This brochure brings together all our latest dynamic new ranges, combined with many of our best sellers and your old favourites in one unique entirely LED publication.

The last 12 months has seen many changes at tp24 and represents a big shift in focus to all LED fittings. LEDs have been commonplace in our lives for some time, but LED domestic lighting had been lagging behind a little. Now LED lamp technology has improved significantly and there

are some amazing products offering excellent light levels and unbelievable energy saving. Look through this new brochure and you will have to agree LEDs have truly arrived.

At tp24 our designers have been very busy creating a number of unique solutions to maximise the benefits of LED lighting. With an increasing range of retrofit LED bulbs we can now replace most halogen and incandescent light bulbs with a selection of energy efficient LED replacements. Our LEDs offer full instant brightness (no warm up delay), long lifetimes, and wide beam angles and are covered by our two year warranty (when you register your LED bulb online).

For our LED fixture ranges we have introduced several new platforms (G40, LiveRod, L1X) that enable our designers to utilise LED more effectively, and develop some fantastic, unique, stylish and futuristic solutions with increased performance. We have also updated many of the popular older models to incorporate LED lamps.

All our products feature replaceable and upgradeable LED lamps complete with our excellent end user warranty. They are not just stylish, they light the room as brightly as any conventional lighting, providing a serious energy saving option for every room and every situation.

Having already introduced an additional 60 lines this year, we continue to grow our LED offering in all areas. Watch out for new additions to our ranges, in particular the development of our LiveRod system that will enable everyone to design and build their own bespoke LED light fittings.

InnovationAt tp24 we don’t invent new systems for the sake of it - we strive to make LED fittings that are energy efficient, affordable, desirable and upgradeable in the future. Our LiveRod system allows you to design and build your own LED fittings, our G40 system allows you to have slimline LED fittings that are still upgradeable and replaceable in the future and our L1X platform is an unobtrusive solution for delicate crystal and glass light fittings.

We believe all light fittings should be designed from the light source outward, so we’ve put our efforts into developing the smallest and brightest LED light bulbs that give us the flexibility to deliver beautiful, affordable energy saving lighting for everyone. G40n (jē-fôrtē)

1. Voted ‘Best Energy Saving Design 2013’ at the Interiors Exhibition 2013, G40 is a slim, refined solution enabling us to design slim, streamlined LED flush fittings with push-fit square or round replaceable LED bulbs. The G40 collections consist of LED ceiling, wall and desk lights in addition to LED bathroom mirrors with shaving sockets.

L1Xn (el-wun-eks)

1. A small ‘pygmy’ LED bulb, with a removable twist lock cap that’s able to pack sufficient illumination into a small sized capsule. G9 halogens and even G9 LED bulbs can be difficult to install and remove but the twist lock action of L1X solves this problem and allows the fitting of an IP44 seal to make some glamorous tp24 crystal fittings suitable for use in the bathroom.

Dictionary

LiveRodn (līv-räd)

1. A globally patented, revolutionary lighting system designed by tp24 LED lighting. LiveRod is a wire free rod system that allows users to design and build their own light fittings using screw on components. LiveRod also facilitates the need to change one LiveRod fitting with another without the need to rewire whatsoever. Users can customise off the shelf LiveRod fittings by adding additional rods to increase the drop and/or the diameter of the fitting.

With slim pencil like LED bulbs, the fittings offer futuristic and stylish domestic lighting that is incredibly cheap to run.

Watch out for further head and body options that will allow you to build layers as well as a range of decorative accessories to further customise your fitting. If you have specific requirements, tp24 are able to offer bespoke solutions and commissions for individual projects.

tp24 LiveRodHave you ever dreamt of designing your own lighting? Well now you can. LiveRod is a revolutionary lighting platform developed by tp24 to deliver flat-pack LED light fittings that you can build yourself, without an electrician and without any electrical knowledge. Why not further customise the height, span or shape of your LiveRod fitting by purchasing additional LiveRod components, see pages 80-81.

