Trabuco Hills High School Instrumental MusicJazz Ensemble Auditions for 2015-2016 School Year

The Jazz Ensemble will be holding auditions in June for next year.The instrumentation for the Jazz Ensemble will be: 2 Alto Saxophones2 Tenor Saxophones1 Bari Saxophone5 Trumpets4 Trombones1 Bass Trombone1 Guitar1 Piano1 Bass 1 DrummerPossible additions: 1 percussionist and 1 vibraphone player

In the event there is enough interest and musicians to warrant a second ensemble, we will take that into consideration.

For the audition, all musicians will be required to sight-read. All musicians minus the percussionists will perform the provided jazz chart, Impressions. You will play through the head (written melody) one time, and then solo over the changes, concert D-7 and E-7 (D and E Dorian modes). For the percussionists, you will demonstrate the following styles on the drum set: Swing, Samba/Latin, Shuffle. For your solo, you will play 32 bars, alternating between keeping time and soloing, four bars for each. The style will be swing.

Mr. Julian and his coaches will come into your classes in June to listen to you play. Please have Impressions prepared by that point. We look forward to hearing you perform!
