Chandigarh Traffic Police organized 26th Road Safety Week 2015 in
UT, Chandigarh from 27th January to 2nd February, 2015 with the
theme “Safety is not just a slogan”, It‟s a way of life. The traffic
awareness function and Cultural evening was inaugurated by
Advisor to the Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh at Tagore Theatre,
Sector 18, Chandigarh today i.e. on 27.01.2015 as a part of opening
ceremony. On 28.01.2015, Road Safety Workshop for School Bus
Drivers/CTU Bus Drivers/conductors was held at Auditorium Traffic &
Security Lines, Sector-29B, Chandigarh to aware them about traffic
rules and regulations. traffic awareness function and renovated
Children Traffic Park was inaugurated by IGP/UT Chandigarh at
Children Traffic Park Sector 23, Chandigarh in association with the
Honda Motorcycles & Scooter, India.
2. Traffic Chandigarh Traffic Police organized Ulta Pulta Traffic Safety
Function in memory of Late Sh. Jaspal Bhatti, Brand Ambassador, at
Chitkara School Auditorium, Sector 25, Chandigarh. Artist Sunil
Grover, (Guthi of Comedy Nights) gave special performance on this
occasion. Sh. Anurag Aggarwal, IAS, Home Secretary, Chandigarh
was the Chief Guest. Sh. A.S. Cheema, IPS, DIG/UT, Sh. Sukhchain
Singh, IPS, SSP/UT, Sh. Maneesh Chaudhry, IPS, SSP Traffic & Sec.
along with other officer were present on the occasion.
3. 9.1.2016 In view of prohibition on plying of Diesel Three-wheelers (Auto
Rikshaw) in the territory of U.T, Chandigarh by State Transport
Authority. As on 08.1.2016 Chandigarh Traffic Police initiated a
special drive against the Diesel Three-wheelers (Auto Rikshaw)
roaming in the city without any permit. During the drive, 35 number
of Three-wheelers impounded on 08.1.2016 and 53 number of Three-
wheelers impounded on 9.1.2016 upto 3.00 PM and drive against
plying of Diesel Three-wheelers (Auto Rikshaw) is still continue.
Further, during the special drive against drunken driving as on
8.1.2016 drunken driving nakas were laid in the various parts of city
and 52 numbers of vehicles were impounded for drunken
driving.
4. 14.02.2016 On last day of Road Safety Week “Time for Action” a free Eye
check-up camp was organized in Traffic Police Lines, Sector-29,
Chandigarh by Charitable Eye Hospital Sohana, Distt. Mohali,
Punjab for Traffic Staff of Chandigarh Police, CTU Bus Drivers & Auto
Rickshaw Drivers. Total 108 CTU Bus Drivers & Auto Rickshaw Drivers
took part in this Medical Check-up Camp. Apart from this, a
Meditation Camp was also organized by Brahma Kumari Ashram,
Sector-33, Chandigarh. Literature and CD‟s for awareness on Road
Safety were also distributed by Chandigarh Traffic Police.
5. 13.02.2016 On 6th day of traffic week a Cricket Match played between
Chandigarh Police v/s Press Club Chandigarh was held at Police
Lines Sector-26 Chandigarh. Sh. A.S. Cheema IPS, W/DIG/UT,
Chandigarh was the Chief Guest & Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill IPS,
W/SSP/UT, Chandigarh, Sh. Maneesh Chaudhry IPS, W/SSP/Traffic &
Security, Sh. R.N. Meena, IPS, Commandant IRB Chandigarh ,All
DSPs, all Inspectors and all Traffic Marshals were present during the
event. During the Cricket match Chandigarh Police won the Match
against Press Club Chandigarh. The winner team & participants
were appreciated by W/DIG and prizes were given to them for their
performances. Revamped Traffic Police Black Book-2016 having
detailed information of road accidents and the Chandigarh Police
annual review Booklet and Calendar Yearly 2016 was also released.
SP Communication Mr. Roshan Lal were honoured by Chief Guest
Sh. A.S Cheema IPS, W/DIG/UT, Chandigarh. A Free Sugar Test
Camp organized by Medicose lab. Sector-22 Chandigarh. Members
of Union Bank of India & Press Club Chandigarh also honoured the
Chief Guest Sh. A.S. Cheema IPS, W/DIG/UT, Chandigarh. 4 Traffic
Police Personnel and 25 Traffic Marshals were also awarded by the
Chief Guest for bravery and good duty. The names are given below

6. 12.02.2016 On fifth day of 27th Road Safety Week-2016, Sh. A.S Cheema IPS,
W/DIG/UT, Chandigarh inaugurated “Wheel Clamps” and Release
Traffic Book (Drive Safe-Stay Smart) by Dr. Guneet Singh and Year
Book of Honda, E-mail ID launch for women rider learner i.e.
[email protected] of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter
India Pvt.Ltd by the Chief Guest. In this occasion Dr.Sukhchain Singh
Gill IPS, W/SSP/UT, Chandigarh, Sh. Maneesh Chaudhry IPS,
W/SSP/Traffic & Security, Sh. R.N. Meena, IPS, Commandant IRB
Chandigarh, Mr. P. Rajagopi, Head- Sales and Business Planning,
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt.Ltd, Sh. Nitesh Ranjan Dy.
GM Union Bank of India were also present. 16 Traffic Marshals were
also honoured. Traffic Police organized a painting competition for
school children. About 425 students from Govt./Private schools of
the city participated in this competition, Free Sugar Test Camp
organized by Medicose lab. Sector-22 Chandigarh and Cultural
programme “Giddha” and “Bhangra” was also presented by the
Chandigarh Police Personnels. Traffic Marshals presented a skit on
Road Safety at Children Traffic Park Sector 23, Chandigarh.
7. 11.02.2016 On the 4th day of the 27th National Road Safety Week, Road Safety
Workshops were organized in IT Park DLF Building in IBM Company &
Infosys Company Chandigarh. In these workshops employees of
both Companies participated, traffic officials/traffic marshals and
92.7 BIG FM RJ Abhimanyu delivered the lecture on road safety and
distributed the road safety literatures and CD‟s were also distributed
to the participants. Films on road safety were also shown to aware
them about the traffic rules and regulations.
Beside this, a Blood Donation Camp was also organized at Police
Lines Sector-26, Chandigarh with the help of a team from PGI
Chandigarh in which 79 Chandigarh Police Personnels were
donated blood. The aim of organizing this Blood Donation Camp is
to encourage the general public to donate blood which is very
precious for saving the lives of innocent people on happening of a
road accident
8. 10.02.2016 On the 3rd day of the 27th National Road Safety Week, Road Safety
Workshops were organized in Vivek High School Sector 38,
Strawberry Field School Sector 26, Guru Gobind Singh School Sector
26, Gurukul Global School,Mani Majra,St Anne‟s School Sector 32,
MCM College Sec-36 & Home Science College Sec-10 Chd. In
these workshops students/employees of the educational institutions
participated, traffic officials/traffic marshals delivered the lecture on
road safety and distributed the road safety literatures to the
participants. Films on road safety were also shown to aware them
about the traffic rules and regulations.
9. 09.02.2016 On the second day of 27th National Road Safety Week, Road
Safety exhibitions were installed in Punjab University, Plaza Sector 17
& Ellante Mall, Chandigarh. In these exhibitions students/employees
& general public participated & road safety literatures distributed to
the participants & HC Bhupinder Singh presented a traffic
awareness song in Ellante mall to encourage the people to follow
traffic rules .Beside this, Female officials of traffic police, Chandigarh
were attended the seminar for women‟s studies and development
in Punjab University Chandigarh.
10. 08.02.2016 Chandigarh Traffic Police organized the 27th National Road Safety
Week 2016 in UT, Chandigarh from 8th February to 14th February,
2016 to inculcate the culture of road safety amongst the citizens
with the theme “Time for action”.
During this, Road Safety Workshops were organized in Delhi Public
School Sector 40, St. John School Sector 26, Moti Ram Arya Public
School, Sector 27, Dev Samaj College, Sector-45 & SGGS College for
Girls, Sector 26, Chandigarh. In these workshops
students/employees of the educational institutions participated,
traffic officials/traffic marshals delivered the lecture on road safety
and distributed the road safety literatures to the participants. Films
on road safety were also shown to aware them about the traffic
rules and regulations.
11. 12.05.2016 Zero Tolerance Day by Chandigarh Traffic Police
To keep the city peaceful & secure, Chandigarh Traffic Police
initiated Zero Tolerance Day on 12.05.2016 from 12 AM to 12 AM. The
basic purpose of this was to aware general public to follow traffic
rules without any failure. Following traffic rules is not any option its
mandatory. The exercise was done under the close supervision of
SSP/UT, Chandigarh.
Total 94 Nakas comprising 18 drunken driving nakas, 8 over speed
nakas and 68 others were laid within the city. For this purpose, about
568 Police Personnel including 3 DSPs, 6 Inspectors were deployed
at these Nakas. Total 2634 challans were issued which includes 79
for drunken driving & 1276 for over speeding. Total 126 vehicles
were impounded under the provision of Motor vehicle Act. The
wheels of 7 vehicles were clamped and 12 vehicles were towed
away by recovery van. Fine of Rs 6,56,100/- was collected in a single
day on single window.
12. 03.06.2016 Inauguration of Canteen in Traffic & Security Line Sector 29,
Chandigarh Sh.Tajender Singh Luthra, IPS, W/IGP UT, Chandigarh
inaugurated the newly built Canteen in Traffic & Security Line Sector
29, Chandigarh. Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill IPS, SSP/UT, Sh Krishan
Kumar, DSP/Traffic/Central, Sh. Rajeev Kumar Ambasta, DSP/Traffic
Admn & South and all traffic Inspectors were also present during this
occasion. The objective of the canteen is to provide vantage to the
general public who visiting daily to our Challaning Branch to pay
the compounding fees as well as to the traffic staffs also.
13. 23.07.2016 Drunken Driving Nakas in City
Chandigarh Traffic Police and PCR laid down joint nakas in different
areas of city on 23.07.2016 from 9:30 PM to 11:30 PM. The Nakas
were supervised by Sh. Rajeev Kumar Ambasta, DSP/Traffic (Admn.,
South, Road Safety and R&D). During these nakas, total 82 challans
were issued in which 75 for drunken driving and 07 challans were for
miscellaneous traffic violations. During the drive total 75 vehicles
were also impounded. The exercise was done under the close
supervision of Sh. Eish Singhal, IPS, SSP/Traffic & Security, Chandigarh.
This drive will be continued in future in order to save precious
human lives
14. 03.09.2016 Traffic Awareness / Helment Distribution
Chandigarh Traffic Police organized a road safety awareness
program regarding Helmet among the women. Bollywood actors
Sohail Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Niwazudin Siddiqui grace the
occasion. Sh. Roshan lal SP-Communications & Law and Order,
Chandigarh Police also present to aware the general public
specially women to wear the helmet while driving/riding a two
wheeler.
15. 04.11.2016 Road Safety Programme by Braham Kumari Ashram
As a part of Chandigarh 7th Police Week being celebrated from 01
to 07 Nov 2016, Chandigarh Traffic Police organized a road safety
programme today i.e. 04.11.2016 at 1100 hours in traffic auditorium,
traffic lines, sec-29, Chandigarh. Wherein the representatives of
Braham Kumari Ashram delivered lectures on road safety under All
India road safety awareness plan. The programme was attended by
approximately 150 officers and jawans of Chandigarh police and
CRPF including autoricshaw drivers and the general public.
16. 05.11.2016 Painting Competition
As a part of 7th Chandigarh Police Week 2016 being celebrated
from 01 to 07 Nov 2016, today, Chandigarh Traffic Police in
association with Honda motorcycles & Scooters India Pvt, Ltd
organized a painting competition amongst the school students at
Children Traffic Park Sector-23, Chandigarh. The theme of
competition was “Chandigarh and cycling is made for each other”
In this competition about 200 students participated from the
different Government and private schools of Chandigarh. Sh Eish
Singhal, IPS, SSP/Sec. & Traffic Chandigarh police were as Chief
Guest. Sh Krishan Kumar, DSP/Traffic/Central, Sh Yash Pal, DSP/Traffic
Admn, traffic Inspectors and traffic marshals were also present.
17. 11.11.2016 UMI AWARDS-- BEST PRACTICE PROJECTS IN URBAN TRANSPORT
“BEST INITIATIVE FOR IMPROVED ROAD SAFETY”
Dr Eish Singhal, IPS, SSP/Security & Traffic is awarded with a special
award for his project “Safety Begins with Team Work” under the
category of “Best Initiative For Improved Road Safety” during
Valedictory Session on 11th November, 2016 by Hon‟ble Minister of
State for Urban Development, Govt. Of India on the concluding day
of Urban Mobility India (UMI) 2016 at Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Sh. Rao
Inderjit Singh, Hon‟ble Minister of State, Ministry of Urban
Development, Govt. Of India conferred the award to Dr Eish
Singhal, IPS, SSP/Security & Traffic, UT, Chandigarh. Shri Nitin Bhai
Patel, Deputy CM, Gujarat and Shri Durga Shankar Mishra,
Additional Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development were also
present there. The aim of project was prevention of road traffic
crashes and to minimize the injuries and damage they cause by
effective law enforcement action supported by the role of
awareness raising campaigns among people about traffic rules &
regulations. Engaging civil society, academia, private sectors and
philanthropic persons for effective execution of four pronged
strategy of 4Es i.e. Education, Enforcement, Engineering changes
and Emergency care training. Citizen volunteers having knowledge
of public dealing are involved as “Marshals”. They accompany the
traffic police officials during their special traffic rules enforcement
drives as well as traffic safety awareness campaigns. Road Safety
Cell has been set up at Children Traffic Park Sector 23, Chandigarh
to impart education regarding traffic rules and regulations to
general public including school/college students, vehicle drivers
and other road users etc. in association with “Honda Motorcycles
and Scooter India Private Limited”. Mobile exhibition vans for giving
lectures & showing educational and road accident related films visit
markets, tourist places etc. NGOs like “Arrive Safe” and “Tamanna”
are actively involved in organising road safety campaigns like street
functions, awareness walk and rally etc. Promoting helmet and seat
belt wearing etc. by engaging celebrities from different fields i.e.
Sachin Tendulker, Kangna Ranaut etc. PEC(Punjab Engineering
College) sharing their technical ideas in introducing effective
technology i.e. Alco-Sensor, E-Challaning system etc. Fortis Hospital,
Inscol Hospital etc providing first aid training to all traffic staffs to
strengthen pre hospital care and immediate post crash response.
18. 09.01.2017 Inauguration of 28th National Road Safety Week
On 9th January, 2016, Inspector General of Police, U.T
Chandigarh Sh. Tajender Singh Luthra, IPS inaugurated the 28th
National Road Safety Week at Govt College Sector-42, Chandigarh.
At the function, Dr. Eish Singhal, IPS, SSP/UT and Traffic & Sec., Sh.
Ravi Kumar, IPS SP Operations, Sh. Navdeep Singh Brar, IPS SP City,
Sh. Yashpal CPS, DSP Traffic Admn. & Traffic marshals were also
present. The function followed by Traffic awareness cultural
Programme, release of Tele film on road safety rules. Traffic Officials
& Traffic Marshals were honoured by the Chief Guest. The IGP/UT
appeals the general public to follow the traffic rules. The week long
awareness programme on Road Safety i.e 9th Jan to 15th Jan, 2017
by Chandigarh Traffic Police will continue in city at various venues
i.e Car rally, painting competition, Medical Check-up for drivers,
stress management & Road show etc.
19. 10.01.2017 Second Day Celebrations of 28th National Road Safety Week
In continuation of celebration of 28th National Road Safety Week,
Today i.e. 10th January, 2016, Chandigarh Traffic Police in
collaboration of Chandigarh Adventure Sports Association
organized a Women‟s Car Rally with an aim to aware citizens to
obey traffic rules & regulation and taken care about women safety.
The rally attended by about 25-30 women participants flagged off
by Dr. Eish Singhal, IPS SSP Traffic & Sec. from leisure valley and
finished at IT Park, Chandigarh covering the all major junctions of
city. Mrs. Simmy Dhaliwal Khosla & Mr. Dushywant khosla comes first,
Mrs. Inder Deep Kaur & Rehmat Aulakh stood second, Mrs Nidhi
Aulakh & Mrs. Manita Raheja comes third in the rally. Sh. Yashpal
CPS, DSP Traffic Admn. alongwith Traffic Marshals & all Traffic
Inspectors were also present during the event.
20. 11.01.2017 Third Day Celebrations of 28th National Road Safety Week
In continuation of celebration of 28th National Road Safety
Week, Today i.e 11th January, 2016 Chandigarh Traffic Police with
collaboration of 98.3 FM Radio Mirchi and Maruti Suzuki organized a
traffic awareness Camp throughout the day at all major junctions in
city to aware citizens to obey traffic rules & regulation special
emphasises on following zebra crossing on the roads. Further,
various teams of Chandigarh Traffic police personals are deputed
on major traffic junctions in the city for distribution of awareness
pamphlets on traffic rules and to present appreciation memento to
citizen for following traffic rule willingly.
21. 12.01.2017 Fourth Day Celebrations of 28th National Road Safety Week
In continuation of celebration of 28th National Road Safety Week,
on the 4th day i.e 12th January, 2016 Chandigarh Traffic Police
organised a traffic awareness workshop for Drivers of CTU, Haryana
Roadways, Auto, Taxi etc at traffic auditorium along with the
medical check-up camp laid by Fortis Hospital for the participant of
workshop. Further, stress management workshop by Baraham
Kumari‟s was also organised for participant. The entire function
presides in the presence of Dr. Eish Singhal, IPS SSP Traffic & Sec
Chandigarh. Sh. Yashpal CPS, DSP Traffic Admn. & Sh. Rajiv Kumar
Ambasta DSP South Traffic alongwith Traffic Marshals & all Traffic
Inspectors were also present during the event.
22. 13.01.2017 Fifth Day Celebrations of 28th National Road Safety Week
In continuation of celebration of 28 th National Road Safety Week,
on the 5 th day i.e. 13th January, 2017 Chandigarh Traffic Police
organized free eyes and Dental check up camp for general public
and police personals at traffic auditorium, Traffic & Security
Lines, Sector-29, Eyes checkup & Dental camp was organized
in collaboration of Eye Hospital Sohana, Mohali and Dental Hub
Dhanas, Chandigarh. Sh. Yashpal CPS, DSP Traffic Admn. alongwith
Traffic Marshals & all Traffic Inspectors were also present during
the event.
23. 14.01.2017 Sixth Day Celebrations of 28th National Road Safety Week
In continuation of celebration of 28th National Road Safety Week,
on the 6th day i.e 14th January, 2017 Chandigarh Traffic police
organized a Walk with the collaboration of HELLA India Lighting Ltd.
& Arrive Safe with the theme of “Walk towards Road safety-
Walkathon” to aware citizens about the deaths caused by road
accidents. Walk flag off from Cricket Stadium chowk Sector 16
Chandigarh by Dr. Eish Singhal, IPS SSP Traffic & Sec Chandigarh
and concluded at City Plaza, Sector 17 followed Nukad Natak on
road safety by Traffic marshal. Further, Chandigarh Traffic police
personals distribute pamphlets in the city for awareness towards
traffic rules.
24. 15.01.2017 Last Day Celebrations of 28th National Road Safety Week
In continuation of celebration of 28th National Road Safety Week,
on the 7th day i.e 15th January, 2017 Chandigarh Traffic Police in
collaboration of Fortis Hospital organised an awareness camp for
police personals at Traffic auditorium, Traffic & Security Lines, Sector-
29 to motivate the participants for organ donation. At the camp Dr.
Priyadarshi Ranjan, M.S (Surgery) Fortis Hospital addresses the
participants and gets them aware about the importance of organ
donation. He promotes the Nobel cause and encourages the
participants to pledge for organ donation. Further, Chandigarh
Traffic police personals distribute pamphlets in the city for
awareness towards traffic rules. Sh. Yashpal CPS, DSP Traffic Admn.
alongwith Traffic Inspectors were also present during the event.
25. 16.01.2017 Closing ceremony of The 28th National Road Safety Week
Today on the closing ceremony of The 28th National Road
Safety Week, His Excellency, Shri V.P. Singh Badnore, Governor of
Punjab & Administrator of UT, Chandigarh was the chief guest. On
this occasion at Children Traffic park, Sec.23, Chandigarh, in his
welcome address Sh. Alok Kumar, IPS, DIG, UT, Chandigarh
addressing to the gathering advises to follow the traffic rules and
cooperate with the traffic police. In this closing ceremony, Sh.
Anurag Aggarwal, IAS, Home Secy., UT. Chandigarh Dr. Eish Singhal,
IPS, SSP/UT, Traffic & Security, Chandigarh, Shri Rajiv Kumar Ambasta,
Sh. Yashpal DSP/Traffic/East, all other DSPs & Inspectors, Traffic
Marshals and prominent persons of the city were also present.
The gathering of about 500 peoples on this occasion
enjoyed a skit “jago loko jago” which was performed by the Traffic
Staff, Chandigarh Police & Traffic marshals as well as painting
competition was done by the school children. A traffic calendar-
2017 was also released on this occassion. Traffic Inspectors Sh.
Dilsher Singh Chandel, Ms. Paramjit Kaur Sekhon, Sh. Ranjit Singh
Dhillon, Sh. Ashwani Kumar, Sh. Kapil Dev were honored by the chief
guest of the function. The last vote of thanks was conveyed by Dr.
Eish Singhal, IPS, SSP/UT, Traffic & Security, Chandigarh.
26. 21.01.2017 Safe Braking Contest at Children Traffic Park
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. has organized Safe
Braking Contest in association with Chandigarh Traffic Police at
Children Traffic Park, Chandigarh on 21st January, 2017. The Chief
Guest of the event was Sh. Rajeev Ambasta, Dy. SP, Traffic South,
R&D Chandigarh
Safe Braking contest is a unique activity that has been
configured exclusively to on Progressive Braking in two wheelers
through a competitive environment. In this event, we have
educated the participants on significance of the following points:
1. Riding Gears (Helmet, Elbow Guard, Knee Guard and
Gloves)
2. Riding Posture
3. Progressive Braking (Importance of using both brakes in
two wheelers)
In this event, we witnessed 300+ participation from Govt.
Home Science College, Sect-10 & 11, Govt. Industrial Training
Institute, Sector-28, Govt. College of Education, Sector 20, Govt. Co-
Ed College, Sector-46 and Women‟s College, Sector-42 of
Chandigarh. The winners of the event – 1st Ms. Aarti, 2nd Ms.
Dolphin and 3rd Dolly Kohli has been congratulated with Trophies
and helmets by Sh. Rajeev Ambasta, DSP, Traffic South, R&D
Chandigarh to ensure their safety on roads.
Also in order to spread road safety awareness among larger
audience, all the participants were asked to write a Road Safety
Message to participate in Lucky Draw. The lucky winner- Ms. Alka
was congratulated with a helmet.

