fs selec t one clinical focus area and complete the additional activities :

    Neurodevelopmental Disabilities: Community Consultation & Intervention, Tools Training

    Autism Spectrum Disorders: Differential Diagnosis & Tools Training, Joint Attention &Intervention Practicum (VB-MAPP, FBA), Community Training

    Medical Home: Internship in a Medical Home with preceptor, Collaboration with CommunityHealth Team, Attend Annual Blueprint Conference

    The following disciplines are eligible to apply for funding through our MCHB grant for

    2013-2014: medicine/pediatrics; nursing, physical therapy; occupational therapy; speech-language pathology; family support; social work; psychology; nutrition; special education; earlyintervention; audiology, and specialty areas such as policy.

    Stipends are $3,055 for 300 hundred hours, and full tuition for the required courses ispaid. You will be responsible for UVM comprehensive fees. A different level of support isavailable for doctoral level, postdoctoral and post-residency fellows in pediatrics with additionalrequirements to be met. Trainees/Fellows who satisfactorily complete all VT-ILEHP Programrequirements will receive a Certificate of Completion in Interdisciplinary Leadership Education inNeurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities. All trainee/fellowships are dependent uponcontinued grant funding.
