MORTAL COMBAT

Page 2: TRAILER INSPIRATION - MORTAL COMBAT

The trailer starts off with a tilt up establishing shot of the Police station, which was interesting as we found it quite similar to our ideas of having our trailer start the same way. We will start with an establishing shot in order to show a sense of time and where

the scene is set which is in an interrogation room in prison.

During the parole interview, the prisoner’s face is not revealed in effect to represent his hidden identity. In this screen shots you can clearly see that they use low key lighting in order to create a dark silhouette which hides his facial features. This leaves the

audience thinking about who this person could be and teases them to go and watch the film.

This part of the trailer closely relates to our film ‘Molly’ due to the fact that Freddy’s identity is also hidden. This first scene is also parallel to our first scene where Freddy is discharged from prison and is interviewed by the parole officer. This benefits our trailer

as it gives us an idea of ways to cover Freddy’s identity.

During this interview, the Parole Officer is always seen through a spotlight above him. This gives him the power and authority he has over the person across the other side. You can also tell by his facial expression that he doesn’t seem pleased at all by what

the prisoner has done and it gives the audience an idea about the type of character the prisoner may be.

The Parole Officer places images of people on the table in front of the prisoner. This is important as it could suggest the reason why the prisoner was there in the first place. This inspired me and I thought it would be interesting if we showed images of people in order to tell a story. The images are meant to be directed at the prisoner and the dialogue between the Parole Officer and the

prisoner will help to explain what’s happened but not too much, giving it all away.

The dialogue between the Parole Officer and the prisoner is shown in shot reverse shot to show who’s talking. In my trailer, the first scene will be filmed the same way showing both characters at their own side of the table.

During the Parole interview there will be jump cuts to different scenes showing the prisoner’s flashback memory of what happened. This will also be combined with the dialogue as a voice over explaining what is happening which is something we may consider

doing in our trailer.

Near the end of scene 1, a Psychiatrist is introduced where she specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders which the prisoner may have. In our trailer we will also have a Psychiatrist who deals with Freddy Shaw, and when he is released

the Psychiatrist mentions to the Parole Officer that his decision to let him go is something he shouldn’t of done.
