    LeMay Museum Motorcycle Show

    By Gene Walker

August 24 and 25 was the LeMay Car Museumssecond annual motorcycle show and concourse. The event, located in Tacoma WA., was open to

all motorcycle brands of any age. Nearly 200

bikes were on display. In addition to the displayof two and three-wheeled bikes, we were

entertained by the Seattle Cossacks stunt anddrill team.

Founded in 1938, the Seattle Cossacks haveperformed all across North America. They ridevintage Harleys of the 30's and 40's. The oldest isa 1930 VL and the newest a 1949 45 CI. There

are 74" and 80" VL's, UL's, and 45's, and 61" and74" Knuckleheads. All bikes are stock except forthe handlebars, which are late-50's Flanders,

these great old bikes are sturdy and stable

enough to bear the weight of multiple riders.

Perspective riders must be sponsored by a team

member and have to own and maintain their own

motorcycles. Attendance at all practice ismandatory. New riders spend one year asrookies, riding in drills and progressing to stunts

After the show, I returned to the display field to

snap a few photos of the bikes displayed there. Here are some photos of the bikes that caught my

attention. Ill start with the Jefferson.

In the first four years, demand for motorcycles at

home and abroad was good with markets firmlyestablished in South America, Europe and North

Africa. Then in 1957, news of serious financialdifficulties within the Orsi group began to leak

    out.

In 1958 the company was in serious financialdifficulties. For a variety of reasons, its foreign

customers refused to pay and were no longer

placing orders. Demand fell dramatically due tocompetition from Morini, MV Agusta, Benelli,

Laverda and others. In spite of this, there waspotential for increased sales but the company

desperately needed capital, and when in 1960 thebanks decided to 'pull the plug', it marked the end

for 'Maserati Candele, Accumulatori e Moto and

    the company went into liquidation.
