MALANDALocated in the heart of the dairy industry, Malanda is a heritage town with Australia’s longest running cinema and a cloassic old timber hotel. Take a tour of the local dairy factory and try the local produce at the Malanda Dairy Centre.
GORDONVALEThis small rural community became a sugar milling town in 1896. Walsh’s Pyramid (922m) looms over the town. It’s a lung-busting walk to the top for serious hikers.
EDMONTON

MAREEBAMareeba is rich in
agriculture and cattle. Taste a freshly roasted coffee

tropical wines and liqueurs.
TOLGARoadside stalls and shops
sell fresh produce and local arts and crafts. This area is known as the golden mile
because of its rich volcanic soil. It’s not all tropical
mangoes and macadamias. You can buy a hessian sack
of freshly dug potatoes for less than $12.
ATHERTONThe century-old Hou Wang
Chinese temple is the last surviving building of Atherton’s
once thriving Chinatown. In the late 1800’s about 1000
Chinese worked here as timber cutters and market gardeners- Australia’s fi rst tropical farmers.
THE BOULDERSThe Boulders (7km inland from Babinda) are a popular picnic area for locals and tourists, and a place of spiritual signifi cance for Aboriginal people.
PALMERSTON HIGHWAYThis scenic highway passes through some of Australia’s richest World Heritage listed tropical rainforests. It provides access to stunning gorges, waterfalls, picnic spots and camping- including 150km of walking and mountain biking trails in the Misty Mountains.
JOSEPHINE FALLSAn 800m walking track leads from the car park
to a viewing platform at the base of the falls. Fit, experienced walkers can climb up Queensland’s
highest mountain, Bartle Frere (1622 metres, 5320ft).
MILLSTREAM FALLSLocated just 3 km outside Ravenshoe township is Australia’s widest waterfall. A 400m walk from the car park will take you to the perennially fl owing Millstram Falls which spill over an old basalt lava fl ow.
MILLAA MILLAA WATERFALL CIRCUITThe 15km scenic Waterfall Circuit curves along the back roads around Millaa Millaa to three picturesque waterfalls. Short walks lead to viewing areas and swimming holes at Millaa Millaa, Zillie and Binjaa waterfalls.