in collaboration of Chandigarh Adventure Sports Association
organized a Women’s Car Rally with an aim to aware citizens to
obey traffic rules & regulation and taken care about women
safety. The rally attended by about 25-30 women participants
flagged off by Dr. Eish Singhal, IPS SSP Traffic & Sec. from
leisure valley and finished at IT Park, Chandigarh covering the all
major junctions of city. Mrs. Simmy Dhaliwal Khosla & Mr.
Dushywant khosla comes first, Mrs. Inder Deep Kaur & Rehmat
Aulakh stood second, Mrs Nidhi Aulakh & Mrs. Manita Raheja
comes third in the rally. Sh. Yashpal CPS, DSP Traffic Admn.
alongwith Traffic Marshals & all Traffic Inspectors were also
present during the event.
29. 11.01.2017 Third Day Celebrations of 28th National Road Safety Week
In continuation of celebration of 28th National Road
Safety Week, Today i.e 11th January, 2016 Chandigarh Traffic
Police with collaboration of 98.3 FM Radio Mirchi and Maruti
Suzuki organized a traffic awareness Camp throughout the day
at all major junctions in city to aware citizens to obey traffic
rules & regulation special emphasises on following zebra crossing
on the roads. Further, various teams of Chandigarh Traffic police
personals are deputed on major traffic junctions in the city for
distribution of awareness pamphlets on traffic rules and to
present appreciation memento to citizen for following traffic rule
willingly.
30. 12.01.2017 Fourth Day Celebrations of 28th National Road Safety
Week
In continuation of celebration of 28th National Road Safety
Week, on the 4th day i.e 12th January, 2016 Chandigarh Traffic
Police organised a traffic awareness workshop for Drivers of CTU,
Haryana Roadways, Auto, Taxi etc at traffic auditorium along
with the medical check-up camp laid by Fortis Hospital for the
participant of workshop. Further, stress management workshop
by Baraham Kumari’s was also organised for participant. The
entire function presides in the presence of Dr. Eish Singhal, IPS
SSP Traffic & Sec Chandigarh. Sh. Yashpal CPS, DSP Traffic
Admn. & Sh. Rajiv Kumar Ambasta DSP South Traffic alongwith
Traffic Marshals & all Traffic Inspectors were also present during
the event.
31. 13.01.2017 Fifth Day Celebrations of 28th National Road Safety Week
In continuation of celebration of 28 th National Road Safety
Week, on the 5 th day i.e. 13th January, 2017 Chandigarh Traffic
Police organized free eyes and Dental check up camp for general
public and police personals at traffic auditorium, Traffic &
Security Lines, Sector-29, Eyes checkup & Dental camp was
organized in collaboration of Eye Hospital Sohana, Mohali and
Dental Hub Dhanas, Chandigarh. Sh. Yashpal CPS, DSP Traffic
Admn. alongwith Traffic Marshals & all Traffic Inspectors
were also present during the event.
32. 14.01.2017 Sixth Day Celebrations of 28th National Road Safety Week
In continuation of celebration of 28th National Road Safety
Week, on the 6th day i.e 14th January, 2017 Chandigarh Traffic
police organized a Walk with the collaboration of HELLA India
Lighting Ltd. & Arrive Safe with the theme of “Walk towards
Road safety-Walkathon” to aware citizens about the deaths
caused by road accidents. Walk flag off from Cricket Stadium
chowk Sector 16 Chandigarh by Dr. Eish Singhal, IPS SSP Traffic
& Sec Chandigarh and concluded at City Plaza, Sector 17
followed Nukad Natak on road safety by Traffic marshal. Further,
Chandigarh Traffic police personals distribute pamphlets in the
city for awareness towards traffic rules.
33. 15.01.2017 Last Day Celebrations of 28th National Road Safety Week
In continuation of celebration of 28th National Road Safety
Week, on the 7th day i.e 15th January, 2017 Chandigarh Traffic
Police in collaboration of Fortis Hospital organised an awareness
camp for police personals at Traffic auditorium, Traffic & Security
Lines, Sector-29 to motivate the participants for organ donation.
At the camp Dr. Priyadarshi Ranjan, M.S (Surgery) Fortis
Hospital addresses the participants and gets them aware about
the importance of organ donation. He promotes the Nobel cause
and encourages the participants to pledge for organ donation.
Further, Chandigarh Traffic police personals distribute pamphlets
in the city for awareness towards traffic rules. Sh. Yashpal CPS,
DSP Traffic Admn. alongwith Traffic Inspectors were also present
during the event.
34. 16.01.2017 Closing ceremony of The 28th National Road Safety Week
Today on the closing ceremony of The 28th National Road
Safety Week, His Excellency, Shri V.P. Singh Badnore, Governor
of Punjab & Administrator of UT, Chandigarh was the chief guest.
On this occasion at Children Traffic park, Sec.23, Chandigarh, in
his welcome address Sh. Alok Kumar, IPS, DIG, UT, Chandigarh
addressing to the gathering advises to follow the traffic rules and
cooperate with the traffic police. In this closing ceremony, Sh.
Anurag Aggarwal, IAS, Home Secy., UT. Chandigarh Dr. Eish
Singhal, IPS, SSP/UT, Traffic & Security, Chandigarh, Shri Rajiv
Kumar Ambasta, Sh. Yashpal DSP/Traffic/East, all other DSPs &
Inspectors, Traffic Marshals and prominent persons of the city
were also present.
The gathering of about 500 peoples on this occasion
enjoyed a skit “jago loko jago” which was performed by the
Traffic Staff, Chandigarh Police & Traffic marshals as well as
painting competition was done by the school children. A traffic
calendar-2017 was also released on this occassion. Traffic
Inspectors Sh. Dilsher Singh Chandel, Ms. Paramjit Kaur Sekhon,
Sh. Ranjit Singh Dhillon, Sh. Ashwani Kumar, Sh. Kapil Dev were
honored by the chief guest of the function. The last vote of
thanks was conveyed by Dr. Eish Singhal, IPS, SSP/UT, Traffic &
Security, Chandigarh.
35. 21.01.2017 Safe Braking Contest at Children Traffic Park
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. has organized Safe
Braking Contest in association with Chandigarh Traffic Police at
Children Traffic Park, Chandigarh on 21st January, 2017. The
Chief Guest of the event was Sh. Rajeev Ambasta, Dy. SP, Traffic
South, R&D Chandigarh
Safe Braking contest is a unique activity that has been
configured exclusively to on Progressive Braking in two wheelers
through a competitive environment. In this event, we have
educated the participants on significance of the following points:
1. Riding Gears (Helmet, Elbow Guard, Knee Guard and
Gloves)
2. Riding Posture
3. Progressive Braking (Importance of using both brakes
in two wheelers)
In this event, we witnessed 300+ participation from Govt.
Home Science College, Sect-10 & 11, Govt. Industrial Training
Institute, Sector-28, Govt. College of Education, Sector 20, Govt.
Co-Ed College, Sector-46 and Women’s College, Sector-42 of
Chandigarh. The winners of the event – 1st Ms. Aarti, 2nd Ms.
Dolphin and 3rd Dolly Kohli has been congratulated with
Trophies and helmets by Sh. Rajeev Ambasta, DSP, Traffic
South, R&D Chandigarh to ensure their safety on roads.
Also in order to spread road safety awareness among
larger audience, all the participants were asked to write a Road
Safety Message to participate in Lucky Draw. The lucky winner-
Ms. Alka was congratulated with a helmet.
36. 29.03.2017 Short Orientation Course on General Behavior
Chandigarh traffic police has conducted a short Orientation
Course on general behavior. In the workshop behavioral
classes have been conducted by Ex. Principal Capt. S.
Choudhary for the traffic police personnel in Security & Traffic
Lines, Sector-29, Chandigarh from 26th March to 29th March,
2017. Maximum Traffic Police Personnel have attended
behavioral classes for improvement in dealing with general
public. The programme has been very useful for Traffic Police
Personnel to learn about the polite behavior with general public
and self respect.
37. 19.04.2017 Today Chandigarh Traffic Police conducted a special
workshop on traffic awareness in Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School,
Sector-16, Chandigarh for promoting road safety & traffic rules.
During awareness School staff was also introduced about the
School Traffic Marshal’s Scheme and teachers were requested to
educate the parents about the School Traffic Marshal’s Scheme
and send willing to traffic lines or office of
W/SSP/Traffic/Security. Insp/Traffic/Admin Dilsher Singh with
Traffic Marshals Mrs. Mohinder Kaur Kataria and Mr. Kulmeet
Singh Sodhi were also deliver lecture on road safety and traffic
awareness.
38. 18.05.2017 Excellence Award
Chandigarh Traffic Police has been awarded Police Excellence
Award in the category of best of Traffic Management by Cops
Today, International, a journal on Internal Security published by
Foundation for Police Research at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on
18th May, 2017. The award has been received by Sh. Yesh Pal,
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic on behalf of Chandigarh
Police. The award was given by Sh. T.N. Mishra, Former Director
General of Police, Karnatka during the function.
39. 16.09.2017 Chandigarh Traffic Police is conducting special drive against
drunken driving in the city by organizing nakas using breath
analyzers on different locations near pubs, clubs, bars, restaurants
and hotels. For community participation, traffic marshals are also
present at these nakas.
On 15.9.2017, Traffic Police organized special nakas
in the city at various places to check drunken driving and booked
116 offenders for this violation and their vehicles were also
impounded. Challan documents have been forwarded to District
Court for further legal proceedings. It is pertinent to mention that
during this year upto 15.9.2017, 4150 offenders have been booked
for the violation of drunken driving.
As per Section 185 of Motor Vehicle Act 1988, he/she
shall be punishable for the first offence with imprisonment for a term
which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to
two thousand rupees, or with both.
Further as per Sector 20 (2) of Motor Vehicle Act
1988, his/her driving license shall be disqualified for a period of not
less than six months.
As per Section 22(2) of Motor Vehicle Act 1988, if a
person, having been previously convicted of an offence punishable
under section 185 is again convicted of an offence punishable
under that section, the Court, making such subsequent conviction,
shall, by order, cancel the driving licence held by such person”.
Chandigarh Traffic Police appeals to the general
public to avoid driving in drunken condition and also ensure that a
sober person drives in such situation or alternate means of transport
are engaged.

41. 26.09.2017 Road Safety Exhibition/Workshop at Delhi Public School, Sector 40
Today i.e. 26.9.2017, Chandigarh Traffic Police has organized Road
Safety Exhibition/Workshop at Delhi Public School, Sector 40,
Chandigarh. In this road safety awareness programme Sh.
Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP/Traffic & Security, Wing Comd. C.S.
Grewal, Chief Traffic Marshal and other traffic marshals i.e. Ms. Uma
Mahajan, Mr. Inderpal Sandhu, Mr. P.K. Aggarwal, Ms. Rita Sood
and CTP staff participated.
There were around 400 students from standards XI & XII who were
apprised of the Rules & Regulations pertaining to Driving Licence,
use of Helmet and seat belt, Road Signs and Drunken Driving. More
emphasis is being laid on educating students of senior classes as
they are going to be road users very soon.
A quiz contest was held at the end where students who answered
all the questions correctly were presented with Mementos by the
SSP/Traffic & Security. Mrs. Reema Dewan, Principal thanked the
entire Team with high praise for their excellent Presentation. HC
Bhupinder Singh also presented a song on road safety, which was
applauded by all.
More than 1000 road safety awareness pamphlets/literatures and
100 CDs on road safety were also distributed to the students and
staff.
Chandigarh Traffic Police is regularly conducting such road safely
awareness programmes in different schools/colleges to create
traffic awareness amongst the students, who are the future road
users.

Mr. R. L. Gupta and Mr. Rajiv Sharma, Traffic Marshals and CTP staff
participated.
There were around 200 students from standards X, XI & XII who
were apprised of the Rules & Regulations pertaining to Driving Licence,
use of Helmet and seat belt, Road Signs and Drunken Driving. More

43. 03.11.2017 Police Week: Painting Competition on road safety
Chandigarh Police is celebrating 8th Police Week from 1st to 7th
November, 2017. During this week, today i.e. 03.11.2017, a painting
competition on road safety was organized by Chandigarh Traffic Police
in Children Traffic Park, Sector-23, Chandigarh. In this competition,
230 students participated from 25 various Govt. and Private schools
of City Beautiful.
Out of these students, Vaibhav of 9th standard of Moti Ram
Arya School, Sector-27, Chandigarh got 1st position, Nitika of 9th
standard of Shishu Niketan Sr. Sec. School, Sector-22, Chandigarh
got 2nd position and Ashish Thakur of 10th Standard of Govt. Model
Sr. Sec. School, Sector-22, Chandigarh got 3rd position in senior wing.
Whereas in the junior wing, Sia Chawla of 8th standard of
Sacred Heart School, Sector-26, Chandigarh got 1st position, Kinjal
Chandel of 8th standard of Mount Carmel School, Sector-47,
Chandigarh got 2nd position and Manushri Dogra of 8th standard of
K.B.D.A.V. Sr. Sec. School, Sector-7, Chandigarh got 3rd position.
In this event, Smt. Simarpreet Luthra, President, Chandigarh
Police Family Welfare Society was the chief guest and Sh. Shashank
Anand, SSP/Traffic & Sec. alongwith his wife Smt. Vasundhra Dalal
Anand, Sh. R.K.Ambasta, DSP-South, R & D (Traffic), Sh. Yashpal
Vinayak, DSP-Admn & East (Traffic), teachers of 25 various Govt. &
Private schools of Chandigarh and Traffic Marshals were also present.
During this competition, various cultural programs were also
held.
44. 05.11.2017 Police Week: Traffic Awareness Programme
During 8th Police Week on 05.11.2017, a Road Safety cum Cultural
Program was organized by Chandigarh Traffic Police at Elante Mall.
Ind. Area-I, Chandigarh in which general public was aware regarding
road safety.
In this event, Sh. Mahabir Singh, Member Secretary, State Legal
Service Authority was the chief guest. During this event, various
cultural programs were also held. 45. 14.12.2017
Drive against Traffic Violation by Auto-Rickshaw
Chandigarh Traffic Police is conducting special drives against auto
rickshaws, E-Rickshaws, cabs plying without permit and/or
registration in the city.
On 14.12.2017, Chandigarh Traffic Police seized 26 auto rickshaws
which were plying without documents and 113 challans for various
violations of traffic rules by auto-rickshaws. Challan documents have
been forwarded to concerned Court for further legal proceedings.
It is pertinent to mention here that during this year upto 14.12.2017,
18471 auto rickshaw drivers have been challaned and 1599 auto
rickshaws have been impounded for various violations in the city. This
drive will continue.
46. 16.12.2017
Drive against Drunken Driving in the city
Chandigarh Traffic Police is conducting special drive against drunken
driving in the city by organizing nakas using breath analyzers on
different locations near pubs, clubs, bars, restaurants and hotels. For
community participation, traffic marshals are also present at these
nakas.
On 16.12.2017, Traffic Police organized special nakas in the city
at various places to check drunken driving and booked 66
offenders for this violation and their vehicles were also impounded.
Challan documents have been forwarded to District Court for further
legal proceedings.
It is pertinent to mention that during this year upto
16.12.2017, 5986 offenders have been booked for the violation of
drunken driving whereas the comparative figure for 2016 was 4677.
Besides above, 142 persons were issued challan for wrong
parking and 118 for overspeeding. The DLs of overspeeding driver‟s
will be suspended for 3 months.
As per Section 185 of Motor Vehicle Act 1988, he/she shall be
punishable for the first offence with imprisonment for a term which
may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to two
thousand rupees, or with both.
Further as per Sector 20 (2) of Motor Vehicle Act 1988,
his/her driving license shall be disqualified for a period of not less
than six months.
As per Section 22(2) of Motor Vehicle Act 1988, if a person,
having been previously convicted of an offence punishable under
section 185 is again convicted of an offence punishable under that
section, the Court, making such subsequent conviction, shall, by order,

Launching of recently procured 104 body worm cameras in
Chandigarh Traffic Police
Chandigarh Police has recently procured 104 Body Worn Cameras in
order to enhance integrity and transparency in the functioning of
Chandigarh Traffic Police. These cameras shall be used to record
interactions of traffic police officials with the general public and
would also contribute to effective enforcement of traffic rules and
regulations.
On 22.12.2017, Sh. Tajender Singh Luthra, IPS,
W/DGP/Chandigarh has launched Body Worn Cameras for Chandigarh
Traffic Police at Police Headquarters, Sector 9, Chandigarh. On this
occasion, Body Worn Cameras were distributed to the Traffic Police
Challaning Officers by W/DGP/Chandigarh. Dr. O.P. Mishra, IPS,
DIG/Chandigarh, Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP/Traffic & Security,
Mrs. Nilambari Jagadale, IPS, SSP/Chandigarh,

24.12.2017, 6292 offenders have been booked for the violation of
drunken driving.

