Arts Club
for youth, ages 6-12 with disabilities

Do you like designing things? This class is for you!
During this exciting 6 week arts class,
participants will have the opportunity to utilize
many different art techniques including working
with plaster bandages, brushes and paints!
School’s Out Club for Youth- Spring Break
for kids, ages 6-12, with disabilities

April 1-5th(Monday-Friday)
8:30 am-4:30 pm
$35 per date or $150 for entire week
Come spend your spring break having fun and
learning new games with your friends! All
of these activities are used to promote peer
interaction and appropriate social skills,
physical activity, and independence.

Adaptive Fencing
for teens and young adults, ages 13-35, with
disabilities

April 29 - May 20, 2013 (Mondays)
6:00pm – 7:00pm
$45.00 – Includes use of all equipment needed
Fencing is beneficial to our health as it offers
participants a physical and mental workout.
Referred to as “physical chess,” fencing improves
dexterity, endurance and discipline. Participants
will develop a sense of self-worth as individuals
and team players as they learn basic moves and
skills.

for pre-school and youth, ages 3-8, with disabilities.

Cost: For new participants: $75 (includes karate
uniform)
For returning participants: $60
This program is geared to introduce karate to
children and incorporate appropriate training for
their age and abilities. Participants will work on
listening, cooperation, balance, safety and beginner
karate skills while being challenged and encouraged
to succeed.
Paralympic Tandem Cycling For youth (age 8+) and adults with a visual
impairment

$25.00
Have fun cycling while learning the basics of tandem
cycling and the roles of the “captain” and “stoker”
positions. Equipment provided. No experience
needed. This program is part of Paralympic Sport
Metrolina.

Teaching great cooking…one Saturday at a time!
Join us for instructional cooking classes with a
"side order" of fun and conversation! Each 1-day
class has a different focus - in addition to learning
or improving basic cooking skills, participants will
learn about kitchen safety and hygiene; making
healthy food choices; and proper food handling and
storage practices.

Spill Your Beans for young women with disabilities ages 16 and up

Welcome to a super-charged ladies night! Spill
Your Beans provides the opportunity for young
women to talk about and gain support for issues
they’re facing in their lives, such as health &
safety, independent living, relationships,
friendships, and self-esteem (participants will
have the opportunity to choose the topics to learn
about). Each month we will host a guest speaker
or lead a discussion about issues that are
important to you.
Band of Brothers for young men with disabilities ages 18-35
Marion Diehl Recreation Center

$10.00 per meeting
Do you need a night out with the guys to relax
and enjoy new activities? Come hang out with
"Band of Brothers" every Tuesday night from
6-8pm. You can practice social skills, meet new
people, enjoy community outings and develop
positive relationships, all while enjoying some
"guy time".
Fuel for Life
for young men with disabilities ages 16 and up

Come hang out with the guys, fuel your body
with a good dinner, and fuel your life with good
conversation. Fuel for Life provides the
opportunity for young men to talk about and gain
support for issues they’re facing in their lives.
Each month we will host guest speakers and
discuss different topics, such as employment
and job skills, relationships, life goals and
values, and other topics that are important
to you.
Just Dance
for teens and young adults with disabilities, ages13-35

April 11th– May 16th (Thursdays)
5:00pm-5:45pm
$50 for six week program
So YOU think YOU can dance?? Come out and show
your moves with the NEW Just Dance Program. Just
Dance will provide individuals the opportunity to learn
the basic foundational moves of hip hop dancing along
with plenty of free style and fun!

“Summit” Parent/Caregiver Group Amelie’s Bakery and Café (in NoDa),

April 9th (Tuesday)
7:00 – 8:00 p.m.
FREE
A monthly group for parents, guardians, and
caregivers that is facilitated by a Therapeutic
Recreation staff person but is directed by the group
members. This FREE informal group gives
participants the opportunity to meet and talk with other
parents and caregivers who are experiencing the
challenges of parenting a child, teen or young adult
with a disability.

historical, educational and recreational attractions in