LiveRod fittings tend to look more like built-in LED fittings, only without the hassle and waste of throwing away the whole fitting at the end of the product’s life. It’s more eco-friendly and saves paying for an electrician should you need a replacement LED lamp in the future.

tp24 Quick-fit system A special quick-fit system has been designed and patented by tp24 that enables the installer to screw the special HSR ring straight onto the existing threaded ceiling rose. If you don’t have a ceiling rose, not to worry, flip it over and you can screw the HSR straight in. After wiring up, three secure grub screws then affix the light fitting to the HSR ring. Many of our customers are able to install light fittings themselves simply by following the instructions supplied with each fitting. If you are not confident with electrics then always hire an electrician.

tp24 L1 to BC and ES adaptorsNow you can use all tp24 L1 LED bulbs in fittings with B22/BC or E27/ES caps. What’s more, unlike many bulky adaptors on the market, ours has been designed so that the lamp is sunken neatly into the adaptor as much as possible with only a thin collar on the adaptor for a discrete and clean fit that does not greatly alter the height of the bulb.

tp24 G40 systemThe G40 system has been designed to bring you streamlined, replaceable and upgradeable LED. It boasts the benefits of built-in LED fittings only it saves having to throw away the fitting at the end of the bulb’s life and saves you having to buy and install a new fitting, which many people would pay an electrician to do. Who said LED had to be built-in to be streamlined?

tp24 L1X systemA newly designed, shallower collar than a standard L1 bulb means the L1X bulb can be smaller. This enabled our designers to design more delicate, elegant fittings whilst taking advantage of all the money saving benefits of LED. Now, when looking at an L1X fitting the eye is less distracted by the bulb itself, enabling the design of the fitting itself to stand out.

tp24 ‘Switchable’ - an alternative dimming solutionTraditional domestic dimming is very inefficient; dimming a fitting by 50% still uses approximately 80% of the power whilst unnecessarily consuming the ‘bulb life’ of every bulb in the fitting and potentially stressing those bulbs. Dimmable LED bulbs tend to be costly and in order to use them you may need to buy a special LED dimmer switch, which tend to be expensive.

At tp24 we have developed our own solution; ‘switchable’. By incorporating tiered switching into some of our larger multi-arm fittings, you can now enjoy variable mood settings and balanced light reduction with usual LED efficiency. Switchable fittings turn on fully illuminated but can then be switched down by up to four steps (depending on the fitting) so that only certain arms of the fitting become illuminated. By using this method you are only paying to run the bulbs that are actually illuminated, you’re not consuming the life of the turned-off bulbs and you’re benefiting from adjustable brightness settings from LED bulbs that are extremely cheap to run. No additional wiring is necessary and switching is simply operated from a standard wall switch.

tp24 Flat pack shadeThe tp24 flat pack shade comes in a small, pizza style box allowing you to transport your shade undamaged between house moves or for you to take on the bus..What’s more, it’s better for the environment as it reduces transportation costs, making it beneficial to wholesalers and retailers by saving valuable warehouse space which helps to keep the price down.

BATHROOMBATHROOM ZONES

About:IEE Wiring Regulations (17th Edition) have identified certain zones within the bathroom to indicate which type of electrical equipment can be fitted. Lighting deemed suitable to go in these zones are given an Ingress Protection (IP) number, such as IPXY, where X and Y are numbers. The X shows the level of mechanical protection, and the Y shows the level of moisture protection. In both cases, the higher the number, the better the protection. If a piece of equipment does not have an IP number, it must not be used in zones 0, 1 or 2. Outside of the designated zones you can use any standard product (IP20).

The zones are as follows:Zone 0: Inside the bath tub or shower tray. Any fitting going in this area must be low voltage (12v Max) and have an IP rating of at least IP67.

Zone 1: Directly above the bath tub or shower tray to the height of 2.25m from the floor. Products should be IP44 or higher and if the fitting is 240v a 30ma RCD must be used to protect the circuit.

Zone 2: Over the bath tub or shower tray above zone 1. It also covers the area stretching 0.6m outside the perimeter of the bath and to a height of 2.25m from the floor and the area around the wash basin, within a 60cm radius of any tap. Lighting in this area should be at least IP44.

Note: If there is a likelihood of water jets being used in zones 1 or 2, i.e. for cleaning, a fitting rated a minimum of IP65 must be used.

This information should be used for guidance only. Always refer to the current IEE Wiring Regulations or a qualified electrician to ensure that you are guided by the latest codes of practice.