49. 25.12.2017 Road Safety Awareness Programmes by Chandigarh Traffic Police
Today i.e. 25.12.2017, Chandigarh Traffic Police organized Road
Safety Awareness Programmes at different venues i.e. Sukhna Lake,
Plaza Sector-17, in front of Church Sector-19 and Elante Mall,
Chandigarh with the assistance of NSS Students. More than 2000
road safety awareness pamphlets/literatures educating wear Helmet
while Riding Two Wheeler, Not to Use Mobile while Driving, Don‟t
Drunk & Drive, Wear Seat Belt etc. on road safety were
distributed. The sweets were also distributed to the general public
through the participant NSS Students who were in costumes of Santa
Clause in view of the Christmas Day . In addition to above programme
a quiz was also organised at above venues for females and questions on
road safety were asked to them regarding road safety. The helmets
were awarded to winner who answered to the questions correctly as a
compliment from Chandigarh Traffic Police. Total 20 helmets were
presented to the females at different venues. The main motive to
distribute the helmets amongst the females was to encourage them to
wear helmet, so that the accident fatalities due to head injuries may
be reduced in the City Beautiful.

World Day of Remembrance for Road Accident Victims
Today i.e. 19.11.2017 World Day of Remembrance for Road Accident
Victims was observed by Chandigarh Traffic Police at Children Traffic
Park sector 23, Chandigarh in collaboration with Citizen Awareness
Group, Chandigarh and Consumer Voice. More than 250 students of
various colleges of city beautiful participated. 2 minutes silence was
observed followed by Candle March in Children Traffic Park.
Sh. Rajiv Ambasta DSP/Traffic/South, Road Safety, R&D was the
chief guest who aware the students about road safety in his address,
specially the girls student was asked to wear helmet while driving two
wheeler. DSP Hardit Singh, Surender Verma Chairman Citizen
Awareness Group, Chandigarh and Sh. Amarjeet Singh, Legal Advisor

Action against drunken driving on the eve of New Year-2018
Chandigarh Traffic Police is regularly conducting special drives against
drunken driving in the city. On the eve of New Year, 2018, Chandigarh
Traffic Police booked 203 persons for the violation of Drunken Driving
in the city. Further, during 2017, 6663 challans have been issued for
the violation of drunken driving.
As per Section 185 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988,
offender of drunken driving shall be punishable for the first offence
with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with
fine which may extend to two thousand rupees, or with both.
Further, as per Section 20 (2) of MV Act, 1988,
drunken driving offender‟s driving license shall be disqualified for
period of not less than six months.
As per Section 22(2) of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, if a
person, having been previously convicted of an offence punishable
under Section 185 is again convicted of an offence punishable under
that section, the Court, making such subsequent conviction shall, by
order, cancel the Driving Licence held by such person.
52. 17.01.2018 Special drive against Drunken Driving & other traffic violations
Chandigarh Traffic Police is regularly conducting special drives
against drunken driving in the city. On 17.01.2018, Chandigarh
Traffic Police booked 88 persons for the violation of Drunken Driving
in the city. Further, during this year upto 17.01.2018, 471 challans
have been issued for the violation of drunken driving.
As per Section 185 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, offender of
drunken driving shall be punishable for the first offence with
imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with
fine which may extend to two thousand rupees, or with both.
Further, as per Section 20 (2) of MV Act, 1988, drunken
driving offender‟s driving license shall be disqualified for period of
not less than six months.
As per Section 22(2) of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, if a person,
having been previously convicted of an offence punishable under
Section 185 is again convicted of an offence punishable under that
section, the Court, making such subsequent conviction shall, by
order, cancel the Driving Licence held by such person.
Further, Chandigarh Traffic Police appeals to the general public not
to drink and drive. Strict action shall be continued to be taken
against such violations in the future.
53. 19.01.2018 Special drive against Drunken Driving & Overspeeding
Chandigarh Traffic Police is regularly conducting special
drives against drunken driving and overspeeding in the city. During
this weekend (19-21 January), Chandigarh Traffic Police booked 134
persons for the violation of Drunken Driving and 430 persons for the
violation of overspeeding in the city. Further, during this year upto
21.1.2018, 605 challans have been issued for the violation of
drunken driving and 891 challans have been issued for the violation
of overspeeding in the city.
As per Section 185 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988,
offender of drunken driving shall be punishable for the first offence
with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or
with fine which may extend to two thousand rupees, or with both.
Further, as per Section 20 (2) of MV Act, 1988,
drunken driving offender‟s driving license shall be disqualified for
period of not less than six months.
As per Section 22(2) of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, if a
person, having been previously convicted of an offence punishable
under Section 185 is again convicted of an offence punishable
under that section, the Court, making such subsequent conviction
shall, by order, cancel the Driving Licence held by such person.
As per Section 19 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, the
overspeeding offender‟s driving license shall be disqualified for
period of not less than three months.
For the information of general public, the maximum
speed limit for light motor vehicles in U.T. Chandigarh is 60 kilometers
per hour, whereas, the maximum speed limit for two wheelers in U.T.
Chandigarh is 45 kilometers per hour.
Chandigarh Traffic Police appeals to the general public not to drink
and drive and also follow speed limits in the city. Strict action shall
be continued to be taken against such violations in the future.
54. 12.02.2018 Today i.e. 12.02.2018, the staff of Chandigarh Traffic Police
alongwith RJ Meenakshi of 94.3 My FM, organized Road Safety
Awareness campaigns regarding „No Honking‟. These campaigns
are organized in front of main gate of D.A.V.College, Sector-10,
Chandigarh and near Hotel Mountview, Sector-10, Chandigarh to
sensitized the students and general public. About 150 stickers of „No
Honking‟ were pasted on the steering of passerby vehicles by the
Chandigarh Traffic Police. These types of campaigns are being
organized by Chandigarh Traffic Police from the beginning of this
year to make the City Beautiful Honk Free.

Chandigarh Honk Free”. The motive of this campaign is “To make
Chandigarh, the City Beautiful not just for eyes but for ears as well”.

56. 14.02.2018 On 14.2.2018, Chandigarh Traffic Police has conducted a
special drive against various traffic offences in the city in the
morning hours from 10.00 AM to 1.00 PM. During this drive,
total 72 offenders were booked for various traffic violations
including 27 for the violation of overspeeding and 10 for the
violation of Silencer non functional/Bullet Patakha.
Further, as a part of “Make Chandigarh Honk Free”, special
campaigns were organized at Punjab University, Sector 14,
Transport Area, Sector 26, ISBT Sector 43, near District Court
Sector 43 and Sector 32, Chandigarh, in which, 605 Nos. of “I
Will Not Honk” Stickers were distributed to the general public.

57. 16.02.2018 Chandigarh Traffic Police is regularly conducting special drives
against drunken driving in the city. On 16.02.2018, Chandigarh
Traffic Police booked 69 persons for the violation of Drunken Driving
in the city. Further, during this year upto 16.02.2018, 1104 challans
have been issued for the violation of drunken driving.

of PGI main gate, Axis Bank Sector 32, Rock Garden, Poultry Farm
Chowk and Transport Light Point, in which, 515 Nos. of “I Will Not
Honk” Stickers were distributed to the general public.

58. 06.02.2018 No Honking Campaign‟ and Road Safety Awareness Program

Education, PGI, where the staff of Children Traffic Park sensitize the
nursing students about road safety rules and aware them about the
death on road due to accident. More stress was given to girls to

also distributed among the students in the institute. The staff and
students were also sensitize about the no honking in the city. Stickers

67. 22.02.2018 Special Drive against wrong parking
To curb the menace of wrong parking in the city, Chandigarh Traffic
Police is conducting special drives against wrong parking. During this
special drive, affixing of wheel clamps on wrongly parking vehicles,
towing of vehicles using hydraulic recovery vans and challaning of such
vehicles has been intensified.
During this year upto 22.2.2018, Chandigarh Traffic
Police has issued 3545 challans for the violation of wrong parking in
the city. It is pertinent to mention that during the previous year upto
22.2.2018, 1478 offenders were booked for the violation of wrong
parking.
Further, Chandigarh Traffic Police appeals to the
general public to co-operate with the police during Rose Festival-
2018 and ensure:-
1. That vehicles are efficiently parked only in the designated
parking lots not consuming more space than necessary.
2. Car pooling should be done, whenever and wherever possible.
3. People are advised not to park their vehicles in „No Parking‟
Zones/Roads; otherwise, such vehicles shall be towed
away/clamped.
4. In case vehicle is towed away/clamped, please contact Traffic
Helpline No. 1073.
68. 23.02.2018 Special drives against drunken driving
Chandigarh Traffic Police is regularly conducting special drives against
drunken driving in the city. On the night of 21.02.2018, Chandigarh
Traffic Police booked 68 persons for the violation of Drunken Driving
in the city.
As per Section 185 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, offender of
drunken driving shall be punishable for the first offence with
imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine
which may extend to two thousand rupees, or with both. Further, as
per Section 20 (2) of MV Act, 1988, drunken driving offender‟s driving

Further, Chandigarh Traffic Police appeals to the general
public to co-operate with the police, also requests to not to drink and
drive. Further, strict action shall be continued to be taken against
above said violations as per law.
69. 02.03.2018 Chandigarh Traffic Police Special arrangements & Special drive
against drunken driving on the eve of Holi Festival
On the eve of Holi Festival, Chandigarh Traffic Police conducted
special drive against drunken driving, overspeeding, without helmets,
triple riding, modified silencer/bullet patakha and other traffic
violations in the city.
During this drive, 1017 violators have been challaned for various
traffic offences. The description of the same is as under:-

It is pertinent to mention that during this year upto 2.3.2018, 1394
offenders have been booked for the violation of drunken driving.
Further, Chandigarh Traffic Police also deployed traffic police
personnel with video recorder in plain clothes at 20 inner unmanned
locations. Approx. 400 TVIS will be issued based on the video
recording done at 20 points. Apart from this, approx. 150 TVIS will
be issued based on CCTV footage and pictures of violator sent by
citizens on social media accounts of Chandigarh Traffic Police.
Further, drone cameras were also used to monitor movement of
traffic and traffic rules violators during this drive.
On the eve of Holi during this special checking, more than 170 cases
for suspension on driving license will be shortly recommended by
Chandigarh Traffic police. Further, during this year upto 2.3.2018,
more than 1216 cases for suspension on driving license have been
recommended by Chandigarh Traffic police.
70. 07.03.2018 Drive against modified silencers
Modified silencers in motorcycles, especially Bullet bikes are being
used for emitting cracker-sound, which not only causes noise pollution
but also terrifies the general public, especially senior citizens and
young children.
Chandigarh Traffic Police is conducting special awareness drives at
various motor markets in the city, in which mechanics and spare parts
shop owners of motorcycles are being sensitized about the harmful
effects of modified silencers and they are also being warned not to
modify silencers, otherwise strict action shall be taken as per law
(photos annexed).
Further, Chandigarh Traffic Police is conducting special drive against
vehicles with Modified Silencer in the city on a daily basis. During
this drive, many motorcycles with modified silencers have been
impounded by Chandigarh Traffic Police and owners of such vehicles
have been motivated to replace the modified silencers (photos
annexed).
During this year upto 4.3.2018, 690 violators have been challaned for
the violation of silencer non-functional/creating undue noise/Playing
music at high pitch. Further, 71 motorcycles have been impounded for
such violation, out of which modified silencers of 34 motorcycles have
been replaced at Traffic Lines, Sector 29, Chandigarh.
Chandigarh Traffic police appeals to the general public that
modification of silencers of motorcycles is a violation. If anyone is
found riding a motorcycle with modified silencer, please share his/her
information on Chandigarh Traffic Police whatsapp No. 9779580985.
Strict action shall be taken against such vehicles which can also be
seized by the Police.
71. 08.03.2018 Road Safety Awareness campaigns on the occasion of Women‟s Day
On the occasion of Women‟s Day, the staff of Chandigarh Traffic
Police, organized Road Safety Awareness campaigns at two different
places i.e. Govt. College of Commerce & Business, Sector-50,
Chandigarh in the morning and at Plaza, Sector-17 in the evening. In
the morning event, Sh. Rajeev Kumar Ambasta, DSP/Traffic–South,
Insp. Sita Devi, I/C–CTP and Principal as well as 10
Professors/Lecturers and about 100 students of the College were
present. During this event, 450 literature on road safety was
distributed amongst the professors/lecturers and students of the
College. Apart from this, 50 stickers under the title “Helmet Saves
Her Head Too” were distributed to the female students as well as 5
helmets were also presented to 5 female students, to encourage the
use of helmet while riding two-wheeler by female.
In the evening event at Plaza, Sector-17, about 65 persons
participated. Several questions were asked on road signs to females
and who replied correctly, helmet was presented to her. During this
event, 5 helmets were presented to different 5 females to encourage
them to wear helmet while riding two-wheeler. Apart from this, 50
stickers under the title “Helmet Saves Her Head Too” were also
distributed amongst the females.
72. 09.03.2018 No Honking Campaign (Road Safety)
Chandigarh Traffic Police is organizing the special campaigns - “Make
Chandigarh Honk Free”. Today, this special campaign on „No Honking‟
was inaugurated by Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP Security & Traffic,
at HDFC Regional Head Office, Plot No. 28, Ph-1, Ind. Area,
Chandigarh. Sh. Vineet Arora, Regional Head - North, HDFC Bank
Limited, along with his staff and officers from Chandigarh Police were
also present on this occasion.
Sh. Shashank Anad, IPS, SSP Sec & Traffic in his speech said “we will
try to make the City Beautiful Chandigarh a first Honk free city of
India. Chandigarh Police is running this drive and under 70 days of this
drive we are experiencing that we are also doing character building of
people on roads which is educating people to be patient, be polite, be a
good citizen while driving. We are getting good support from Radio, TV
& Print Media also. Through the year 2018, we will significantly focus
on „No Honking‟ campaign which will also cover following road safety
aspects:

Right of Way on round abouts

said “we are delighted to partner with Chandigarh Police in the
endeavor to make Chandigarh India‟s first „honk free‟ city. The
incessant honking on the roads is not just an inconvenience but also a
major cause of noise pollution. High decibel levels are also detrimental
to the overall health of the common public. As a socially responsible
corporate, we feel that people need to make aware on the merits of
not honking not just as a courtesy to the fellow drivers but also
towards the larger well being of the society. HDFC bank will work with
Chandigarh Police to promote this message across the city. We wish
this initiative a grand success”.
Chandigarh Police is running this drive especially at ISBT‟s,
Auto Stand, Bus Stop, Roundabouts and other prominent places to
educate the people. Chandigarh Police is sensitizing general public
about maintaining Silence Zones within 100 meter radius of Hospitals,
Courts, Schools & Old Age Home‟s. At the end of year 2018
Chandigarh Police will make a survey through independent agency
about the awareness of general public in this concern. Enforcement
part of this drive will be started later. Letter has been also written to
Chandigarh Noise Pollution Board/Committee for their support and
guidance. Night vision cameras will be installed through which we will
check on night violation.

73. 14.03.2018 No Honking Campaign
As part of “Make Chandigarh Honk Free” campaign, Chandigarh Traffic
Police has conducted special drives at South End Chowk, Punjab &
Haryana High Court, Faida Barrier, New Labour Chowk and in front of
HDFC Bank Sector 9, in which, more than 400 Nos. of “I Will Not
Honk” Stickers were distributed to the general public.

74. 06.04.2018 Special drives against drunken driving
Chandigarh Traffic Police is regularly conducting special drives
against drunken driving in the city. On 06.04.2018, Chandigarh Traffic
Police booked 73 persons for the violation of Drunken Driving in the
city. Further, during this year upto 06.04.2018, 2003 challans have
been issued for the violation of drunken driving.
As per Section 185 of Motor Vehicle Act 1988, he/she
shall be punishable for the first offence with imprisonment for a term
which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to two
thousand rupees, or with both.
Further as per Section 20 (2) of Motor Vehicle Act
1988, his/her driving license shall be disqualified for a period of not
less than six months.
As per Section 22(2) of Motor Vehicle Act 1988, if a
person, having been previously convicted of an offence punishable
under section 185 is again convicted of an offence punishable under
that section, the Court, making such subsequent conviction, shall, by

Chandigarh Traffic Police appeals to the general public
to avoid driving in drunken condition and also ensure that a sober
person drives in such situation or alternate means of transport are
engaged.

