Editing, Framing and music• The editing for this trailer and most of the action movies that I have seen are quite fast paced using a lot of variations of

shots.• A lot of slow motion shots were used in order to give focus to specific scenes, such as the fight between master Splinter and

Shredder.

• There were multiple uses of panning of the city at the beginning, camera angles and types of shots; in fact they nearly included all the different types of shots that there are. Examples would be:

• The editing goes in sync with the music here and in most action trailers actually. It starts off with Non Diegetic inspirational music in the beginning and the music stops as soon as the camera flashes (Diegetic sound) and takes a photograph of the Turtles who thought they were unseen. The use of silence in an action movie trailer is very effective. After, Splinter speaks to the turtles in the form of a voice over (Diegetic) and a different inspirational music comes on (Non diegetic). The music stops again when Shredder’s assistant spoke about his armour then builds up to the bomb exploding. This song smoothly goes into the background of when Shredder and Splinter meet. Sound happens when text shows as well. As soon as a chase starts, Dubstep music comes on and the action is based around the music. So when the music has a pause, the character is in the air and when they hit the ground, then the music restarts. The music changes between slow from the slow scene to fast dubstep in all the fighting at the end. Plus, it continues after the title with voice over and another fighting part.

Mise en scène, Lighting and Movement• At the beginning of the trailer, there are multiple pans of the locations such as New York City and multiple screens which

look like CCTV footage, one of which being a subway station. These are a clear indication of where the film is set. The light used in the background of the monitors is green which could imply that this is the lair of the Turtles.

• There is also a flash of criminals terrorising people and bombs being planted in a subway (probably the one that explodes later on in the trailer). A lot of weapons are taken from an armoury and we get a POV shot from a train’s point of view. The lighting used to show the subway is very Low Key lighting and the lighting to show the criminals is very High Key lighting. This could imply that the figures in the dark are not noticed by the figures in the light, which would mean that they are being cautious of staying out of sight and use stealth.

• We then see the criminals being attacked from all different angles.• They are then followed up to a rooftop by a girl.

• There are also flashes of locations such as a snowy forest, a city centre and a sewer that were shown using tracking shots of the characters moving while they were in the background.

• We can also know more about the character’s personality from how they are portrayed in the trailer. For example:

Leonardo is the wisest due to how he is shown looking at the situation before getting into it.

Donatello is the most scientific/technical due to the equipment that he has.

Raphael is the toughest due to him being shown as a fighter with weapons out.

Michelangelo is the most adventurous/experimental due to him appearing alone in a Snowy forest.