When to use IP20 downlights:Ingress protection (IP) ratings are made up of two numbers which each refer to different types of protection. If a light fitting has an ingress protection of IP20 then it means the fitting is protected against objects equal to and/or greater than 12mm (IP20) but has no protection against water (IP20).

When to use IP20 downlights:IP20 downlights are great for use in kitchens, bedrooms, hallways or living rooms. For finishes other than white you must purchase a chrome or satin silver bezel to push-fit onto your white downlight can.

When not to use IP20 downlights:- Although IP20 downlights can be used in some areas of a bathroom we recommend you select IP65 downlights instead as they offer greater protection against moisture.

- If you want to put a downlight directly above a cooker hob we would also recommend that you choose IP65 downlights.

If a light fitting has an ingress protection of IP65 then it means the fitting is dust/air tight (IP65) and is protected against light jets of water (IP65). It is not protected against powerful water jets, immersion or submersion.

When to use IP65 downlights:IP65 downlights are great for use in bathrooms and certain areas of the kitchen, thanks to their added protection against steam and moisture ingress. They are great for above a shower, bath or cooker hob. Please refer to the bathroom zones information on pages 146-147 for more information on bathroom zones.

Unlike our IP20 downlight cans, our IP65 downlights are sold as complete units so there is no need to purchase an additional coloured bezel since the IP65 bezels are attached directly to a glass face.

When not to use IP65 downlights:- tp24 IP65 downlights are not immersible or submersible so you cannot put them inside the walls of a bath or shower for example. You may mount them on the ceiling above a bath or shower however.

- You should not use tp24 IP65 downlights outside.

DOWNLIGHTS

Planning/spacing...

When working on a new downlight scheme for your new home you need to plan well in advance to ensure you get the right solution that suits your lifestyle. LED downlights offer amazing energy saving and, when well planned, they can meet all your needs.

Recessed downlights are particularly suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, en-suites and corridors. They can be effective in most domestic situations if correctly planned. For areas such as bathrooms and kitchens it is essential to ensure sufficient light levels to be able to complete the task required; for example, in a bathroom there needs to be good light for shaving or applying make-up. For kitchens you need more light for preparation and cooking areas but when only boiling a kettle you only need a local light or possibly some background lighting. Do not limit yourself to rigid layouts and fixed rows. Downlights are very flexible and can be placed where they are needed without upsetting the balance of the room, unlike pendants or flush fittings which are more obvious.

Compliance...

Ensure that your downlights fully comply with Building Regulations and meet the requirements of the Sustainable Code to which you are building to. Downlights that require a penetrating hole between floors and loft spaces must meet requirements for sound transmission and, depending on the planning, must comply with fire regulations and air transmission levels.

Kitchens...

Use multiple switches to zone the area for best use. Firstly, just one down light over the kettle on it own switch, it will be all you need for the short visits between the commercial breaks to make drinks or just to pass through the room. Next link the four corners, or two ends if a long room, to create a light level which can be left on as background for basic tasks or background lighting whilst eating.

Now look at the task areas, do not put the light too far behind where you will stand to work as this will create shadow over the task. We normally recommend that the down lights are positioned 750-800mm from the back of the worktop walls. Put two or three over the preparation area and some over the cooker, again use separate switches and you can create many different moods.Linear spacing depends on the room layout and wattage, but typically 850-1100mm between each light would give very good light levels. If you have island units or are adding more rows, the spacing can be larger as there is a lot of shared light from these secondary areas which will often be on when you are in task mode.

For an island unit or dining table add a specific group to light this area on its own. If you are just dining or doing homework on the table you need some good light, if you are having a dinner party and need mood lighting you can leave these off and use the outer rings to create the atmosphere (and then just have some candles on the table if you are feeling romantic), alternatively use a suspended ceiling fitting over the table or island to make a statement.

For bigger rooms with TV areas or seating, you can consider adding more background or specific reading lights. Consider using just the outer limits so as not to over expose the viewing area. If you need to read and not affect others, use table and floor lamps for these specific tasks and to create other changes in atmosphere.

Corridors...

Bathrooms/en-suites...

For bathrooms put the lights where they are needed most i.e. around the mirror and sink area and just away from the bath so that you do not stare into them when you lay back to soak. You do not need as much light in the bath as you do for the mirror.