As part of the 29th National Road Safety week, on 22.4.2018,
Chandigarh Traffic Police has organized Walkathon, Run and Cycle
Rally titled “Make Chandigarh Honk Free” in the city. Approx. 1500
students of GMSSS Sector 20-D, 19, 16, 38 West, AKSIPS, sector
41, St. Stephen, Sector 45, Ankur Sector 14, Bhawan Vidyala, PG
College Sector 46, Chandigarh University, Chandigarh Cycling Club and
Route Management by Weekend Runner Chandigarh participated in
this event. Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP/Traffic & Security was
chief guest and Sh. Veeneet Arora, HDFC was guest of honour of this
function. Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP/Traffic & Security, Sh.
Veeneet Arora, HDFC and Sh. Rajeev Kumar Ambasta, DSP-Traffic
(South and R & D) Flagged-off the Walkathon, Run and Cycle Rally. All
DSPs Traffic, Traffic Inspectors, Traffic Marshals and other police
officials also participated during this event. During this programme,
Nukkad Natak on Road Safety was performed by Mask Theatre Group,
Music Show by Virsa Musical Group, Gatka by the students of Khalsa
College, Chandigarh and Quiz competition on Road Safety was held by
Traffic Wing. Certificates and prizes were distributed to the
participants and winners.
Besides above, a Traffic Marshal Enrollment Camp was
organized at Traffic Auditorium, Traffic & Security Line, Sector-29,
Chandigarh on 22.04.2018 at 11.00AM. During the camp 20 application
forms were received from the volunteer citizens to enroll as Traffic
Marshal. The persons of age above 45 years could apply to enrolled
themselves as a Traffic Marshal in this camp.
76. 23.04.2018 Declamation Contest for school students as part of Road Safety
Week – 2018
On 23.04.2018, Chandigarh Traffic Police organized a
Declamation Contest for school students as part of Road Safety Week
– 2018. Dr. O.P.Mishra, DIGP/UT, Chandigarh was present as Chief
Guest at the contest. Three Judges namely Sh. Harman Sidhu, NGO
Arrive Safe, Mrs. Navita Singh, Rtd. Judge Punjab & Haryana High
Court and Sh. Kishie Singh, Renowned Journalist & Motorist were
appointed for the contest. Approximately 400-500 students from
various Govt & private schools participated in the contest. Result of
the declamation contest declared by the judges is as follows:
1st position - Vaideli - AKIPS Sector-41
2nd position - Harnoor Gill- Carmel Convent School, Sector-9
3rd position - Aparjita - Bhawan Vidayalaya, Sector-

Besides this traffic awareness lectures and distribution of
road safety pamphlets conducted in various schools and colleges. Key
rings and stickers distributed to good drivers, not to drink and drive
awareness conducted at different traffic points. Also a skit on road
safety played at Plaza, Sector-17 as part of Road Safety Week -2018.
77. 24.04.2018 Divya Drishti Cameras and Towed Vehicle App launched by HE
Governor of Punjab-cum- Administrator, UT, Chandigarh during
Road Safety Week-2018
Today i.e on 24.04.2018 at 10:30 AM, His Excellency Sh. V.P.
Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab -cum- Administrator, UT,
Chandigarh, launched Towed Vehicle App and Divya Drishti Cameras
during a road safety programme organized by Chandigarh Traffic
Police as part of Road Safety Week-2018 at Government College for
Girls, Sector-42, Chandigarh. Sh. Anurag Aggarwal, IAS, Home
Secretary, UT, Chandigarh and Sh. Tajender Singh Luthra, IPS,
DGP/UT along with other senior officers of Police Department were
present on this occasion. Divya Drishti Camera project is for live
supervision of special checking undertaken by personnel of traffic
police officials using modern CCTV and mobile technology. The Towed
Vehicle search App is for reducing inconvenience caused to citizens
whose vehicles have been towed away by Chandigarh Traffic Police and
to facilitate the release of such vehicles as per law.
During the function Hon‟ble Governor also released Road
Accident Analysis Book -2018 which is a very informative booklet on
analyses of fatal and non-fatal accidents in the city in the year 2017.
On this occasion, Nursing students from PGI performed a skit
on “Road Safety” and a song on road safety was also sung by HC
Bhupinder Singh.
78. 25.04.2018 Painting Competition and Face Painting Competition on Road Safety
During 29th Road Safety Week-2018, on 25.04.2018, a painting
competition and face painting competition on road safety was
organized by Chandigarh Traffic Police in Multipurpose Hall, Police
Lines, Sector-26, Chandigarh. In this competition, 214 students
participated from 22 various Govt. and Private schools of City
Beautiful. Competition was held in junior wing and senior wing.
Out of these students, Sai Vibhuti Chauhan of Carmel Convent
School, Sec-9, Chandigarh got 1st position, Kritika Patyal of Moti Ram
Arya School, Sec-27, Chandigarh got 2nd position and Jaspreet Kaur of
Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sec-23, Chandigarh got 3rd position in
senior wing.
Whereas in the junior wing, Gauri Sharma of Moti Ram Arya
School, Sec-27, Chandigarh got 1st position, Swati of Govt. Model Sr.
Sec. School, Sec-39-C, Chandigarh got 2nd position and Pooja Kumari
of Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector-39-C, Chandigarh got 3rd
position.
In the face painting competition, Aujasvir of Carmel Convent
School, Sec-9, Chd got 1st position, Aprajita of Bhavan Vidyalya, Sec-
27, Chd got 2nd position and Bhavna of S.D.Public School, Sec-32,
Chandigarh got 3rd position.
In this event, Smt. Vasundhra Dalal Anand W/o Sh. Shashank
Anand, SSP/Traffic & Sec. was the chief guest and Sh. R.K.Ambasta,
DSP-South, R & D (Traffic), Sh. Yashpal Vinayak, DSP-Admn & East
(Traffic), Inspector of Traffic Wing, teachers of 22 various Govt. &
Private schools of Chandigarh and Traffic Marshals were also present.
All the winners were awarded with trophies.
During this competition, cultural program was also held.
79. 26.04.2018 Rally by Female Two Wheeler Riders
On 26.04.2018, a Rally of around 300 Female Two Wheeler Riders was
organized by Chandigarh Traffic Police, which was flagged off from
P.G. Govt. College for Girls, Sector-42, Chandigarh to UIET, Sector
25, Chandigarh (about 3 km journey) by the Chief Guest Hon‟ble Smt.
Alka Singh. Around 200 helmets were distributed to the Female Two
Wheeler Riders, who participated in this Rally.
Before the flag-off, a function on Road Safety was organized
in the auditorium of P.G. Govt. College for Girls, Sector-42,
Chandigarh. The function began with Ganesh Stuti performed by
college students and was followed by a Skit on Road Safety by Traffic
Marshals, Presentation on Importance of wearing protective head gear
while riding a two wheeler given by Dr. Guneet Singh, Road Safety
Specialist and Gidha dance performance by Women Constables of
Chandigarh Police.

80. 28.04.2018 Blood Donation Camp & free Health Checkup Camp
As part of the 29th National Road Safety Week-2018, on 28.4.2018,
Chandigarh Traffic Police in association with social organizations has
organized Blood Donation Camp & free Health Checkup Camp for
drivers of CTU, Haryana Roadways, Punjab Roadways, PEPSU, Auto
Rickshaws, Ola, Uber, Taxi Associations and all other drivers and
Police officials at Multi-Purpose Hall, Police Line, Sector 26,
Chandigarh from 9.00 AM to 2.00 PM. Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS,
SSP/Traffic and Security was present along with DSPs and Inspectors
during the occasion.
In this Free Medical Health Check-up Camp, the facilities of
free consultation and test were provided to the visitors. The test
includes PFT, Smoking Test, Dental Checkup, Cholesterol test, Sugar
test, Bone Checkup, Mammography, ECG and Eye test and which were
done free of cost.
During blood donation camp 112 persons have donated blood
and all Blood Donors were decorated with Commendation Certificates
by Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP/Traffic and Security. Besides this,
Charity coupon for free petrol/diesel of rupees 100 were given to the
Blood Donors by Mann Filling Station, Sector 49, Chandigarh (Indian
Oil).
81. 28.04.2018 Lecture & Programme on road safety
During 29th Road Safety Week-2018, on 29.04.2018, a function
on Road Safety was held in Community Centre, Ram Darbar Colony,
Chandigarh in association with State Legal Services Authority,
Chandigarh. About 1500 persons witnessed the function. Insp. Sita
Devi, I/C–CTP and CTP Staff delivered lectures on road safety and
pamphlets/literature on road safety were also distributed. A song on
Road Safety was performed by HC Bhupinder Singh A Nukkad Natak
was also performed by Mask Threatre Group on Road Safety. Sh. V.K.
Kapoor, DGP-Haryana (now retd.) was the chief guest of the function.
Sh. Mahabir Singh, Hon‟ble Judge of State Legal Services Authority,
Chandigarh, Insp. Gurjeet Kaur, SHO, PS-31 and Ms. Mohinder Kour
Kataria, Traffic Marshal were also present.
A function on Road Safety was organized in Elante Mall, Indl.
Area, Phase-1, Chandigarh, in association with NDTV News Channel.
Smt. Kirron Kher, MP Chandigarh was the chief guest of the function.
Insp. Sita Devi, I/C–CTP alongwith Staff distributed pamphlets and
literature on road safety to the general public.
Another function was organized in Transport Nagar, Sector-
26, Chandigarh on Road Safety in association with State Aids Control
Society, Chandigarh. The Road Safety Awareness Staff of CTP
delivered lecture on Road Safety to 60 truck drivers/conductors on
Road Safety and also distributed 250 Nos. pamphlets and literature
on road safety to them.
82. 29.04.2018 During 29th Road Safety Week-2018, Chandigarh Traffic Police
organized No Honking Campaigns at different intersections of the
City to make Chandigarh Honk Free. In this regard, today on
29.04.2018, a Rally on No Honking was organized by Traffic Police, in
which 35 Royal Enfield Motorcycles and 30 Ola Cabs participated. The
Rally was flagged off from Rock Garden and was finished at Transport
Light Point. The Rally was flagged off by Sh. Shashank Anand, SSP–
Security & Traffic, UT Chandigarh at 08:00 AM. 200 stickers under
the title “I will not Honk” affixed at the Ola Cabs & Royal Enfield
Motor-Bikes and on the vehicles of general public. Sh. Shashank
Anand, SSP–Security & Traffic also presented Momentos to the
Representatives of Ola Cabs and Royal Enfield Motor-Bikes.
During Flagging off the Rally, Sh. Rajeev Ambasta,
DSP-Traffic (South, R & D), Sh. Yashpal Vinayak, DSP-Traffic (Admn.
& East), Sh. S.P.S.Sondhi, DSP-Traffic (Central), Sh. Dilsher Singh,

83. 30.04.2018 Special Campaign to follow Traffic Rules
During 29th Road Safety Week-2018, on 30.04.2018, in the morning at
09:00 AM, a special campaign to follow traffic rules was organized at
Press Light Point. Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP–Security & Traffic
lead this campaign. Sh. Rajeev Ambasta, DSP-Traffic (South, R & D),
Sh. Yashpal Vinayak, DSP-Traffic (Admn. & East), Sh. Dilsher Singh,
Inspector (Admn. & Central) Smt. Sita Devi, Inspector (I/C–CTP,
Social Media Cell & South-West) , Inspector Sukhdeep Singh (South-
East) alongwith other staff of Chandigarh Traffic Police and Traffic
Marshals actively participated in the campaign of Road Safety and to
follow Traffic Rules.
During campaign, 1200 stickers titled “I will not Honk”
were affixed on the steering of the public vehicles, making them
aware about the harm of blowing horn unnecessarily and to make the
City Honk Free. Apart from this, 200 stickers titled “Helmet saves
her head too” were distributed to the female two wheeler riders to
make them aware about how the helmet is useful for their safety and
security on the roads. 200 stickers titled “Good Driver” were also
affixed on the vehicles of those, who appeared to be driving their
vehicles by following traffic rules properly. Pamphlets regarding Road
Safety were also distributed amongst the public to make them aware
about traffic rules and regulations.
84. 30.04.2018 Presentation & distribution of key rings and stickers to good
drivers
On concluding day i.e. 30.04.2018 of 29th National Road Safety Week-
2018 under the theme “Sadak Suraksha–Jeevan Raksha”, Road Safety
Function was organized at Vivek High School, Sector-38, Chandigarh.
Sh. Shashank Anand, SSP–Security & Traffic, UT Chandigarh was the
chief guest. During function, Sh. Rajeev Ambasta, DSP (South) gave a
presentation regarding activities done by Chandigarh Traffic Police
during this 29th National Road Safety Week i.e. Cyclothon/Walkathon,
Female two wheeler rider Helmet Rally, Launch of Divya Drishti
Cameras, Towing Away Vehicle App. Blood Donation & Medical Camp,
Nukkad Natak on Road Safety, Road Safety Awareness Campaigns in 5
schools each day, distribution of key rings and stickers to good
drivers who were following traffic rules property, affixing of No
Honking Stickers and Stickers to female two wheeler riders that
Helmet Saves her head too. Traffic Marshal C.S. Grewal (Retd. Wing
Commander) also gave a presentation on Road Accident and Road
Safety. Sh. Shashank Anand, SSP–Security & Traffic gave four
challenges to the Vivek High School i.e. they should not allow anybody
around the school premises, to blow horn of their vehicles, whether
school bus or private vehicle, they should get fitted seat belts for
students in their school buses, they should motivate parents of
children as well as teachers about car pooling, they should deploy their
students for 15 minutes at the time of beginning and for 15 minutes at
the time of closing of school for traffic management outside the
school, in order to make the school one of the best school in the
Country.

Marshals were present in the function. About 800 school students
witnessed the function. 85. 06.05.2018 Special Drives against drunken driving and overspeeding in the city
Chandigarh Traffic Police is regularly conducting special drives against
drunken driving and overspeeding in the city. During this weekend (4-
6 May), Chandigarh Traffic Police booked 95 persons for the violation
of Drunken Driving and 229 persons for the violation of overspeeding.
Further, during this year upto 6.5.2018, 2745 challans have been
issued for the violation of drunken driving and 4584 challans have
been issued for the violation of overspeeding in the city.
As per Section 185 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, offender of
drunken driving shall be punishable for the first offence with
imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with
fine which may extend to two thousand rupees, or with both.
Further, as per Section 20 (2) of MV Act, 1988, drunken
driving offender‟s driving license shall be disqualified for period of
not less than six months.
As per Section 22(2) of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, if a person,
having been previously convicted of an offence punishable under
Section 185 is again convicted of an offence punishable under that
section, the Court, making such subsequent conviction shall, by order,
cancel the Driving Licence held by such person.
For the information of general public, the maximum speed limit
for light motor vehicles in U.T. Chandigarh is 60 kilometers per
hour, whereas, the maximum speed limit for two wheelers in U.T.
Chandigarh is 45 kilometers per hour.
Further, as per the directions of Hon‟ble Supreme Court
Committee on Road Safety, Chandigarh Traffic Police is recommending
the suspension of DL of violators of the following traffic violations
even for the first such violation :-
Over speeding
Use of Mobile Phone
Driving vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Jumping of Red Light
During this year 2018 upto 6.5.2018, driving licenses of 2265
such drivers have been recommended for suspension to concerned
licensing authorities.
86. 24.05.2018 Road Safety Summer Camp for school Children
In order to raise the level of road safety amongst school children,
Chandigarh Traffic Police is organizing a Road Safety Summer Camp,
free of cost, for the students of standards 7th to 12th at Children
Traffic Park, Sector 23, Chandigarh during the forthcoming summer
vacations.
During this Camp, different types of interesting road safety
awareness activities will be organized for school children. At the end
of the Camp, the participating students would be given certificate of
accomplishment by Chandigarh Traffic Police. The Camp will be
organized in the month of June, 2018 in four batches of 50 students
each from 10.00 AM to 1.00 PM each day for five days as given below:-
1. Batch-1 : : 04.6.2018 to 08.6.2018
2. Barch-2 : 11.6.2018 to 15.6.2018
3. Batch-3 : 18.6.2018 to 22.6.2018
4. Batch-4 : 25.6.2018 to 29.6.2018

87. 28.05.2018 Special drives against drunken driving and overspeeding
Chandigarh Traffic Police is regularly conducting special drives against
drunken driving and overspeeding in the city. During this weekend (25-
27 May), Chandigarh Traffic Police booked 149 persons for the
violation of Drunken Driving and 256 persons for the violation of
overspeeding. Further, during this year upto 28.5.2018, 3352
challans have been issued for the violation of drunken driving whereas
the comparative figure for 2017 for the same period was 1264.
Moreover, 6356 challans have been issued for the violation of
overspeeding in the city, whereas the comparative figure for 2017 for
the same period was 1203.
As per Section 185 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, offender of

88. 30.05.2018 Road Safety Camp for drivers/attendant of School Buses
In order to raise the level of road safety awareness amongst
the drivers/attendants of school buses, Chandigarh Traffic Police is
organizing a Road Safety Camp, free of cost, for the
drivers/attendants of school buses of schools of Chandigarh at
Children Traffic Park, Sector 23, Chandigarh.
During this Camp, training will be given in instructions with
regard to school buses issued by the Hon‟ble Punjab and Haryana High
Court and as per STRAPS Policy of U.T. Administration to the
drivers/attendants of school buses. The Camp will be organized on
2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd June, 2018 from 10.00 AM to 1.00 PM.

89. 05.06.2018 Special campaign regarding Vehicular Pollution and Noise Pollution
on the occasion of World Environment Day
On 5th June, 2018 on the occasion of World Environment Day,
Chandigarh Traffic Police organized a special campaign regarding
Vehicular Pollution and Noise Pollution at various traffic junctions i.e.
Tribune Chowk, Piccadily Chowk, Kisan Bhawan Chowk, Furniture
Market Chowk, Housing Board Chowk, Press Light Point, PGI Chowk,
Khuda Lahora Bridge, Cricket Stadium Chowk, Sectors-11/15 dividing
road and Sectors-32/46 dividing road. Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP–
Security & Traffic lead this campaign. Sh. Rajeev Ambasta, DSP-
Traffic (South, R & D), Smt. Sita Devi, Inspector (I/C–CTP, Social
Media Cell & South-West) alongwith SI Harpal Singh, SI Jagdev
Singh, SI Bani Singh, SI Jai Kishan and other officials of Chandigarh
Traffic Police and Traffic Marshals namely Sh. Gurnam Singh, Sh.
Ashok Manchanda and Ms. Sukhjeet Kaur actively participated in the
campaign.
During campaign, 2500 pamphlets titled “The Pain is Real” and
2500 pamphlets titled “Make City Pollution Free” were distributed
amongst the public, driving on road to make them aware about Noise
and Air Pollution. Apart from this, 4000 stickers titled “I will not
Honk” were affixed on the steering of the public vehicles, making
them aware about the harm of blowing horn unnecessarily and to make
the City Honk Free. Notices were also issued to 25 Nos. vehicle
owners to get check their vehicles checked regarding pollution.
Bulk SMSs titled “Let‟s not „Honk‟ today and celebrate –
“World Environment Day” – 5th June, 2018” were sent to the citizens
and message of No Honking was also flashed through local radio
stations i.e. 94.3 My FM, RED FM etc. to the Citizens of City
Beautiful. 90. 06.06.2018 Special Drive against rehri/rickshaw with unauthorized fitment of
engine
Chandigarh Traffic Police is conducting a special drive against
rehri/rickshaw with unauthorized fitment of engine in the city. During
this special drive from 30.5.2016 to 6.6.2018, 62 such illegal
rehri/rickshaw have been impounded by Chandigarh Traffic Police.
In view of the fact that such illegal vehicles can cause
accidents and being without registration number plates are almost
difficult to trace out and the fact that the persons driving these
illegal vehicles may not be possessing valid driving license and that
such illegal vehicles cause air and noise pollution, therefore,
Chandigarh Traffic Police is requesting the courts not to release such
illegal vehicles without dismantling of the illegally fitted engine so
that the same cannot ply again on the city roads. Further, strict
action shall be continued to be taken against such violations in the

Road Safety Summer Camps during the summer vacations for
School Children
For the 1st time, Chandigarh Traffic Police is organized Road
Safety Summer Camps during the summer vacations for school
children in Children Traffic Park, Sector-23, Chandigarh in four
batches. The motive behind organizing the summer camp is to
sensitize future drivers about road safety. 1st batch of summer camp
for school children was organized from 04.06.2018 to 08.06.2018. On
the first day of summer camp i.e. 04.06.2018, introductory session
about road safety was conducted and training about traffic rules was
given by traffic marshals. Activities like Be seen Be Safe, reflective
colour during night driving, Road Safety Games were conducted and
detailed information on road signs was also given.
On 2nd day i.e. 05.06.2018, tips on safe cycling were given to
the school children, a traffic drill was conducted by Traffic Cops as
well as they were explained about pedestrian crossing. A session on
road safety tips was taken by Traffic Marshal. A lecture on road

On 3rd day i.e. 06.06.2018, a Road sign Matching Game was
conducted for school children. They were taken to Traffic Lines, Sec-
29 and information was given about the function of CCTV Cameras and
Challaning Branch. A session about road safety was taken by Insp. Sita
Devi and Insp. Paramjit Sekhon at Traffic Lines, Sec-29, Chd. On
return at Children Traffic Park, guidance about first aid was given to
the school children by calling expert from Police Hospital, Sec-26,
Chandigarh.
On 4th day i.e. 07.06.2018, the school children were given
guidance about pedestrian lights and a traffic drill was conducted by
Traffic Cops. A road safety session was conducted by the Traffic
Marshalls. A session on safety riding theory was also conducted.
On concluding day i.e. 08.06.2018 of 1st batch of 51 school
children, a ceremony was conducted. A post test of the participant
children was conducted to know their feedback. Signatures were
obtained on the pledge that that they will follow traffic rules. Sh.

