The new advanced full colour map navigation system, which is standard on T�-S, T�, T Spirit and T�80, takes the stress out of finding the right way, quickly and efficiently – every step is intuitive and instructions are simple to follow. You can activate all functions via the �.�" LCD touch screen monitor. Then, once the system is programmed, simply follow the ��,000-colour fine resolution map to your destination.

Orientation is made easy thanks to clear maps with lane guidance, landmarks displayed in �D and exit lanes indicated as you approach them. The navigation system also tells you your estimated time of arrival and time left to your destination. It even helps you retrace your steps by displaying the route taken, should you miss a turning.

Inside, premium quality also abounds: the new audio system incorporates the full map navigation screen as well as a radio and CD player which can handle your MP�s, and you’ll notice the ergonomic audio switches mounted on the four-spoke leather steering wheel.

Sharpens the senses, smoothes the ride

The Avensis’ many intelligent solutions help ensure that you’re as close to the road as you want to be, and as removed from any obstacles as possible.

The front spoiler and bumper line as well as the underbody which covers the fuel tank are designed to enhance aero-dynamics on the Avensis, giving the Saloon and Hatchback a drag co-efficient of 0.�8 and the Tourer 0.�9. The use of a revolutionary Ultra Light Concept (ULC) insulation material not only minimises driving sounds, but also saves weight and hence further reduces fuel consumption.

For a smooth ride and precise steering feel, the MacPherson strut front suspension combines enhanced shock absorbers and stabilisers. At the rear, the double wishbone with toe control arm has also been further improved for optimised reaction time and stability during cornering.

Introducing the state-of-the-art 2.2 litre D-4D 180 High Power engine.

Generating �00Nm of torque from �000–��00 rpm, the �� DIN hp engine delivers exceptional responsiveness through a �-speed transmission, no matter what driving conditions you face. Its Variable Nozzle Turbocharger is electrically activated, increasing overall efficiency. And, with the use of piezoelectric injectors in the common rail system (which allow fuel to be injected at a much higher pressure) combustion control is made extremely precise – culminating in power and torque which outperforms any comparable diesel in its class.

There’s no compromise on emissions either. Using Toyota’s D-CAT (Diesel Clean Advanced Technology) system, the highly sophisticated Diesel Particulate Nox Reduction (DPNR) technology produces the lowest combined nitrogen oxide (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) emissions of any comparable diesel engine. This is significantly below the requirements of �00� Euro IV legislation.

Toyota D-�D – for a cleaner driveHere is further proof that Toyota’s D-4D technology delivers on powerful yet environmentally friendly diesel engines.

The �.0 litre D-�D ��0 diesel engine offers the latest in performance engineering. It combines optimum power with low fuel consumption and low levels of undesirable emissions. The key to this success is common rail, direct injection combined with twin overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and a Variable Nozzle vane-type Turbocharger.

With advanced Toyota technologies our engineers have created a best-in-class �.0 litre D-�D ��0 engine with increased output (�� DIN hp) and a remarkable �00 Nm maximum torque whilst lowering emissions. With only �� g/km CO� emissions, this model is amongst the cleanest currently on the road.

The D-�D ��0 reaches 0–�� mph in �0.� seconds* and a top speed of �� mph. Yet consumption is �� mpg, giving an astonishing potential range of over ��0 miles between fills. Thanks to the use of an aluminium cylinder head and block, engine weight has been reduced and, combined with a reduced displacement of �998 cc, excellent fuel efficiency can be achieved.

The D-�D ��0 offers flexibility while delivering ��0 Nm/�000–��00 rpm of torque and ��0 DIN hp output through a �-speed manual transmission. With two VVT-i petrol engines featuring precise engine technology to balance pure driving pleasure with low fuel consumption and low emissions there’s a choice for every driver.

The Avensis’ innovative direct injection and VVT-i petrol engine technology responds to the way you drive by delivering the ideal balance of power, responsiveness, fuel economy and emission control.

VVT-i stands for Variable Valve Timing – with intelligence. It refers to the engine’s ability to alter the timing and duration of the intake valve opening. This process is controlled by an electronic ‘brain’ that makes sure the valve timing is always optimised for every condition the driver is likely to encounter. This process is carried out dozens of time every second and cannot be detected by the car’s occupants, other than in appreciating the engine’s flexibility, low petrol consumption and impressive emissions. The �.8 litre VVT-i is best-in-class with regard to fuel consumption.