For showers, you can get enough light from outside if there are glass sides. If the shower is enclosed, you should fit an IP65 model in the centre. Again you do not have to stick to grid lines.

For corridor areas put the down lights in the centre of the corridor if possible and increase the spacing depending on the width of the corridor. Typically the spacing can be quite a lot greater because this is a transit area and does not require a high light level. In narrow corridors the spacing can be as much as 1500mm, however, do not start more than about

1000mm from the beginning or end of the corridor, think about the position of the doorways and light switches.

Remember:‘Wattage’ refers to a bulb’s power consumption and not the bulb’s brightness. Brightness is measured in Lumens. With that in mind it’s not hard to see how large annual savings can be made by switching 50W halogen bulbs to 3W LED bulbs from tp24.

Running costs:It’s also important to remember that tp24 LED bulbs have a 15,000 hour ‘lamp life’, compared to a typical value of 1000 hours for a halogen spot bulb. What’s more we guarantee our LED bulbs for two years (when you register your bulb’s unique serial number online).

The ‘annual savings’ shown in the table (left) do not take into account the repurchasing cost of the Halogen bulbs as they blow over the course of the year, so your savings could actually be more, depending on your situation.

Dimming:LEDs from tp24 are not currently dimmable. Traditional domestic dimming is very inefficient; dimming a fitting by 50% still uses approximately 80% of the power whilst unnecessarily consuming ‘lamp life’ and potentially stressing your bulbs. Dimmable LED bulbs tend to be costly and, in order to use them, you may need to buy a special LED dimmer switch, which can be extremely expensive. With tp24 LED bulbs, we recommend using a regular 2-way (on/off) switch, or multi-switches with seperate circuits allowing you to control rows of downlights and alter light levels with greater efficiency than traditional dimming.

By using tp24 LED lamps, you can start saving money and energy immediately. All you have to do is take the existing energy-guzzling lamp out and replace it with one of the tp24 super low energy LED equivalents.

Typically, your modern domestic kitchen light fitting uses five 50w halogen spot lamps. If you were to run those five spot lamps for eight hours a day, seven days a week, for an entire year, it would cost £95.37.

‘Watts’ refers to a bulb’s power consumption and not a bulb’s brightness. Brightness is measured in Lumens. So why the confusion? LEDs are very energy efficient, they don’t get anywhere near as hot as regular incandescent or halogen bulbs, plus there’s no warm up time, just full instant light and incredible instant savings too.

Traditional domestic dimming is very inefficient; dimming a fitting by 50% still uses 80% of the power whilst unnecessarily consuming lamp life and potentially stressing your lamps.

Dimmable LED lamps tend to be costly and in order to use them you may need to buy special LED dimmer switches, which are extremely expensive.

At tp24 we have developed our own solution, ‘switchable’. By incorporating switching into some of our larger, multi-arm fittings, you can now enjoy variable mood settings and balanced light reduction with 100% efficiency.

Switchable fittings turn on fully illuminated but can then be switched down by up to four steps (depending on the fitting) so that the fitting becomes partially illuminated and you’re only paying for the electricity you’re actually using. FAQ

Who are tp24?tp24 have been providing a first class service supplying lighting to the new homes market since 2001. Currently we despatch more than 8,000 products per month and are recognised as a leader in the domestic LED lighting market.

What is LED lighting?LED stands for Light Emitting Diode and is a form of “solid-state lighting” (SSL) technology. Instead of emitting light from a vacuum (as in an incandescent bulb) or a gas (as in a CFL), SSL emits light from a piece of solid matter. In the case of a traditional LED that piece of matter is a semiconductor. Stated very simply, an LED produces light when electrons move around within its semiconductor structure. A semiconductor is made up of a positively charged and a negatively charged component. The positive layer has “holes” - openings for electrons; the negative layer has free electrons floating around in it. When an electric charge strikes the semiconductor it activates the flow of electrons from the negative to the positive layer. Those excited electrons emit light as they flow into the positively charged holes. Early LEDs had quite low outputs but recent improvements have allowed for much better performance. You can now find some LED replacement bulbs for candle & spot lamps and even GLS styles equivalent to a 60w incandescent. Rapid improvements in technology will see prices eventually drop and performances consistently improve.