Smt. Rita Sood and Smt. Sukhjeet Kaur were also present during the
function. In the post test, school children who stood 1st, 2nd & 3rd
were given prizes. However, participation certificates and momentos
were distributed to all the participant students for their future
encouragement.
92. 13.06.2018 On 13.6.2018, an inter-state co-ordination meeting between traffic
police officers of Tri-city i.e. Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali was
organized by Chandigarh Traffic Police at Police Headquarters, Sector
9, Chandigarh with a view to enhance coordination between traffic
police units of Tri-city. The meeting was attended by Sh. Shashank
Anand, IPS, SSP/Traffic & Security, U.T. Chandigarh, Sh. Tarun
Rattan, SP/Traffic, Mohali, Sh. Munish Sehgal, ACP/Traffic Panchkula
and all Traffic DSPs and TIs of Chandigarh Traffic Police. In the
meeting, inter-alia the following traffic issues were discussed:-
Day-to-day communication between traffic police officials of
Tri-city.
Advisory/alerts regarding traffic congestion in Tri-city.
Co-ordination needed for movement of emergency vehicles i.e.
ambulances, fire brigades.
Plying of auto rickshaws without permit and registration in Tri-
city.
Action against bikes with modified silencers.
93. 15.06.2018 On 15.06.2018, 2st batch of Road Safety Summer camp-2018
concluded at Children Traffic Park, Sector-23, Chandigarh. To sensitize the
future drivers about road safety, Chandigarh Traffic Police is organizing Road
Safety Summer Camp for school students in four batches. 2nd batch of
summer camp was organized from 11.06.2018 to 15.06.2018. Total 45 students
of different schools participated in this batch. During the summer camp,
different activities like „Be seen Be Safe‟, reflective colour during night
driving, Road Safety Games were conducted and detailed information on road
signs was also given, tips on safe cycling were given to the school children. A
traffic drill was conducted by Traffic Cops as well as they were explained
about pedestrian crossing. Guidance about first aid was also given them by
medical staff of Police Hospital, Sec-26. The students were taken to Traffic
Lines, Sec-29 and information was given about the function of CCTV Cameras
and Challaning Branch.
Sh. SPS Sondhi, DSP-Traffic/Central was the chief guest. Smt. Sita
Devi, Inspector (I/C–CTP, Social Media Cell & South-West) and Traffic
Marshals Sh. Jagdish Diwan, Sh. R.L. Gupta, Sh. Paramjit Singh Chhabra, Smt.
Uma Mahajan and Social worker Sh. Satish Bhaskar were also present during
the function. The pledge was taken by participants that they will follow
traffic rules and the stress will be also given on their parents to follow
traffic rules. In the post test, school children who stood 1st, 2nd & 3rd were
given prizes. However, participation certificates and statue of traffic cop
magnates were distributed to all the participant students for their future
encouragement. 94. 29.06.2018 Road Safety Summer Camp-2018 fourth batch concluded
4th batch of Road Safety Summer Camp-2018 concluded at
Children Traffic Park, Sector-23, Chandigarh on 29.06.2018. To
sensitize the future drivers of City Beautiful about road
safety, Chandigarh Traffic Police organized Road Safety
Summer Camp for school children in four batches. 4th batch of
summer camp was organized from 25.06.2018 to 29.06.2018. 40
students of different schools participated in this batch. In all,
200 children of different schools took part in Road Safety
Summer Camp at CTP, Sector-23, Chandigarh. During the Road
Safety Summer Camp, plethora of activities were conducted to
imbibe habit to follow traffic rules in the young generation. The
activities held during Road Safety Summer Camp includes „Be
seen Be Safe‟, wearing of reflective color garments during night
driving, Road Safety Puzzle Games. Information on road signs,
tips on safe cycling, a traffic drill was conducted by Traffic
Cops as well as they were explained about pedestrian crossing,
guidance about first aid how to lift injured person during road
accident was also given them by medical staff of Police
Hospital, Sec-26. Simulating Goggles activity was also held to
experience that how anybody feels while drunk and driving the
vehicle. The students also visited the Challaning Branch, Traffic
Lines, Sec-29 and explained how to pay the fine of Traffic
Violation Challan as well as they also visited to CCTV Cameras
Control room and the functioning of CCTV Cameras were
explained. A session on safety riding theory was also conducted. On the concluding day of 4th batch of Road Safety
Summer Camp-2018, Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP–Security &
Traffic was the chief guest, who addressed the participants
about Road Safety and motivated the children to follow traffic
rules their whole life. A post test of the participant children
was conducted to know their feedback and prizes were also
given to the children who stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Participation
certificates and statue of traffic cop magnets were distributed
to all the participant students for their future encouragement.
On this occasion, Smt. Sita Devi, Inspector (I/C–CTP & Social
Media Cell) and Traffic Marshals Sh. Gurnam Singh, Sh. K.S.
Sodhi, Ms. Sarabjit Kaur and Social worker Sh. Satish Bhaskar
were also present. In the end of the function, all the children,
officers and staff also took pledge that they will follow traffic
rules vigorously and shall also inform their parents, brother and
sister, friends and relatives to follow Road Safety Rules. All
students participated enthusiastically in the camp and were
excited to be a part of it.
95. 11.07.2018 Awareness Campaign to aware the women to wear the safety head
gear (helmet)
On 11.07.2018 Chandigarh Traffic Police conducted an awareness
campaign at various places in the city to aware the women to wear the
safety head gear (helmet) with regard to Chandigarh Administration
Notification issued vide No.H-III(7)-2018/10101 dated 06.07.2018,
wherein the helmets are compulsory for women riders and pillion
riders except a Sikh person (including woman) wearing a turban.
This campaign was conducted with role of Yamraj Ji and
Chitarkutt Ji, wherein maximum public especially woman participated
in the campaign interestingly. Chandigarh Police spread awareness
among women two wheeler drivers to wear helmet through role of
Yamraj Ji and Chitarkutt Ji.
Besides this, awareness programme were also organized in
Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa High School, Sector 35 and Sacred Heart
School, Sector 26, Chandigarh to sensitize the school students. 200
girl‟s students attended this session. Traffic Marshals, Sh. Mohinder
Kataria and Kulmeet Sodhi were also present and aware the students
to follow traffic rules. Students were also requested to spread the
message of wearing helmet further in their family and among dear
ones.
96. 12.07.2018 Awareness Campaign to aware the women to wear the safety head
gear (helmet)
On 12.07.2018, an awareness workshop on females to wear helmet was
organized by Chandigarh Traffic Police at Infosys, I.T. Park, UT
Chandigarh. 2000 employees of Infosys were present during the
campaign. Insp. Sita Devi appeals the women employee that all the
women riding two-wheeler should wear good quality ISI Mark Helmet.
It is for own safety. Women two-wheeler riders should not
compromise with their safety. HC Bhupinder Singh sung a song on
female helmet safety. A quiz on traffic rules was also held and prizes
were given, who gave right answers to the questions. In the end, Sh.
Shashank Anand, SSP–Security & Traffic also addressed the
gathering that women may ensure their own safety while riding two-
wheeler, even if they are riding pillion and wear a good quality helmet.
He informed the employees that U.T. Administration has made
mandatory orders/notification for women two-wheeler riders to wear
helmet except Sikh women wearing turban. He also said if they have
children, they may also wear helmet as a pillion rider, as all size of
helmets are available in the market. On this occasion, Mr. Rishi Pratap
Singh, Ms. Paromita Barman, Mr. Anuj Kumar, Ms. Sunaina Munshi of
Infosys, DSP Yashpal Vinayak, Insp. Sita Devi, Insp. Dilsher Singh and
Team of Children Traffic Park was also present on the occasion.
97. 13.07.2018 On 13.07.2018, Sh. Sanjay Beniwal, Worthy/DGP/UT, appreciated the
team of Crime Branch, UT/Chandigarh which were part of operation
conducted successfully in nabbing dreaded gangster Dilpreet Singh
Dahan @ Baba on 9.7.2018. All members in team have been rewarded
with 1st Class Commendation Certificate and cash prize for their

wearing helmet on two wheeler at 23/24 Light Point, Chandigarh. 99. 14.07.2018 Awareness workshop to aware the women to wear the safety head

An awareness workshop on females to wear helmet was organized by
Chandigarh Traffic Police at Dental College, Sector-25, Chandigarh.
Approx. 160 students alongwith professors of Dental College were
present during the campaign. Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP–Security
& Traffic was the chief guest, who appeals the female students and
professors that all the women riding two-wheeler should wear good
quality ISI Mark Helmet. It is for their own safety. Women two-
wheeler riders should not compromise with their safety. He informed
the audiance that U.T. Administration has made mandatory

Rotary Club were also present on the occasion.
100. 13-15.07.2018 Special Drives against drunken driving and speeding in the city
Chandigarh Traffic Police is regularly conducting special drives against
drunken driving and speeding in the city. During this weekend (13-15
July), Chandigarh Traffic Police booked 142 persons for the violation
of Drunken Driving and 241 persons for the violation of speeding.
Further, during this year upto 15.7.2018, 4308 challans have been
issued for the violation of drunken driving, which is 1924 more than
last year for the same period. Moreover, during this year upto
15.7.2018, 9937 challans have been issued for the violation of
overspeeding in the city, which is 7810 more than last year for the
same period.
As per Section 185 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, offender of
drunken driving shall be punishable for the first offence with
imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine
which may extend to two thousand rupees, or with both.
Further, as per Section 20 (2) of MV Act, 1988, drunken
driving offender‟s driving license shall be disqualified for period of
not less than six months.
As per Section 22(2) of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, if a person,
having been previously convicted of an offence punishable under
Section 185 is again convicted of an offence punishable under that
section, the Court, making such subsequent conviction shall, by order,
cancel the Driving Licence held by such person.
Further, as per Section 184 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988,
offender of speeding shall be punishable for the first offence with
imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine
which may extend to one thousand rupees, or with both.
Further, as per the directions of Hon‟ble Supreme Court
Committee on Road Safety, Chandigarh Traffic Police is recommending
the suspension of DL of violators of the following traffic violations
even for the first such violation :-
Speeding
Use of Mobile Phone
Driving vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Jumping of Red Light
During this year 2018 upto 15.7.2018, driving licenses of 5409
such drivers have been recommended for suspension to concerned
licensing authorities.
101. 16.07.2018 Awareness Campaign to aware the women to wear the safety head
gear (helmet)
Awareness drive among females to wear helmet was conducted by
Chandigarh Traffic Police at GCG-11, UT Chandigarh. During the drive,
Sh. Shashank Anand IPS, SSP Traffic & Security appeal the women
two wheeler riders to wear good quality ISI Mark Helmet and he
presented roses & free coupons to the female two wheeler riders who
found wearing helmet provided by the representative of Mann Filling
Station, Sector 49-B, Chandigarh (Indian Oil). Inspector Sarwan Singh
and Inspector Sukhdeep Singh of Chandigarh Traffic Police were also
present during the awareness drive. Pamphlets of „Helmet mandatory
for women‟ were also distributed among the female two-wheeler riders
and pillion riders.
Besides this, an awareness drive was also conducted by
Chandigarh Traffic Police along with school students of Govt. Girls Sr.
Sec. School, Sector-23, Chandigarh at Press L/point, UT Chandigarh.

102. 18.07.2018 Awareness Campaign to aware the women to wear the safety head
gear (helmet)
Awareness drive regarding females to wear helmet was conducted by
Chandigarh Traffic Police at Gate No. 2, Punjab University in
collaboration with Lions Club Chandigarh Central, Bharat Vikas
Parishad North-1, Shred Bala Ji Parchar Mandal and Kumar Rasoi
Sector 37, Chandigarh. During the drive, Sh. Shashank Anand IPS
SSP/Traffic & Security motivated female two wheeler riders to wear
good quality ISI Mark Helmet. Female two-wheeler riders should not
compromise with their safety. About 400 No‟s Coffee Mugs with
photo of female two wheeler rider with the title “Helmet Pahnao- Beti
Bacho” and with logo of Chandigarh Traffic Police & sponsor logo were
distributed to appreciate the female two wheeler riders who found
wearing helmet. Apart from this, Stickers of „Helmet Pahnao-Beti
Bachao‟ & Pamphlets of „Helmet mandatory for women‟ were also
distributed among the female two-wheeler riders and pillion riders
who were not wearing helmet. Inspector Sita Devi, I/C CTP along with
her awareness team, Sh. Satish Bhaskar, Social Worker and very
special guest from Kinnar Community Raveena Didi with her four
Chales was also present during the awareness drive.
103. 03.08.2018 New Traffic Marshal Enrollement
The “Traffic Marshal” scheme was introduced in the year 2004 as a
Community Policing project to invite participation of active members
of the public who are willing to devote their time voluntarily to the
cause of road safety without any remuneration. Traffic Marshals
contribute towards improvement of the interface of Chandigarh
Traffic Police with the general public by serving as community
observers for ensuring transparency and fairness in the enforcement
drive of Chandigarh Traffic Police. Apart from road safety
enforcement, Traffic Marshals also play an active role in the domain
of road safety viz. Education.
Chandigarh Traffic Police has enrolled 20 new Traffic
Marshals and with them the total number of Traffic Marshals are now
97. Amongst these new Traffic Marshals, these are accomplished
citizens of the city from different walks of life such as armed forces,
academics, medical profession to name a few.
Further, a one week orientation programme for these
new Traffic Marshals was conducted at Children Traffic Park, Sector
23, Chandigarh, in which they have been given training on road safety
including traffic laws and rules, basic training in first aid and first
hand and experience regarding enforcement of traffic rules and
regulations.
104. 06.08.2018 Helmet awareness campaign for female two wheeler riders
Chandigarh Traffic Police in association with Market Welfare
Association of Sector 24-C and Labour Committee of Chandigarh
Beopar Mandal has organized Road Safety awareness campaign
regarding wearing of helmet for female two wheeler riders in UT
Chandigarh infront of SCO No. 5, Sector 24, Chandigarh. In this road
safety awareness programme Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP/Traffic
& Security, Sh. Jaswinder Singh, DSP/Traffic (Admn, R&D and Road
Safety), Sh. Charanjiv Singh, Chairman, Sh. Anil Vohra, President, Sh.
Ravinder Singh Billa, Vice President and other staff of Chandigarh
Beopar Mandal, Inspector Central Zone, Incharge CTP and staff were
participated.
During this road safety campaign, more than 30
helmets were distributed to those female two wheeler riders who
were not wearing helmet. Further, those female two wheeler riders
who were wearing helmet were awarded with Parkar Pen, Mobile Anti
Virus, Stationary set, Touch Pen, small Chairs for Children and
Umbrellas. More than 300 road safety litterateurs were distributed
to female two wheeler riders. Chandigarh Traffic Police appeals to
the female two wheeler riders to wear ISI helmet for their own
safety. 105. 09.08.2018 Awareness drive by Traffic Police
An awareness drive was conducted by Chandigarh Traffic Police in
collaboration with jasbir Singh Bunty & Bhag Singh (Hotel Modern
Palace) at Attawa Chowk. During the drive, Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS
SSP-Traffic & Security UT Chandigarh motivated the female two
wheeler drivers/pillion riders to wear helmet of good quality and do
not compromise with their safety. During the drive total 400 female
two wheeler riders were sensitized.
106. 29.08.2018 Female Helmet Awareness Rally
Chandigarh Traffic Police is running a special campaign titled “Helmet
Pehnao Beti Bachao” to impart mass awareness to female two-wheeler
riders to wear safety helmets for their own safety.
As a part of this initiative, today i.e. 29.8.2018, a 30 km rally
of around 200 female two-wheeler riders wearing protective head
gear was flagged off from Post Graduate Govt. College for Girls,
Sector 11, Chandigarh by Road Accident Victims namely Ms. Pooja, Ms.
Manpreet Kaur, Ms. Sapna and her mother, Mr. Puran Chand H/o Ms.
Rekha Mahajan, L/Ct. Nikka (Traffic Wing) and L/Ct. Pardeep Kaur
(Security Wing). This rally was initially led by Mrs. Nilambari
Jagadale, IPS, SSP, UT Chandigarh. This rally covered the entire
length and breadth of the city covering 28 sectors and culminated at
Post Graduate Govt. College for Girls, Sector 42, Chandigarh. Route
map of the rally is annexed. Before start of the rally, 200 helmets
were distributed to girl students who took part in this rally. The
objective of this rally was to build public awareness and enthusiasm
amongst road users to wear helmet while riding two-wheelers.
It is hereby informed to the general public that Chandigarh
Traffic Police will commence enforcement of the rule making helmet
mandatory for women barring Sikh women wearing turban from 5th
September, 2018 onwards.
Chandigarh Traffic Police appeals to all female two-wheeler
drivers/riders who ought to wear protective head gear to arrange a
good quality ISI mark helmet for their own safety immediately.
107. 30.08.2018 “Zero Tolerance Day” of traffic violations
On 30.08.2018 Chandigarh Traffic Police has observed a “Zero
Tolerance Day” of traffic violations all over the city beautiful for the
month of August-2018, in which all police officials deployed in various
police stations, Police Posts, PCR and other field units also directed to
undertake thorough Challaning of traffic violations in the city.
Chandigarh Traffic Police has laid two special Naka of over speed
violation and one naka for Red Light jump violation in the city. During
“Zero Tolerance Day” towards traffic violation below mentioned
traffic violation challans i.e. Red light jump, over speed, W/O helmet,
Mobile Use, Cycle track violations and other traffic violations issued

