UGANDA-UK INVESTMENT SUMMIT20212

WELCOME

We are very pleased to bring to London once again The Uganda-UK Trade and Investment Convention, an annual convention connecting ambitious British and Ugandan fi rms looking to explore new investment opportunities in Uganda.

Uganda has been consistently drawing the highest FDI in East Africa, attracting between $250 – 300 million in FDI annually between 2010 and 2016 – largely due to its stable and consistent macro-economic policies, liberalized business environment, proximity as a logistics hub within the Great Lakes region and increased regional trade. British investors were particularly active, with 10 project commitments, followed by Dutch companies.

The forum brings together experts, high profi le business and government delegates from Uganda and UK, business leaders, Ugandans in the Diaspora, professionals and representatives from prominent organisations based in Uganda, the UK and beyond. Delegates have access to up-to-date information on the vast potential for investment that Uganda off ers to both the domestic and international community. They can acquire business tips, obtain relevant literature on priority sectors for investment, take part in an interactive Q & A session and hear about the realities of doing business in Uganda.

Our partner Bridge India will facilitate a special session on India-Uganda on “Unlocking East-Africa and India Cooperation Potential”, where we expect potential investors from the East African Indian diaspora, as well as Indian business leaders and MPs.

We are also bringing back a special session on Fintech which was overwhelmingly successful last year. A dedicated focus on Fintech with the aim of increasing inward investment to Uganda within this booming sector.

Uganda has undergone major economic transformation and is an attractive market for global investors and businesses. Uganda emerged in the IMF top 10 fastest growing economies for 2019 and an exciting emerging market in which to invest .With a population of about 38 million people, GDP Growth of 5.8%, coupled with Pivotal Regional Trade partnerships: East African Community (5 member states), Great Lakes (4 member states), COMESA (19 member states) - exporters have access to this critical market of 489 million, making Uganda a market not to be over-looked.

We look forward to seeing you at the 10th UCUK in London from 10-11 September 2021.

Willy MutenzaChairman and Founcer UCUKManaging Director, the Pronota Africa Ltd.

Uganda in a Nutshell

Uganda enjoys a unique location along the equator, in the heart of Sub-Saharan Africa within the East African region.

Its landscape encompasses the snowcapped Rwenzori Mountains, Lake Victoria – the largest fresh water body in the world, the western escarpments of the Great Rift Valley and it is home to the source of the Nile, which is the only river in the world that flows north. Uganda also has unique Flora and Fauna, a modified equatorial climate with warm temperatures all year round.

Uganda is bordered by South Sudan in the north, Kenya in the east, the United Republic of Tanzania in the south, Rwanda in the southwest and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the west. This land linked position, gives Uganda a strategic commanding base for regional trade and investment.

The people in Uganda are the most friendly and the most highly entrepreneurial community you are set to come across within the next decade. The economy also offers high returns on investment thus making Uganda your preferred investment destination.

Incentives for Investors

Uganda has been consistently attracting the highest foreign direct investment (FDI) in EastAfrica by attracting between $250 – 300 million in FDI annually between 2010 and 2016– largely due to its stable and consistent macro-economic policies, liberalized businessenvironment, proximity as a logistics hub within the Great Lakes region and increased regionaltrade.

Most FDI into Uganda has been directed towards telecommunications, real estate, banking, insurance, petroleum sector, energy, mining and agro-export sectors.

The Government has continued to promote foreign investment through the Uganda InvestmentAuthority, the Presidential Investors Round Table and by minimizing macroeconomic policyshifts, which make doing business in Uganda more predictable than in neighbouring countries.

Uganda has a friendly investment policy framework aimed at attracting investments in thevarious aforementioned sectors.

One of these policies is the provision of tax incentives toinvestors.

This incentive regime is structurally embedded in the country’s tax laws making them nondiscriminatoryand accessible to both domestic and foreign investment depending on the sectorand level of investment.

It is assumed that this tax incentive regime will spur investments withinthe economy and in so doing contribute to the achievement of Uganda’s Vision 2040 whoseaspirations are to transform Uganda from a predominantly low income country to an uppermiddle income country within 30 years.Realizing that knowledge of the existing tax incentives by prospective local and foreign investorsencourages many to take advantage of these incentives and invest in the country; UgandaRevenue Authority is pleased to introduce this Tax Incentives Guide for Investors in Uganda.

For furtherinquiries, investors are encouraged to contact the Assistant Commissioner Trade, CustomsDepartment and the Assistant Commissioner Business Policy, Domestic Taxes Department.Developing Uganda Together.