What does “dedicated low energy” mean?Our fittings only accept a low energy lamp designed for use with an L1 light fitting. This means that the low energy lamp cannot be replaced later by an incandescent or normal light bulb which would be 5 times more expensive to run.

What exactly do you mean by “low energy”?Our LED lamps last approximately 10 years and save approximately 90% energy when compared to regular incandescent/halogen lamps. Use our savings calculator on our website to find out how much you can save.

What is voltage?Voltage is the pressure within the circuit that’s generated by the electricity company from the national grid. Different countries use different voltages according to their infrastructure system it’s generally referred to as the electrical potential. In the UK the current used is typically 240 volts, in America 120 volts and in most of Europe and the Far East the current is typically 220 volts. In general different plug sockets are used to ensure people use the correct equipment relevant to their local current. A good analogy is to imagine the pressure behind the flow of electrons in a circuit similar to water pressure in a hose.

What are watts?The wattage of a bulb actually tells you how much electricity it uses, not how much light it produces. With new technology and more efficient lamps, watts are becoming increasingly irrelevant when it comes to light output alone.

What are lumens?Light is measured in lumens. For example, a traditional 60 watt bulb will consume 60 watts of electricity but it provides light in lumens, typically around 700 lumens. An LED bulb might only consume 7 watts of electricity to provide the same level of light. You will see on the packaging of LED bulbs that lumens are now used to describe the light output of a bulb. ‘Lumens per watt’ describes how much light output you are receiving for the amount of electricity you are consuming.

Do I have to wait a long time for the bulbs to reach full brightness?Thankfully not. LED lamps come on instantly at full brightness much like the original incandescent bulbs used to - only without the excessive running costs.

Can I use your LEDs in my home?Yes, they have been designed for the domestic market and we have a complete range of retrofit LED bulbs. These bulbs fit straight into your current mains voltage fittings and are supplied in all the major cap types such as edison screw (E27/ES), bayonet (B22/BC) and many more. If you are unsure as to which bulb to choose speak to our Customer Service Team on 01354 694 591 who will be happy to assist. Alternatively check our website for up to date ranges of tp24 L1 LED and tp24 retrofit LED bulbs.

How long does each bulb last?Our LED lamps have an average lifespan of approximately 20,000 hours compared to a regular incandescent/halogen lamp’s lifespan of only 1,000 hours.

What sort of guarantee do you offer?We cannot guarantee the current from your electricity suppliers and it is these fluctuations which do most damage to light bulbs. However, we supply a unique 2 year warranty with all of our LED lamps just register your purchase on our website to receive the full 2 year warranty. All of our fittings are guaranteed for 1 year from the date of purchase. (This warranty excludes bulbs/fittings that have been physically broken by misuse. This does not affect your statutory rights).

Do I need any special wiring?No, all of our fittings are suitable for standard mains voltage. You may need to buy tp24 plug and play cable for G40 plug and play downlights, however this still runs on mains voltage.

Are your light fittings easy to install?Yes, extremely! The majority of our fittings are supplied with our unique, patented HSR and HSS head systems that allow the light fitting to be fitted over a standard ceiling rose, eliminating the need to rewire the loop or switch drop.

Can I leave my lights on continually 24 hours a day?No. Because of the way that these lamps work they are not designed to be left on 24/7 – they need a rest period (a bit like us I guess).

Do you have a showroom?We have extensively remodelled our 2,000 sq ft showroom in a converted chapel at our headquarters in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire. FAQINTERIOR DESIGN TIPS

IntroductionLighting is quite often overlooked and more often than not, it becomes a last minute choice, however it is one aspect of interior design that it’s vital to get right. When choosing lighting for your space, there are three keys factors to take into consideration:

- The function of the light (i.e. task lighting, general purpose or ambient lighting)- The direction the light will be shining in (remember white ceilings also reflect light)- The aesthetics of the light fitting

Task lightingSpotlights are great for lighting a work area such as a study or kitchen surfaces, they are often adjustable too meaning you can aim the light exactly where you want it, or even adjust the fitting to suit your varying tasks unlike Halogen spots, LEDs run at very cool temperatures, making readjustment possible even after hours of continuous usage. Depending on the type of task you may also want to consider installing downlights, see pages160-169 for more details.

Bedroom lightingSubtle lighting works best in a bedroom so choose a fitting where the light can be dispersed softly. Small pools of light from clusters of table and floor lamps will help create a warm, relaxing atmosphere.