108. 14.09.2018 Workshop on „Traffic Safety Awareness‟ at University Institute of
Legal Studies, PU
On 14.09.2018, Chandigarh Traffic Police, organized a Workshop on
„Traffic Safety Awareness‟, in the Moot Court Hall of the Criminal
Justice Practicum Cell of University Institute of Legal Studies, PU.
The workshop was attended by over 150 students and faculty of UILS.
It was organized by Mrs. Anju Chaudhary, Assistant Professor (Law),
under the mentorship of Prof. Rattan Singh, Director, UILS.
Inspector Sita Devi, along with her team explained in details the
traffic rules and precautionary measures to avoid road mishaps. It
was followed by Mr. Rajinder, Head Constable, who showed real time
videos of road accidents in Chandigarh. Mr. Bhupinder Singh, Head
Constable, through his unique Punjabi songs on traffic awareness,
sensitized the students. The event witnessed a great deal of
enthusiasm as the students participated actively in the Traffic
Awareness Quiz conducted at the end of the session. 109. 19.09.2018 Cycle Rally to observe world car free day
Today a cycle rally was organised by Chandigarh Traffic Police and
Cyclegiri group, IMA Chandigarh to observe world car free day. The
rally was conceptualized by Cyclegiri group, a unique aggregation of
doctors and other professionals, who advocate the use of bicycles in
the Tricity. They say "we aim at healthier, closer, happier, better
connected communities. We want all to experience the city together in
a way that is not just possible in cars.We want people to return to
their childhood and experience the joy that comes with cycling."
Chandigarh traffic police community and the doctors of Indian
Medical Association, Chandigarh, joined hands with the Cyclegiri group
for a RIDE IN FORMALS, to promote the concept of cycling to work.
Even strong rains could not dampen the spirit of the extremely
excited cyclists, who had braved the rains to gather at Sukhna Lake,
Chandigarh at 7 am . The 300 odd cyclists, men ,women, children alike,
had gathered in formal dresses to educate upon the need to adopt
cycling as a part of lifestyle. The event began with SSP traffic police
Mr Shashank Anand informing the public about the commissioning of
the cycle squad and the judicious use of the cycle track laid down
across the city along with various other measures the Chandigarh
traffic police has taken to ensure safety of the cyclists. It was
followed by Dr Hardeep Singh Santokh Joint sectary IMA, who
enumerated the need of incorporating cycling as a measure of healthy
lifestyle to preventive various diseases. A cardiologist from Grecian
Hospital Mohali educated the public of benefits of cycling and
prevention of heart diseases. The ride was flagged off by prominent
road safety activist, Mr Harman Sidhu and was led by SSP, Traffic
police, Chandigarh,Mr. Shashank Anand. The ride proceeded through 9
km of cycling tracks to reach IMA complex at sector 35, Chandigarh.
The rally was unique in away that all cyclists used cycling tracks to
ride, and also wanted people to realize the importance of cycling
tracks. The recently appointed CYCLING SQUAD of Chandigarh
traffic police also participated in the ride along with many other
senior police officers.
The doctors of IMA biked in formal dresses, in their white
aprons. This was done with an aim to remove the hesitation that people
have while cycling to work places. The doctor community gave a strong

footpaths and cycle tracks
On 28.09.2018 and 27.09.2018 Chandigarh Traffic Police conducted an
awareness drive including prosecution regarding driving and parking
motor vehicles at footpaths and cycle tracks. The Traffic Police team
of Children Traffic Park along with school children of various schools
participated in the drive. The violators were imparted road safety
education by the school children and traffic police for effective
results. Today i.e. on 28.09.2018, 12 offenders were prosecuted
during the drive. Further, drive will continue on Monday the Ist Oct
2018.
111. 29.09.2018 Zero Tolerance Day” against traffic violations by Chandigarh Police
On 29.9.2018 Chandigarh Police has observed a “Zero Tolerance Day”
against traffic violations in the area of Police Station Sector-19,
Chandigarh i.e Sector-19, 20, 18 & 21 from 8.00 AM to 8.00 PM in
which all police officials deployed in the area of police station, Sector-
19, PCR vehicles, traffic police and other field staff also directed to
undertake thorough and coordinated checking of vehicles. During
“Zero Tolerance Day” total 733 challans were issued today and 23
vehicles impounded for traffic violation i.e. Red light jump, over
speed, W/O helmet, Mobile Use, Cycle track violations and other
traffic violations. 112. 06.10.2018 Special Drive against the motorists plying, wrong entry and wrong
parking on the cycle tracks and footpath
Chandigarh Traffic Police has launched special drive against the
motorists plying, wrong entry and wrong parking on the cycle tracks
and footpath in different locations of the city for the safety of
cyclists and pedestrians under the supervision of Zonal Traffic DSPs
and Inspectors. During drive Kalandra U/S 184 M.V.Act 1988 initiated
against 29 violators they were arrested and bailed out for plying
vehicle on cycle tracks/footpath and their vehicles also impounded.
Chandigarh traffic police conducted meetings with the
members of Market, Resident welfare associations, Panchayat
members of Villages and heads of religious places for the awareness
use of cycle tracks and no parking of motor vehicles on Cycle
tracks/footpaths.
113. 03.11.2018 Painting Competition under the theme “Cycling to a healthier and
cleaner future”
On dated 03.11.2018, during the celebration of 9th Police Week
Chandigarh. Traffic police organized a Painting Competition under the
theme “Cycling to a healthier and cleaner future” at multipurpose hall,
Sec-26, Police Lines. 200 students of 19 Govt. Schools and 02 Private
Schools participated in said painting competition. Competition was held
in two categories i.e Senior wing and Junior wing. Smt. Arpana Beniwal
W/o Sh. Sanjay Beniwal IPS, DGP UT, Chd, President, Chandiarh Police
Family Welfare Society was the Chief Guest of the event. Smt.

address. A Cultural program was also held and during the function i.e.
Himachali folk song, bhangra, Haryanwi Folk dance, Rajasthani folk
dance, and Punjabi folk songs were performed by the students and HC
Bhupinder Singh also sang song on Traffic Awareness. Shri Pankaj
Saroj and Gurpreet Dhiman of Art College were the judges of the
painting competition.
Out of the participants, Shilpa, Class 12th A, Govt. Model Sr. Sec.
School sector 39 C got 1st position. Rajnee Kaur, Class 10th B,
GMSSS Sector 39 C got 2nd position. Prerna Class 9th, B Moti ram
Arya Sr. Sec. School Sector 27 A got 3rd position in senior wing.
Whereas, Swati, roll no. 36 of class 8th A, GMSSS, Sec 39 C got 1st
position, Dheeraj, roll no. 22 of class 8th B, GMSSS, Sec 16 D got 2nd
position, Deepankshi, roll no. 10 of class 8th C, GMSSS, Sec 35 D got
3rd position in Junior Category. Apart from these, two consolation
prizes were given to Gurpreet Kaur of class 8th B, GMSSS, Sec 39 C
and Manpreet Kaur of class 11th GMSSS-23A, Chandigarh. Winners of
all categories were awarded with Trophies and Certificates by the
Chief Guest.
114. 18.11.2018 World Remembrance Day for Road Accident Victims was observed
by Chandigarh Traffic Police
On 18.11.2018 World Remembrance Day for Road Accident Victims was
observed by Chandigarh Traffic Police at Children Traffic Park sector
23, Chandigarh in collaboration with Citizen Awareness Group,
Chandigarh and Consumer Voice. More than 150 citizens and NSS
students of DAV Collage Sector 10, Chandigarh participated. 2
minutes silence was observed followed by Candle March in Children
Traffic Park.
Inspector Sita Devi was the chief guest who aware the students about
road safety in her address. DSP Hardit Singh, Surender Verma
Chairman Citizen Awareness Group, Chandigarh, Mrs. Monika Arora
National President Women Power Society of India, Traffic marshals
were also present on this occasion. Road Accident Victims were also
invited who share their experience about accident.
115. 27.11.2018 Two days Programme „School Conclave for Road Safety at Delhi
Public School, Sector-40, Chandigarh‟
The 1st session of two days „School Conclave for Road Safety, Capacity
Building Programme for School Teachers‟ was organized by Institute
of Road Traffic Education in collaboration with Chandigarh Traffic
Police and sponsored by DIAGEO foundation in the auditorium of Delhi
Public School Sector 40. Sh. Sanjay Baniwal IPS Director General of
Police UT Chandigarh was the chief guest of the program who appeals
everyone to follow Traffic Rules as well as share their experience
about road safety in his address. Welcome address given by Mrs.
Reema Dewan, Principal of DPS. Dr. Rohit Baluja, Director Institute of
Road Traffic Education gave information about their institute. Vote of
thanks delivered by Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS SSP Security & Traffic
UT Chandigarh.
During the session Dr. Rohit Baluja give presentation to the teacher
on Aims of School Conclave methodology, Definition of the Curriculum,
the importance of hidden curriculum to bring in the knowledge of the
road‟s and road safety, primary causes of child accident, Role of the
teachers and parents in imparting education, principles of road safety
education in different age groups 0-4, 5-7, 8-10 and above 10 years,

116. 28.11.2018 Two days programme concluded „School Conclave for Road Safety
at Delhi Public School, Sector-40, Chandigarh‟
The 2nd day of two days „School Conclave for Road Safety-

Mishra IPS, DIGP/UT Chandigarh, Shri Shashank Anand, IPS,
SSP/Traffic & Security, Dr. Rohit Baluja, Director IRTE, Dr.
Surender S. Dahiya, Director SCERT, Chandigarh, Ms. Anujeet Kaur,
DEO/UT Chandigarh, Mrs. Reema Dewan, Principal, Delhi Public School,
Chandigarh was also present on this occasion. A motivational song and
Ganesh Vandhana was performed by students of Delhi Public School
Sector 40, Chandigarh.
During this event, Dr. Rohit Baluja, Director, IRTE defined thirteen
objectives regarding road safety were explained to the 91 school
teachers of Govt. schools of UT Chandigarh and teachers were
encouraged how to communicate these objectives through the existing
subjects of the curriculum to the school children. Besides this, an
interactive session with the school teachers was also held. Apart
from this, certificates of participation were distributed to all the
school teachers who attended this programme. 117. 05.12.2018 Special Campaign- “Make Chandigarh Honk Free”
Chandigarh Traffic Police run the special campaign- “Make Chandigarh
Honk Free”. The motive of this campaign is “To make Chandigarh
sound beautiful”.
This campaign covered the following road safety aspects:
Not blowing horn unnecessarily
Lane driving
Right of Way
Not using pressure horns
Not altering silencer especially of motorcycles
Not overspeeding
Respecting the rights of pedestrians and cyclists
In the first phase, Chandigarh Traffic Police started enforcement
against vehicle drivers who blow horn in the premises of three medical
institutions i.e. GMSH-16, GMCH-32 and PGIMER from 5.12.2018
onwards.
Chandigarh Traffic Police also appealed to citizens to not blow horn
unnecessarily. Noise pollution is injurious to health. Let us Make
Chandigarh Honk Free.
118. 16.12.2018 Chandigarh Police Traffic Cycle Squad also participated in Vijay
Diwas
Today, Vijay Diwas was celebrated to commemorate armed forces
victory over Pakistan in 1971 Bangladesh liberation war. Bakhtwar
Cycling Club and Thumpers Café with large number of residents,
doctors, social activist, ex-army men and NCC cadets have
participated. Chandigarh Police Traffic Cycle Squad also participated
and given message to the tricity residents to keep environment
healthy and promoted cycling in the city. Sh Arjun, IAS SDM East
along with SDPO South Ms. Niharika Bhatt IPS & DSP Jaswinder
Singh wreath at war memorial in Chandimandir and rest of the
participants paid tribute with flowers.
119. 22.12.2018 Workshop on Health Effect of Air Pollution was held at Auditorium
of Traffic and Security Lines
On 22.12.18 a workshop on health effect of Air pollution was
held at Auditorium of Traffic and security lines, Sector-29,
Chandigarh Dr Suman Mor Asstt Prof Deptt of Environment studies
Panjab University, Dr Ravinder Khaiwal Addl Prof. Deptt of Community
medicine & Public Health PGI and Mr Vikram Hans MD Multi gave
presentation on the effect of air pollution to human body in short and
long term. They specially explain how the polluted air affects the
traffic cops who are facing more than one lac vehicles each day. They
suggested that traffic cops must wear masks on duty and take care of
their health. Dr. Ravinder Khaiwal demonstrates how one cigarette
affects the lungs of human body. Mr Vikram Hans handed over 250
masks to SSP/Security and traffic to distribute among the traffic
staff. On this occasion Sh Shashank Anand, IPS. SSP/Security &
traffic, Sh Jaswinder Singh, DSP/Traffic/Admn and
Insp/Traffic/Admn. Mrs Sita were also present in the workshop.
120. 24.12.2018 Action against drunken driving
Chandigarh Traffic Police is regularly conducting special drives against
drunken driving in the city. During this weekend (21-23 December),
Chandigarh Traffic Police has booked 74 persons for the violation of
Drunken Driving. Further, during this year upto 23.12.2018, 6210
challans have been issued for the violation of drunken driving.
As per Section 185 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, offender of
drunken driving shall be punishable for the first offence with
imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with
fine which may extend to two thousand rupees, or with both.
Further, as per Section 20 (2) of MV Act, 1988, drunken
driving offender‟s driving license shall be disqualified for period of
not less than six months.
As per Section 22(2) of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, if a person,
having been previously convicted of an offence punishable under
Section 185 is again convicted of an offence punishable under that
section, the Court, making such subsequent conviction shall, by order,
cancel the Driving Licence held by such person.
Further, as per section 19 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 read
with Rule 21 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, the DL of
violators of the following traffic violations could get suspended for a
period of 3-6 months:-
Driving vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Speeding
Use of Mobile Phone
Jumping of Red Light
During this year 2018 upto 23.12.2018, driving licenses of
7263 such drivers have been recommended for suspension to
concerned licensing authorities.
Chandigarh Traffic Police appeals to the general public to
avoid driving in drunken condition and to ensure that a sober
designated person drives in such a situation or alternate means of
transport are engaged. Strict action shall be continued to be taken
against such violations in the future.
121. 31.12.2018 to

Chandigarh Traffic Police is regularly conducting special drives against
drunken driving in the city. On the eve of New Year, 2019,
Chandigarh Traffic Police booked 205 persons for the violation of
Drunken Driving in the city. Further, during 2018, 6574 challans have
been issued for the violation of drunken driving.

122. 09.01.2019 Road Safety Education Awareness Program
On 09.01.2019, under the Road Safety Education Awareness Program
the Team of CTP visited Home Science girls College, Sec-10 Chd to
aware the 184 NCC cadets of different colleges of city, about traffic
rules & consequences of not to wearing the safety helmets by the
females, two wheeler riders and one should not Honk unnecessarily.
Jaswinder Singh DSP, Traffic, Col. V.K. Sheoran, S.M. Satish Singh
and Girls Cadet Instructor Kamaljeet Kaur and 14 newly inducted
traffic Marshals were also present on the occasion. During the
campaign literature on Road Safety were distributed among cadets,
some CCTV captured accident videos of Chandigarh also shown during
the workshop and emphasis was made to follow the traffic rules and
be safe on roads. DSP Traffic Admin Jaswinder Singh delivered a
lecture on “traffic rules & to wear Helmet by women riders and pillion
riders on two wheelers”, not to jump Red Light and offences in which
Driving licence got suspend. Insp. Sita Devi told all the cadets about
traffic signs. HC Bhupinder Singh sang a song on Road safety to
encourage the use of helmets while driving two wheelers by females.
Pledge was also taken by all to follow the traffic rules. . Col. V.K.
Sheoran presented a memento to Insp. Sita Devi and her team.
123. 11.01.2019 14 New Traffic Marshals enrolled
Chandigarh Traffic police has enrolled 14 new traffic marshals on
temporarily and provisionally basis. They have imparted training for
one week i.e. 07-01-2019 to 11-01-2019. During the training Sh.
Jaswinder Singh DSP traffic admin and Insp. Sita Devi I/C CTP
explain them about dos or don‟ts, behavior and conduct of the
marshals and the procedure which has to be practiced by the
marshals. They were also educated about road safety awareness
traffic rules and first aid training. They were also taken to special
nakas conducted by traffic police. Today i.e. on 11-01-2019 at conclude
day Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS W/SSP/Traffic& security address the
Traffic Marshals and wishes them to be a part of Chandigarh police.
124. 04.02.2019 Inauguration of 30th National Road Safety Week
On 04.02.2019, the 30th National Road Safety Week was
inaugurated by Sh. Sanjay Baniwal, IPS, Director General of
Police, UT, Chandigarh at Govt. College, Sector 46, Chandigarh.
During this programme, Dr. O.P. Mishra, IPS, DIG/Chandigarh,
Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP/Traffic & Security, Smt.
Nilambari Jagdale, IPS, SSP/L&O, Dr. Rosy Walia, Principle,
Govt. College, Sector 46, Chandigarh, Sh. Harman Singh Sidhu,
President ArriveSafe, Mr. Gaurav Kathuria, Vice President,
HDFC Bank, various traffic marshals and police officers were
present. Road safety talk was delivered by the Chief Guest Sh.
Sanjay Baniwal, IPS, Director General of Police, UT, Chandigarh
and Dr. O.P. Mishra, IPS, DIG/Chandigarh. Further, Road
Accident Analysis Book-2019 was also released by
W/DGP/Chandigarh. Sh. Harman Singh Sidhu, President
ArriveSafe delivered a talk on importance of road safety. Skit
on road safety titled “Chhoo Lo Asman” was also performed by
Traffic Marshals. The 30th National Road Safety Week-2019 are being observed
from 04.02.2019 to 10.02.2019 as per the instructions issued by
the Govt. of India, The theme of this Road Safety Week this
year is “Sadak Suraksha-Jeevan Raksha”. During the Road
Safety Week, various road safety activities such as inter school
declamation contest for school students, helmet rally by female
two wheeler riders, painting competition for school children,
First Aid Training to the traffic and PCR, workshop for auto
rickshaw drivers, blood donation camp for road accident victims
and free health checkup camp will be organized to raise the
level of road safety awareness among the general public.
125. 05.02.2019 Inter School Declamation Contest
On 05.02.2019, Chandigarh Traffic Police organized Inter
School Declamation Contest with the subject “which mode if
better for road safety; private transport/public transport” for
school students at Auditorium, Bhawan Vidyalaya Sector 27,
Chandigarh as part of 30th National Road Safety 2019. Sh. Amit
Talwar, IAS, Director Transport, UT Chandigarh was consented
as Chief Guest in the function. Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS,
SSP/Traffic & Security, Sh. Amrao Singh, DSP/Traffic/South
and traffic Inspectors were present during the event. Sh. C.S.
Grewal, Wg.Cr., Chief Traffic Marshal, Sh. Manmohan Luthra, of
buckle up 4 road safety organization and other traffic marshals
were also present. Three Judges namely Sh.R.S.Batra, Major
General(Retd.), AVSM, VSM, Sh.Baldev Singh, SP(Retd.) and Sh.
B.C Rajput, Sessions Judge(Retd.) were the panel judges in this
event. Approximately 200 students from various Govt. & private
schools participated in this contest. Panel Judges declared

126. 05.02.2019 Traffic awareness lecture for school children
Traffic awareness lecture has been given to school children of
govt. Sen.Sec. School Sector 32 Chandigarh by Inspector
Jaspal Singh, Insp Traffic South Zone, Traffic Marshall PK
Aggarwal and his team on account of 30th National Road Safety
Week 2019. The lecture was attended by more than 100
students including teachers and principal of the school. School
Children make aware regarding road safety. The pamphlets
regarding traffic awareness also distributed among students.
127. 06.02.2019 Female Helmet Rally Chandigarh Traffic Police organized a Female Helmet Rally as
part of 30th Road Safety Week-2019 being observed from 4th
to 10th February 2019 with a theme “Sadak Sureksha Jeevan
Raksha”. The Female Helmet Rally was flagged off at 11.00 AM
by Smt. Savita Bhatti w/o Late Sh. Jaspal Singh Bhatti from
MCM College, Sec-36, U.T., Chandigarh, wherein about 300
female two wheeler riders participated, which passed through
various sectors of U.T., Chandigarh to promote wearing of
safety head gear by women while riding on two wheelers. Sh.
Shashank Anand, W/SSP/Security & Traffic along with other
Officers was also present there. Two hundred helmets were
also gifted to female riders for their participation for a noble
cause.
128. 07.02.2019 Painting Competition for school children under Road Safety
Chandigarh Traffic Police organized a Painting Competition for
school children at Multipurpose Hall, Police Lines, Sector-26 as
part of 30th Road Safety Week-2019 being observed from 4th
to 10th Feb 2019. Approx. 200 students of Government and
Private Schools participated in this Painting Competition. The
competition was divided in two categories i.e junior wing from
class-6th to 8th and senior wing from class 9th to 12th. Standard

Police organized two days “Jeevan Rakshak” Training programme for Training to first responders to rescue victims of road accidents and violence at Recruit Training Centre, Hall, Police Lines, Sector-26, Chandigarh by the Save Life Foundation based at New Delhi. 2. Chandigarh Traffic Police organized a workshop on road safety awareness for Auto Rickshaw Drivers at Rally Ground, Sector-25, Chandigarh, in which about 218 Auto Rickshaw drivers participated in the workshop. During workshop printed road safety material distributed to the participants.
3. Chandigarh Traffic Police along with Anand Sales (India) and Pioneer Toyota group organized a drive to affixing of reflective tape on Cycles, Rickshaws/Rehri and helmet at Poultry farm chowk. During drive about 1000 reflectors affixed and 300 safety reflective jackets distributed to the cyclists and Rickshaw/Rehri pullers and they also awared about the road safety and
use of cycle tracks. Sh Shashank Anand IPS, SSP/Traffic & Security, Sh. Satbir Singh Anand, Director Anand Sales (India), Sh Neeraj Goyal, Vice President After Sales Pioneer Toyota group and Sh Jaswinder Singh DSP/Traffic were present on this occasion.
131. 10.02.2019 Blood donation camp for Road accidents victims and free
health checkup for drivers On 10.02.2019 as a part of 30th National Road Safety Week-2019 being observed from 4th to 10th Feb 2019 with a theme “Sadak Suraksha Jeevan Raksha” Chandigarh traffic police along with Rotary Blood Bank resource Centre, Sector-37, organized a Blood donation camp for Road accidents victims and free health checkup for drivers of CTU, Haryana, Punjab, Pepsu Raodways, Auto Rickshaw, Ola, Uber Taxi associations as well as police drivers at Police Hospital, Police Lines Sector-26, Chandigarh. During the camp Eye, Dental, medical and urology Checkup was conducted. During camp total 100, police officials, auto rickshaw drivers and other participants donated the blood and 300 police, public, roadways, Ola and uber drivers were medically examined. 132. 13.02.2019 Action against motor vehicles plying on cycle tracks
Chandigarh Traffic Police is regularly conducting special drives
against motor vehicles plying on cycle tracks in U.T. Chandigarh.
In order to take strict action against the motor vehicles plying
on cycle track all the traffic police officials have been sensitized and
equipped to enforce section 202 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 as
per which persons who commit the offence punishable under section
184 MV Act, 1988 (driving dangerously) in their presence are arrested
without warrant and their vehicles are impounded. Further, all such
cases are submitted to the concerned Court with the request for
institution of prosecution case against violators as per provisions of
M.V. Act, 1988.
On 13.2.2019, 07 such cases have been booked under section
202 read with Section 184 M.V. Act, 1988 for the violation of plying
motor vehicles on cycle track at dividing road, Sector 44/45,
Chandigarh.
This drive was started in the month of October, 2018 and till
date, 436 such cases under section 202 read with Section 184 M.V.
Act, 1988 have been booked for the said violation.
As per Section 184 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, offender of
such offence shall be punishable for the first offence with
imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with
fine which may extend to one thousand rupees.

