ISTITUTO COMPRENSIVO R. MONTANO, STIGLIANO. ITALY
In the past, every small and remote village had a traditional costume , in which the community is recognized and sanctioned by which social differences within it.
It was through clothing "that the gentleman was distinguished by the ignoramus ; but it was just the kind of clothing that gave the people, the peasant or t the gentleman the immediate perception of him as the others, but not to be a block of belonging to a larger group and determined the social scale : clothing so it was a real language .
“This was worth especially for the men , " conversely, women's clothing not identified themselves so directly with socio- economic or political symbols : an obvious consequence , in this case, the total exclusion of Lucan women , whatever their social level , from any form of public activity and from any kind of political interest .
This is the traditional custume that Stigliano’s people used up to 30 years .There was two versions about this costume: one that women used it daily and other one that they used during special days e.g. in the wedding day.