Bathroom lightingWith bathroom lighting you must adhere to bathroom lighting regulations, referring to the bathroom zones and IP (ingress protection) ratings of light fittings. These can be found on pages 144-159.

Spotlights are great in bathrooms. Make clever use of existing mirrors to maximise light if necessary or add one of our illuminated LED mirrors. For a larger or L-shaped bathroom why not try combining a decorative centre light with functional downlights where more light is required. Take a look at tp24 downlights, available in IP20 and IP65 ratings.

It’s often hard to find feature lighting for bathrooms that come with adequate ingress protection but at tp24 we’ve made this possible. So how about some crystal in the bathroom for a change? The 6 arm LED Osterley crystal and chrome semi-flush fitting, page 149 shows how glamorous LED lighting can brighten up your bathroom without you having to fall into the trap of functional lighting. For a low ceiling, choose a flush or semi-flush light fitting.

Children’s lightingChildren’s lighting is all about fun, take a look at our children’s lighting on pages 76-79. Why not theme your child’s room with one of tp24s space station light fittings and continue the theme with a dark blue blind and bedding. Alternatively build your own colourful fitting using our mix ‘n’ match frames and pop shades on pages 46-51.

Lighting small spaces and corridorsConsider the shape of your space. Compact spaces benefit from being well lit. The Redbridge zig-zag spot bar can be positioned to direct light into any dark areas if you’ve got a long kitchen or corridor or even want to bend light around a corner then our flexible Tennessee spot bars are the perfect solution, see page 117.

Have low ceilings? Flush fittings and downlights will give you maximum head clearance and get you out of a tricky spot when your fitting needs to be mounted in close proximity to a swinging door.

Downlights Too many people position their downlights in a linear, ‘runway’ fashion if this will provide adequate lighting then that’s great, however, for most situations, this will leave the home owner with dark spots, particularly over work areas. It is important to plan the positioning of the lights exactly where you’ll need them, over the sink, over the counters and in the walkways. Even better, put these three lighting groups onto separate switches so you only end up using what you need to, when you need it.

Dining lightingCreate a statement in your kitchen by fitting suspended lighting over your breakfast bar or dining table. Don’t limit your space to just one light, if the space can accommodate multiple fittings then using multiples of three and five are more aesthetically pleasing,

Living room lightingIn a living room the lighting should only be noticed as part of the décor, not because it is overpowering. Lighting the whole room is not essential, layers of light will make your guests feel relaxed so use a mix of table and floor lamps along with ceiling and wall lights to create the mood you desire. Placing Floor lamps in the corner of a room will help to widen a small space.

Statement lightingLighting can turn an ordinary space into an extraordinary space. Statement lighting will always add a wow factor to any room, hung low over your dining table, or in a tall stairwell. Lighting is one of, if not the most important, factors in an interior design scheme. Consider all the different levels of lighting in the room from the ceiling pendants, wall lights and table/floor lamps.

If you need a larger fitting but you still want full control of the light level, why not look at the ‘switchable’ fittings by tp24. These fittings have a built-in tiered switching system and work with greater efficiency than traditional dimming, yet they do not require a dimmer switch as the switching is in-built and controlled by a regular 2-way on/off switch.

Openplan lighting & continuityWhen lighting an open plan room it’s best to let the lighting flow, continue through with similar or matching fittings, especially in a lounge-diner. Consider complementing your fixed lighting with matching floor and table lamps to pull off your look.

Look at the size of your room(s) before choosing your light fitting(s). One of the biggest mistakes people make is not getting the size or quantity right. Consider the positions of the fittings, the number of arms required and the brightness of the lamps (bulbs). Many older houses had ceiling fittings positioned close to the windows does it need moving to a central point or do you need two lights instead of one for the size of the room?

InstallationA special quick-fit system has been designed and patented by tp24 that enables the installer to screw the special HSR ring straight onto the existing threaded ceiling rose. If you don’t have a ceiling rose, not to worry, flip it over and you can screw the HSR straight in. After wiring up, three secure grub screws then affix the light fitting to the HSR ring. Many of our customers are able to install light fittings themselves simply by following the instructions supplied with each fitting. If you are not confident with electrics then always hire an electrician.