134. 04.03.2019 Awareness Programme to Aware the Cyclists, Rickshaw Rehri Pullars to Uses Cycle Track and Wear the Reflective Jackets On 4.3.2019 Chandigarh Traffic Police along with M/S INDUS TOWERS organized a awareness programme at Housing board light point and Poultry Farm chowk to aware the cyclists, Rickshaw Rehri
Pullars to uses cycle track and wear the reflective jackets while driving on cycle/rickshaw/Rehri for their safety and more visibility on the road. During drive 500 Reflector jackets to cyclist/rickshaw pullers, 2000 Pamphlets and 3000 Stickers of No Parking on Pedestrian way, No Mobile use, No Honking, use of seat belt and use helmets were distributed among the general public.
135. 20.03.2019 Special drive against traffic violations on Holi Festival
On the eve of Holi Festival, Chandigarh Police conducted special drive
against drunken driving, overspeeding, without helmets, triple riding
and other traffic violations in the city.
During this drive, total 1308 violators have been challaned for various
traffic offences and total 337 vehicles have been impounded. The
description of the same is as under:-
On the eve of Holi festival during this special checking, driving
licences of approx. 200 drivers will be recommended for suspension
for the violations of drunken driving, speeding, red light jump and use
of mobile phone while driving. Further, during this year upto 21.3.2019,
more than 1657 cases for suspension on driving license have been
recommended by Chandigarh Traffic police.
It is pertinent to mention that during this year upto 21.3.2019, 1269
offenders have been booked for the violation of drunken driving.
136. 08.04.2019 Special drive to check School buses and other forms of
transportation of school children in the city
Chandigarh Traffic Police is committed towards ensuring the safety
and security of children. Chandigarh Traffic Police frequently
conducts special drive to check School buses and other forms of
transportation of school children in the city. Chandigarh Traffic
Police today i.e. 08.04.2019 laid 8 different nakas to enforce traffic
rules in this regard. During this drive, 181 school transport vehicles
have been challaned for various traffic violations. Out of this, 94
challans have been issued against school bus drivers and 28 challans
have been issued against auto rickshaw drivers for various traffic
violations. Further, one school bus was impounded. Also, various school
buses drivers, conductors and parents were counseled to drive
carefully and within speed limits whenever transporting school
children.
137. 11.04.2019 Special drive to check School buses and other forms of
transportation of school children in the city
Chandigarh Traffic Police is committed towards ensuring the safety
and security of children. Chandigarh Traffic Police frequently
conducts special drive to check School buses and other forms of
transportation of school children in the city. Chandigarh Traffic
Police today i.e. 11.04.2019 laid 08 different nakas to enforce traffic
rules in this regard. During this drive, 92 school transport vehicles
have been challaned for various traffic violations. Out of this, 82
challans have been issued against school bus drivers and 10 challans
have been issued against auto rickshaw drivers for various traffic
violations. Further, 02 school buses were impounded during the above
naka. Also, various school buses drivers, conductors and parents were
counseled to drive carefully and within speed limits whenever
transporting school children.
138. 24.04.2019 Public Awareness regarding noise pollution on International Noise
Awareness Day
The IMA Chandigarh chapter and Tri-city ENT forum celebrated
International Noise Awareness Day on 24th April 2019 at the
traffic Auditorium, Traffic and security Lines, Sector-29, Chandigarh
with the aim to create public awareness regarding noise pollution and
its hazardous impact on hearing and brain auditory centre. Around
200 police officials of Traffic, Security and CRPF attended the
function. DR. Rajesh Dhir, President IMA, Chandigarh Chapter and
Head ENT Department at Govt. Multi-specialty Hospital Sector-16
gave an eye opening information about sound & noise as in general
more than 85 db are harmful depending upon how long & how after a
person is exposed to the noise. He advised hearing protection by ear
plugs/ear muffs for those who are exposed to the excessive noise.
For those who are in habit of using ear phones more than 15 min/day
are at a greater risk of hearing loss.
. Dr Nitin Mathur, Jt. Secretary IMA Chandigarh dwelt upon
the harmful effects of noise on hearing abilities of general public,
leading to other health problems. Mr. T.S. Anand from Anand Hearing
care explained to audience the basics of audiology and the
management of problem arising due to excessive noise pollution.
Sh Vineet Kumar, IPS, SP/Traffic were the chief guest in the
function. DSP/Traffic Jaswinder Singh and Harjeet Kaur were also
present in the function. Sh Vineet Kumar SP/Traffic honored the
doctors and members with mementos.
139. 24.05.2019 Traffic Police enrolled 10 new Traffic Marshals
Chandigarh Traffic Police has enrolled 10 new Traffic Marshals and
with them the total number of Traffic Marshals are now 120.
Amongst these new Traffic Marshals, these are accomplished citizens
of the city from different walks of life such as armed forces,
academics, medical profession to name a few.
Further, a one week orientation programme for these new Traffic
Marshals was conducted at Children Traffic Park, Sector 23,
Chandigarh, in which they have been given training on road safety
including traffic laws and rules, basic training in first aid and first
hand and experience regarding enforcement of traffic rules and
regulations.
140. 30.05.2019 Workshop on Jeevan Rakshak Training
On 30/05/2019 Chandigarh Traffic Police organized a
workshop on Jeevan Rakshak Training, conducted by Life Saving
Foundation New Delhi at Recruit Training Centre, Police Lines, Sector-
26, Chandigarh. Faculties of Life Saving Foundation namely Mr.
Krishan Singh and Mr. Shiv Om Singh imparted Life Saving Training
with practical demonstration to 20 Traffic and 20 PCR officials being
first respondents. The training will also be conducted on 31 May 2019
for second batch of traffic and PCR officials comprising of 40
officials, to save precious lives on roads by giving first aid to accident
and violence victims before medical help.
141. 31.05.2019 1st Road Safety Summer Camp-2019 concluded
Chandigarh Traffic Police has organized 1st Road Safety Summer
Camp-2019 at CTP, Sec-23, Chandigarh for school Children during
their summer vacations in 5 batches. The 1st batch of Road Safety
Summer Camp is being organized from 27.05.2019 to 31.05.2019 which
is attended by 60 students. The motive behind organizing the Summer
Camp is to sensitize future drivers about Road Safety. On the first
day of the Road Safety Summer Camp i.e. 27.05.2019, introductory
session about Road Safety was conducted and training about traffic
rules was given by Traffic marshals and Smt. Sita Devi, CPS, DSP
Traffic R&D. Activity like „Be Seen, Be Safe‟, Reflective Color Clothes
during the night riding, road safety games were played and detail
information on road sign also given.
On the 2nd day i.e. 28.05.2019, tips on the safe cycling to the school
children, a traffic drill was conducted by the traffic cops as well as
they were explained bout the pedestrian crossing, use of footpath etc.
A session on the road safety tips was taken by Sh. Kulmeet Sodhi,
Traffic Marshal. A lecture on the road safety was delivered by I/C
CTP SI Ashok Kumar. School Children Were also guided about riding
gear by Honda representatives. A talk by the team of IVY Hospital‟s
Pediatrician & Dietitian doctors on the health tips was also given.
On the 3rd day i.e. 29.05.2019, a road sign matching game was played
the school children. Children visited to sector 23/24 L/point for
physical training regarding Zebra crossing and manual traffic control.
On the 4th day i.e. on 30.05.2019, the students visited to Traffic Line
Sector 29, Chandigarh and information regarding the functioning of
CCTV Cameras, Challaing Branch and the Social Media Cell imparted to
them. The schools Children were also guided about Pedestrian Light
and traffic Drill. The road safety session and the moral values were
conducted by Dr. Santosh Gupta and Sukhjit Kaur, traffic Marshal. A
session on safety riding theory was also conducted by Honda officials.
Today, i.e. on 31.05.2019 on the concluding day of 1st batch of 60
children, essay writing competition was conducted between the
participants. Awards were given to the children who were best in
discipline, more intenative. Road safety test was also held and prizes
were given to 1st, 2nd & 3rd position. In the last, pledge to follow
traffic rule was conducted. Smt. Sita Devi CPS, DSP Traffic R&D was
the Chief Guest, Traffic marshal Sh. Satish Bhaskar, Kulmeet Sodhi,
MK Katariya, Dr. Santosh Gupta, R.L. Gupta and Sukhjit Kaur were also
present during the function. Smt. Sita Devi CPS, DSP Traffic R&D
distributed certificates and gifts to all the participant students for
their future encouragements.
142. 07.06.2019 2nd Road safety Summer Camp 2019 concluded successfully
Chandigarh Traffic Police has organized 2nd Road safety Summer
Camp 2019 at Children Traffic Park sector 23, Chandigarh for school
children during their summer vacations. The 2nd batch of road safety
summer camp is being organized from 03-06-2019 to 07-06-2019
which is attended by 68 students. The motive behind organizing the
summer camp to sensitize future drivers about road safety. On the
first day of the summer camp i.e. 03/06/19, introductory session
about the road safety was conducted and training about traffic rules
was given by traffic marshals and Smt. Sita Devi, DSP Traffic R&D.
Activities like Be seen, Be Safe, reflective color during night driving,
road safety games were conducted and detailed information of road
signs was also given.
On the second day i.e. 04/06/2019, tips on the safe cycling were given
to school children. A traffic drill was conducted by traffic Cops as
well as they were explained about pedestrian crossing, use of
footpath. A session on the road safety tips was taken by Smt. M.K.
Katariya traffic marshal. A lecture on the road safety was delivered
by I/C CTP SI Ashok Kumar. School children were also guided about
riding gears by Honda Representative.
On the third day i.e. 05/06/2019, a road sign matching game was
conducted for the school children. School children visited to 16/17
light point for physical training regarding Zebra crossing and Manual
traffic control. The road safety session and the morel value
conducted by Sh. Jagdish Diwan traffic marshal.
On the fourth day i.e. 06/06/2019, the student visited to traffic line
sector 29 chandigarh and information regarding the functioning of
CCTV Cameras, Challaning Branch and Social Media cell imparted to
them. The school children were also guided about pedestrian lights and
traffic drill. A road safety session was conducted by sh. Kulmeet
Sodhi traffic marshals. A session on safety riding theory was also
conducted by Honda officials. A talk by Dr. Savinder Kaur
pediatrician, Dr. Dimpy, Dr. Simran dietitian the team of IVY Hospital
sector-71 Mohali on the health tips was also given.
Today i.e. 07/06/2019, on the concluding day of the 2nd batch of 68
children were educated during road safety session by Dr. Santosh
Gupta traffic marshal. Road safety test was held between the
participants. Sh. Shashank Anand IPS, SSP Security& traffic was the
chief guest and encourage the student to follow traffic rule and be a
traffic ambassador. Awards were given to children who were best in
discipline and more initiative and 1st, 2nd and 3rd in road safety test.
Certificates and gifts are distributed to all the participant students
for their future encouragements. In the last, Pledge to follow the
traffic rules was also conducted. Smt. Sita Devi DSP R&D, SI Ashok
Kumar I/C CTP, Traffic marshal Satish Bhaskar, Kulmeet Sodhi, Smt.
M.K. Kataria Dr. Santosh Gupta were also present during the function.
143. 11.06.2019 Special Drive against drunken driving
Chandigarh Traffic Police is regularly conducting special drives against
drunken driving in the city. During weekend (7-9 June), Chandigarh
Traffic Police has booked 136 persons for the violation of Drunken
Driving. Further, during this year upto 11.06.2019, 2175 challans have
been issued for the violation of drunken driving.
144. 16.06.2019 Road Safety Awareness workshop for Driving Schools
On 16.06.2019, Chandigarh Traffic Police has conducted Road Safety
Awareness workshop for Driving Schools of UT Chandigarh in Children
Traffic Park, Sector 23, Chandigarh.There are 31 Driving Schools
have registered in Chandigarh. Out of these, 25 driving schools
participated in the workshop. Chandigarh Traffic Police Awareness
staff sensitizedthem about basic rules and regulations of road safety
i.e. follow speed limit, lane driving, right of way, overtaking, Hon‟ble
Supreme Court guideline on suspension of driving license, don‟t
ply/parking motor vehicle on cycle track/footpath, stop line etc.They
were specially sensitized about „No Honking‟. More stress was given to
wearing seat belt. Road Accident/awareness videos were also shown to
them. They were provided reading material on the road safety. They
were trained in a manner that they further can train the new learners
of vehicles.
145. 21.06.2019 Fourth batch of 2nd road safety summer camp 2019 successfully
organized
Chandigarh Traffic Police has organized 2nd road safety summer camp
2019 at Children Traffic Park Sector 23 Chandigarh for school
children during their summer vacations. The 4th batch of road safety
summer camp is being organized from 17/06/2019 to 21/06/2019
which is attended by 59 students. The motive behind organizing the
summer camps to sensitize future drivers about road safety. One the
first day of summer camp i.e. 17th June 2019, introductory session
about the road safety was conducted and training about traffic rules
was given by Ms. Sita Devi, DSP Traffic R&D. Activities like be seen,
be safe, reflective colour during night driving, road safety games were
conducted and detailed information of road signs also given.
On the second day i.e. 18th June 2019, tips on road safe
cycling were given to school children. A traffic drill was conducted by
traffic cops as well as they were explained about pedestrian crossing,
use of footpath. School children visited to sector 16/17 light point for
physical training regarding zebra crossing and manual traffic control
the school children were also guided about pedestrian lights and
traffic drill. A session on the roads safety tips and eye testing camp
was taken by Sh. Satish Bhaskar and a lecture on the road safety was
delivered by l/ C CTP SI Ashok Kumar. School Children were also
guided about safety riding gears by Honda Representative.
On the third day i.e. 19“June 2019, a road sign matching game
was conducted for the school children. A talk by Dimpy and Dr.
Mirgind from dietitian team of the IVY Hospital Sector 71, Mohali on
the health tips was also given. The road safety session and the moral
value conducted by Sh. Jagdish Diwan and Sh. Kulmeet Sodhi traffic
marshal.
On the fourth day i.e. 20th june 2019, the student visited to
traffic line, sector 29 Chandigarh information regarding functioning
of CCTV cameras and Challaning Branch and social media cell imparted
to them. A session on safety riding theory was also conducted by
Honda Officials. Road Safety session by Sh. Kulmeet Sodhi Traffic
Marshal.
Today i.e. 21 June 2019, on the concluding day the 4th batch
of 59 children were educated during road safety session by Dr.
Santosh Gupta traffic marshal. Road safety test was held between
the participants. Sh. Vineet Kumar IPS, SP/Traffic was the chief
guest and encouraged the students to follow traffic rule and be a
traffic ambassador. Awards were given to children who were best in
discipline and more initiative and 1st, 2nd and 3rd in road safety test.

146. 23.06.2019 Action against Drunken Driving
Chandigarh Traffic Police is regularly conducting special drives
against drunken driving in the city. During this weekend (21-23
June), Chandigarh Traffic Police has booked 134 persons for
the violation of Drunken Driving. Further, during this year upto
23.06.2019, 2469 challans have been issued for the violation
of drunken driving.
147. 27 & 28.06.2019 Road Safety Summer Camp by Traffic Police
In order to raise the level of road safety amongst school
children, Chandigarh Traffic Police has organized Road Safety
Summer Camp, free of cost, for the students of standards 7th
to 12th at Children Traffic Park, Sector 23, Chandigarh during
this summer vacations. The motive behind organizing the
summer camp is to sensitize future drivers about road safety. During this Camp, different types of interesting road
safety awareness activities have been organized for school
children and at the end of the Camp, the participating students
have been given certificate of accomplishment by Chandigarh
Traffic Police. The Camp has been organized from 27th May,
2019 to 28th June, 2019 in five batches. Today i.e. 28.6.2019, the fifth batch of Road Safety
Summer Camp for School Children was concluded at Children
Traffic Park, Sector 23, Chandigarh, in which 75 children of
different school participated. The camp was organized from
24.6.2019 to 28.6.2019. On the first day of summer camp, introductory session
about the road safety was conducted and training about traffic
rules was given. Activities like be seen, be safe, wear reflective
color clothes during night driving, road safety games were
conducted and detailed information of road signs also given. On the second day, tips on road safe cycling were given
to school children. A traffic drill was conducted by traffic cops
as well as they were explained about pedestrian crossing, use of
footpath. School children visited to Pedestrian Pelican Lights at
Sukhna Lake for physical training regarding zebra crossing and
manual traffic control. The school children were also guided
about pedestrian lights and traffic drill. A session on the roads
safety tips and eye testing camp was taken by Sh. Satish
Bhaskar. A lecture on the road safety was delivered by
Incharge, CTP. School children were also guided about safety
riding gears by Honda Representative. On the third day, a road sign matching game was
conducted for the school children. Cycling activities were
conducted by Honda officials. The road safety session and the
moral value conducted by Sh. Jagdish Diwan, Traffic Marshal. On the fourth day, the student visited to Traffic Line,
Sector 29 Chandigarh information regarding the functioning of
CCTV Cameras and Challaning Branch and Social Media Cell
imparted to them. A session on safety riding theory was also
conducted by Honda officials. A talk by Dr. Samya and Dietitian
Team of the IVY Hospital sector 71, Mohali on the health tips
was also given. Road safety session by Sh. Kulmeet Sodhi
Traffic Marshal. On the fifth day, a quiz on Road Safety was held and
children who gave maximum correct answer were awarded.
Awards were given to children who were best in discipline &
more interactive. Smt. Sita Devi DSP, Traffic R&D was the
chief guest and encouraged the students to follow traffic rule
and be a traffic ambassador. All the prize winners and
participant were awarded with certificates and trophies for
their future encouragements. During this summer camp, total 310 children of different
schools participated in this Road Safety Summer Camp. It is
pertinent to mention here that approx. 190 students of
different schools participated in the last year Road Safety
Summer Camp.
148. 19.07.2019 Special drive against traffic violations by school buses, school vans
On 19.07.2019 Chandigarh Traffic Police conducted a special drive
against traffic violations by school buses, school vans and autos. Total
06 nakas were laid at prominent locations as part of drive, wherein
total 159 challans were issued for violations of traffic and STRAPS,
one school van was impounded, 45 TSR, 23 Taxies were prosecuted
during drive, also 31 challans were issued to riders without helmet and
12 other misc challans were issued. Further, this special drive will be
continue against school buses, vans and autos to curb the violations of
traffic and STRAPS as well.
149. 20.07.2019 Workshop on Critical Care for Police Personnel
Department of Anaesthesia And Intensive Care PGIMER,
Chandigarh organised a two days CME cum workshop on Critical care
in Trauma on 20- 21st July 2019 involving all the stake holders i.e the
police, the NGOs, department of orthopaedics, department of
neurosurgery and the hospital administration. The main highlight of
the first day was the interdisciplinary workshop to fast track the pre-
hospital transfer & On site care of a trauma victim. It was attended
by more than 40 personnel from Chandigarh traffic police, around 30
medical students, representatives from Arrive Safe (NGO) and Save
Life (NGO) . DSP Traffic (Road safety) Mr Jaswinder Singh
emphasized the need for such events as in India it is not the EMS but
the police men who are the first responders after a road traffic
accident. Mr Harman Singh Sidhu founder of NGO Arrive Safe and
Prof Kajal Jain from the department of anaesthesia enumerated the
importance of “golden hour”. Mr Navdeep Asija traffic advisor for the
state of Punjab emphasized the need to use IT technology for road
safety.
Dr Tanvir Samra, Dr Amarjyoti and Dr Shyam conducted
hands on training on immobilization, log rolling, helmet removal,
management of airway and chest compressions of a trauma victim.
The hands on training was pre-briefed by the A,B,C,D,E method of
primary survey which was modified keeping in view the Indian scenario.
The CME concluded with further plans to develop an indigenous trauma
care module catering to the specific needs of our country for pre-

150. 23.07.2019 Special drive against traffic violations by school buses, school vans
and autos
On 23.07.2019 Chandigarh Traffic Police conducted a special
drive against traffic violations by school buses, school vans and autos.
Total 04 nakas were laid at prominent locations as part of drive,
wherein total 96 challans were issued for violations of traffic and
STRAPS, 39 school bus/van challaned and one school bus was
impounded, 15 TSR, 14 Taxies were prosecuted during drive, also 15
challans were issued to riders without helmet and 13 other misc
challans were issued. Further, this special drive will be continue
against school buses, vans and autos to curb the violations of traffic
and STRAPS as well.
151. 06.08.2019 Traffic awareness drive
Today, saplings of various plants distributed free of cost to the
general public came to pay their traffic violation challans in Challaning
Branch, Traffic Lines, Sector-29, Chandigarh with a written request
to plant the saplings in or around their houses by taking an oath that
they will not violate any traffic rules and also aware their known's
regarding road safety. 152. 08.08.2019 Traffic awareness Drive
On 08.08.2019, Chandigarh Traffic Police distributed saplings of
various plants free of cost to the general public came to compound
their traffic violation challan in Challaning Branch, Traffic Lines,
Sector-29, Chandigarh with a written request to plant the saplings in

Capacity Building Program on Road Accident Investigation and data
collection for Police Officers
A three days Capacity Building Program on Road Accident
Investigation and data collection for Police Officers of Chandigarh
Police was conducted at Recruitment Training Centre, Police Line
Sector 26, Chandigarh from 22nd-24th August, 2019. The program was
conducted by SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufactures),
New Delhi associated with JP Research. Total 25 Police Officers
including Inspector, Sub Inspector, Head Constable and constables
from Police Stations, Road Crash Analysis Cell and Recruitment
Training Centre attend this theoretical & practical training program.

awarded the certificate to the participants. Trophies were also
awarded to whom stood the 1st, 2nd & 3rd position in test. During the
valedictory session, vote of thanks by Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS,

154. 28.08.2019 TRAFFIC OFFICIALS AWARDED FOR GOOD WORK
On 27.08.2019 (Tuesday) at about 5.30PM, while traffic officials
namely HC Harbhajan Singh No.233/CP alongwith C. Pardeep
No.4920/CP & Vol. Satnam No.865/HGV were performing traffic
regulation duty at Mataur Chowk (Sector 43/44/51/52), HC
Harbhajan saw a swift car bearing registration No. DL-8CH-5481
coming from Sector-52 side as his driver was using mobile phone while
driving. The said head constable try to stop but driver of swift car try
to hit Head Constable and ran away. HC Harbhajan immediately gave
wireless message to next traffic point officials to stop the alleged
car. Traffic officials namely HC Harmeet Singh No.3474/CP,
C.Jatinder No.4929/CP & C.Parmod No.6290/IRB deployed at next
traffic point stopped the traffic coming from Mataur Chowk and
chased the alleged car at Light Point Sector 44/45 and during search
of car they found a country made pistol. The car driver was identified
namely Amandeep Singh S/o Sahib Singh R/o village Shutrana District
Patiala (Punjab). The traffic officials called at Police Control Room to
send local police for further action and accordingly after verifying the
facts a case FIR No. 219 U/S 25,54,59 Arms Act PS-34, Chandigarh
dated 27.08.2019 has been registered against the alleged car driver.
Today i.e. on 28.08.2019, the above act of traffic officials HC
Harbhajan Singh No.233/CP along with C.Pardeep No.4920/CP,
Vol.Satnam No.865/HGV, HC Harmeet Singh No.3474/CP, C.Jatinder
No.4929/CP & C.Parmod No.6290/IRB was appreciated and Sh. Omvir
Singh Bishnoi, IPS, W/DIG UT Chandigarh awarded all above traffic
officials for their good work.
155. 04.09.2019 Green Corridor to an Ambulance
On 4.9.2019, at around 12 noon, a green corridor to an ambulance of
PGIMER for transportation of live human organ (lever) was provided
by Chandigarh Traffic Police from PGIMER, Sector 12 to Chandigarh
Airport for it‟s onwards transportation to Jaipur. During the above
said movement, clear passage was provided to the ambulance and in 18
minutes sharp the ambulance reached the Airport. We thank the
drivers from the General Public who gave way to this emergency
vehicle today.
Further, it is pertinent to mention here that in the last five years,
Chandigarh Traffic Police has provided green corridor on 31 occasions.
Further, as per Section 194E of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which
is reproduced as under:-
Whoever while driving a motor vehicle fails to draw to the side of
the road, on the approach of a fire service vehicle or of an
ambulance or other emergency vehicle as may be specified by the
State Government, shall be punishable with imprisonment for a
term which may extend to six months, or with a fine of ten
thousand rupees or with both.
General public is requested to always give way to the emergency
vehicles while driving vehicle.
156. 06.09.2019 Scooterist awarded for wearing safety helment by child as pillion
rider
A picture has been received on the social media account of Chandigarh
Police regarding wearing of safety helmet by a child sitting behind his
father on scooter No. CH01BU-5368. The above said picture
motivates other motorists to buy safety helmet for the safety of
their children. For the above said motivated initiative, Sh. V. Israel
R/o House No. 321, PWT, Mani Majra, Chandigarh alongwith his son
have been awarded.
General public is requested to always obey traffic rules and
regulations and motivate their children to wear safety helmet while
riding on two-wheeler for the safety of their children.
157. 22.09.2019 “Car Free Day” is observed on 22nd September worldwide with an aim
to make people realize that life is possible without dependence on
cars, side by side leading to good health and peer bonding.
Today i.e. 22-09-2019, Chandigarh Police in association with
Cyclegiri group and other various cycling/run clubs has been organized
a cyclothon/walkathon/Run/skaters at Plaza, Sector 17, Chandigarh to
promote car pool, cycling and use of public transport in the city. The
aim of this event was to build a better, healthier, connected
community by encouraging the city residents and students to ride for
short distances and experience the city beautiful together in a way
that‟s just not possible in a car. This not only helped them to avoid air
pollution, noise pollution and traffic congestions but also promoted
improvement of mass transit, cycling and walking.
Around 3000 participants from different walks of life
participated in this event as cyclists, Runners, Walker, Skaters, with
few e-rickshaw provided by Hero Cycle on Sunday morning at 7 am at
Plaza sec 17 to observe world car free day.
The cycle rally was flagged off by Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS,
Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh Mr. Gurpreet Singh
Ghuggi, Great Comedian & Actor and Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP
Traffic & Security which passed through various sectors i.e. Plaza
sector 17 to 16/17 light point, left towards 16/17/22/23 chowk, left
Bus Stand Chowk (17/18/21/22 Chowk), left Press light
point(8/9/17/18 Chowk), left matka chowk, left 16/17 light point and
finally ended at plaza Sector 17. Sh. Uma Shankar Gupta, PCS,
Transport Director was the guest of honor at this event. During this
event, Mr. Vikas, Corporate Manager, HDFC Bank was also present.
Apart from the above cultural programme zumba and many
other activities were organized. This event witnessed overwhelming
response.
158. 18.11.2019 Chandigarh Traffic Police conducted a Painting Competition
programme for school children
On, 18.11.2019, Chandigarh Traffic Police conducted a Painting
Competition programme for school children of govt and private schools
at St. John School, Sector-26, Chandigarh, as part of activities of
Chandigarh Police week-2019. Smt. Lippi Parida was the Chief Guest of
this function and Smt. Arpana Beniwal and Smt. Kiran Bishnoi were
guests of honor at the function who gave away the prizes to winners
and consolation prizes. Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP/Traffic &
Security, Smt. Vasundhra Dalal Anand, Sh. Charanjit Singh, DSP/East,
Sh. Kewel Krishan, DSP/Traffic Admn, Inspector Shri Parkash, Admn
Traffic and traffic marshals were present during this function. About
300-350 children of senior and junior division from 32 schools
participated in the painting competition. From senior division Ms.
Deepshikha of GMSSS, Sector-39, Chandigarh got 1st prize, 2nd prize
won by Ms. Riddhi of Mount Carmel School, Sector-47, Chandigarh
and 3rd prize won by Ms. Reena Devi of GMSSS, Sector-39,
Chandigarh. Similarly, from junior division Ms Jastej Kaur of AKSIPS,
Sector-45, Chandigarh won 1st prize, 2nd prize won by Ms Ritisha of
Mount Carmel School Sector-47 and the 3rd prize won by Ms Esha of
Carmel Convent School, Sector-9, Chandigarh.
159. 01.01.2020 Chandigarh Traffic Police is regularly conducting special drives against
drunken driving and Speeding in the city. On the eve of New Year-
2020, Chandigarh Traffic Police booked 153 persons for the violation
of Drunken Driving an in the city. Further, during the year 2019,
4589 challans have been issued for the violation of drunken driving
and 8837 challans have been issued for the volition of Speeding in the
city. 160. 15.01.2020 Chandigarh Traffic Police is observing 31st
National Road Safety Week 2020 with theme “Bringing Change
through youth power” from 11th Jan to 17th Jan 2020. Today many
events & programme were organized as a part of Road Safety Week to
aware general public on road safety:-
1. On 15th January 2020, as a part of 31st National Road Safety
Week 2020, a workshop on Road safety and Traffic Awareness
was conducted at GGDSD College Chandigarh. Chief Guest at the
event was Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP, Traffic & Security.
Other guests of honour were WG CDR C.S. Grewal (Retd.) Chief
Traffic Marshall, Sh. Charanjit Singh Virk, DSP, Chandigarh
Traffic Police , Sh. Neeraj Sarna, Inspector, Mrs. Uma Mahajan,
Traffic Marshal.
Sh. Shashank Anand guided the students about traffic rules;
road safety and how unknown variables on road must be avoided by
own self and not wait for others to be correct. He also guided how
pedestrians should be alert on road to prevent chain snatching and
kidnapping. ASI Bhupinder Singh enthralled the students by
singing songs on awareness of traffic rules and regulations. There
were around 200 students of the college who attended the
workshop. WG CDR Grewal appraised the students of the rules
and regulations pertaining to Driving License and seat belt, Road
signs and drunken driving. More emphasis was laid on educating
students at the college level as they are the major road users. A
quiz contest was held at the end where the students answered
questions correctly and were given mementos by the team of
Chandigarh Traffic Police. Dr. Balraj Thapar, principal of the
college, along with NSS P.O.s Dr. Mani Parti and Dr. Mahak Sharma
gave a floral welcome to the guests and thanked them for
conducting such a wonderful interactive session.
2. Besides this, a traffic awareness workshop was conducted at
National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE) PGIMER Sector
12 Chd. A total of aprox. 350 students and 8 Faculty members
were educated. Dr. Karobi Dass Principal NINE along with Dr.
Sunita Sharma, Ms. Meenakshi Agnihotri, Ms. Shabana Parveen,
Dr. Ashok and Traffic Marshals Advocate Rajiv Sharma & Ms.
Yashoda Dobhal spoke on Road Safety. Shri Jaswinder Singh DSP
was the guest of honor. A Road Safety skit and Gidha was also
performed by the students.
3. Apart from above, a traffic awareness rally cum Nukkad Natak
was conducted at Sukhna Lake to aware importance of road safety
among general public. Students and 8 Faculty member from
PGIMER sensitized general public. Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP
Security & Traffic was the Chief Guest at the function. Dr. Karobi
Dass Principal NINE along with Dr. Sunita Sharma, Ms. Meenakshi
Agnihotri, Ms. Shabana Parveen, Dr. Ashok and Traffic Marshals
Advocate Rajiv Sharma & Ms. Yashoda Dobhal spoke on Road
Safety. Shri Jaswinder Singh, DSP, Shri Kewal Krishan, DSP, Shri
Charanjit Singh, DSP was the guest of honor.
4. A helmet rally on two wheelers to motivate girls for wearing
safety helmets was flagged off by Smt. Raj Bala, Mayor, UT,
Chandigarh from CTP, Sector 23, Chandigarh which moved towards
sector 24, PU campus, PGI Chowk, Matka Chowk, Cricket Stadium
Chowk and finished at CTP, Sector 23, Chandigarh. Approx. 250
students from GCG-42, Dev Samaj College-36, Govt. Commerce
College-50 participated in this rally. Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS,
SSP Security & Traffic, Shri Jaswinder Singh, DSP, Shri Kewal
Krishan, DSP, Shri Charanjit Singh, DSP along with CTP staff,
Traffic Marshalls Salil Bali, Vishal Kapoor & Gurnam Singh were
present on occasion. Divyang from Rotary Club also participated in
this rally to aware the public.
Chandigarh Traffic Police also organized a workshop/Training on First
Aid in Lecture Hall, RTC, Police Lines, Sector-26 Chandigarh for
Traffic and PCR Police personnel being first respondents on city
roads. Faculty of Police Hospital imparted training on First Aid to be
provided before medical aid i.e during bleeding, fracture, snake bite
and CPR etc. 20 PCR and 20 Traffic Police Officials including 35
trainees of upper school course attended the First Aid Training in
Lecture Hall, Police Lines, Sector-26, Chandigarh. 161. 17.01.2020 Chandigarh Traffic Police observed „31st National Road Safety
Week 2020‟ with theme “Bringing Change through youth power” from
11th Jan to 17th Jan 2020. Today on concluding day many events &
programme were organized as a part of Road Safety Week to
aware/sensitize general public on road safety:-
1. A Multi Speciality Free Health Checkup and Blood Donation camp
was organized by Chandigarh Traffic Police in Police Hospital,
Sec.26, Chandigarh. This activity was organized mainly for Drivers
of CTU, PRTC, Haryana & Punjab Roadways Buses, Truck Drivers,
Ola, Uber and Auto Drivers, and Chandigarh police personnel. This
initiative was taken by Sh. Shashank Anad, IPS, SSP/Security &
Traffic This camp was organized by Ms. Harjeet Kaur, DSP/Traffic
and her team and Dr. Pushpinder Mangat, SMO I/c Police Hospital,
Sec.26, Chandigarh and her team with the collaboration of Blood
Bank PGI, Chandigarh, GMSH-16, Chandigarh, Paras Hospital and
Grewal Eye Hospital. Interactive lecture was delivered by Dr.
Sanjay Khanna, MS, ENT from Paras Hospital. Dr. Gagandip Singh,
MD, DM (PGI) from Paras Hospital delivered a lecture on Cardiology
(Heart Disease and Prevention). The camp was attended by Dr.
Pushpinder Mangat, SMO, Police Hospital, Sec.26, Chandigarh,
DSP/Lines, Insp. Neeraj Sarna, all Medical Officers, Para Medical
Staff of Police Hospital. Total 232 patients availed of the medical
facility and 61 police personnel donated blood for road accident
victims. HIV, HB, RPR, HbsAG lab tests were carried out. Mementos
were presented to the all doctors of Paras Hospital by Chief Guest
Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP Security and Traffic, UT.,
Chandigarh.
2. Today, Chandigarh Traffic Police organized a drive to affixing
reflective tapes on Cycles, Rickshaws/Rehri and distributing
jackets & hand gloves at Major intersections like Grain Market
Chowk, Chandigarh etc. During drive about 700 reflectors were
affixed, 150 hand gloves and 250 safety reflective jackets were
distributed to the cyclists and Rickshaw/Rehri pullers and they
were also aware about the road safety and use of cycle tracks. Sh
Shashank Anand IPS, SSP/Traffic & Security along with staff
distributed the jackets, hand gloves and affixed reflective tapes on
cycles/rickshaws etc.
3. Today, Chandigarh Traffic Police organized a Declamation Contest
in Auditorium of Government College, Sector-42, Chandigarh
followed by a Road Safety song by school children and skit by
Traffic Marshals. Declamation Contest was organized on the theme
that “Do high penalties of traffic violations, act as deterrent
enough” as part of 31st National Road Safety Week-2020 being
observed from 11th to 17th Jan 2020. Total 21 students of schools
and 26 students of colleges spoke in favor and against motion.
About 400 students of various schools, colleges, Traffic Marshals
and Senior Officers of Chandigarh Police attended the function.
Sh. Vinod P. Kavle, Special Secretary Home, Chandigarh
Administration invited as Chief Guest at the function, who gave
away the winner trophies and certificates.
4. Also, a Painting Competition of 100 Anganwari children organized in
Bapu Dham Colony, Sector-26, Chandigarh under Urjja Project of
Chandigarh Police as part of Road Safety Week-2020. Sh. Shashank
Anand, IPS W/SSP/Security & Traffic, UT, Chandigarh gave away
the prizes to winners and participation certificates to the children.