The system reacts instantly to the demands being made on the engine by electronically optimising the timing of the valve opening. This delivers the power needed, when it’s needed. While all Avensis petrol engines feature VVT-i, the �.0 comes with the added benefit of direct petrol injection. The petrol is introduced directly into the combustion chamber, resulting in a considerable increase in efficiency. Toyota has mastered the technology required to make direct petrol injection a production reality, and has created a frugal yet powerful engine as a result.

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)* with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD)*

ABS helps you maintain control during sudden heavy braking or when braking on a slippery surface by electronically balancing the braking force between all four wheels to match the level of grip of each one. EBD complements this by optimising brake force distribution between each wheel. Together the two systems help prevent the wheels from locking and allow you to steer around obstacles as you come to a halt.

Brake Assist (BA)*BA automatically supports emergency braking if the brakes are applied quickly but without sufficient pressure on the pedal. It does this by measuring how fast and how hard the brake pedal is depressed and then, if appropriate, increasing braking force.The timing and degree of assistance reflects your own braking action, when you ease the pressure on the pedal, BA similarlyreduces the amount of assistance.

Traction Control (TRC)*If you accelerate too hard and cause the drive wheels to loose grip and begin spinning, TRC will instantly reduce engine power to help restore traction.

9 airbags, � starsPeace of mind is standard on the Avensis. This view is shared by Euro NCAP, an independent commission backed by European governments, motoring and consumer organisations, which measures safety on new cars – it awarded the Avensis the maximum five-star rating.

Comprehensive driver protectionThe Avensis was the first car of its type in Europe to feature a driver’s SRS knee airbag. This, combined with collapsible pedals, helps minimise the risk of foot and leg injuries in a frontal collision. Similarly, the collapsible steering column works in conjunction with the seat belt and SRS airbag to help reduce the risk of head and torso injuries.

SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) airbags as standard. The driver’s and front passenger’s dual-stage inflatable SRS airbags have proximity sensors and a rate of impact sensor that allow proper deployment to help prevent injuries. There is also an SRS airbag for the front passenger, SRS side airbags for the front seats, and SRS curtain shield airbags covering both the front and rear seats. These are inflated from the centre, offering supported protection to front and rear passengers.

Automatic shift lockThe optional automatic transmission* is fitted with a fail-safe shift lock system to help prevent the shift lever being accidentally moved from park to drive.

Excellent collision resistanceFront and rear crumple zones and

strengthened roof and pillars help alleviate cabin deformation in a crash and so reduce the threat of injury to the people inside. The doors also incorporate impact bars, belt-line reinforcement and energy absorbing pads for extra security in a side-on collision.

Front and rear seat beltsBoth front seat belts incorporate pre-tensioners which instantly draw the seat belt back at the moment of impact and force-limiters that release belt tension when a specific load is reached. Together with the SRS airbags, they help maximise safety while reducing the likelihood of chest injuries. Designed to fit more inThe Avensis is renowned for its spacious cabin, but when it comes to loading capacity and versatility the Tourer takes the lead.

For extra flexibility the rear seats split �0:�0, fold and tumble. With all seats folded, a large flat loading area is created with a massive ��00 litre loading capacity. This gives you enough room to take a bike, for example, and plenty of other items. But even with all the seats in place, the Avensis ensures there’s ample luggage room.

Additional storage compartments, practical boxes and trays to stow away your belongings also add to the experience whilst you sit back and enjoy the ride.

All three models – Saloon, Hatchback and Tourer – are designed with plenty of room for you and your passengers and lots of space for luggage and possessions.

Every new Toyota comes with a three-year/�0,000-mile manufacturer’s warranty, covering your car against the unlikely event of a manufacturing defect causing a mechanical fault. Your Toyota retailer will talk you through the Avensis ‘Health and Safety’ maintenance programme. The programme is very straightforward and designed for your convenience. In effect, your Avensis needs a full Health and Safety check, dependant on driving style and conditions, up to once every two years or �0,000 miles (whichever comes sooner). An intermediate Health and Safety check is necessary every year or �0,000 miles.

Toyota warranty

Comprehensive termsThe warranty covers any defect caused by a manufacturing or assembly fault. It is valid for three years of normal use or �0,000 miles, whichever comes first, with no mileage limitation for the first year. If the car is immobilised due to a breakdown (as a result of a defect covered under warranty), you will also be covered for the cost of towing your vehicle to the nearest authorised Toyota repairer.

Rust and paint defectsThe warranty also covers surface rust and paint defects appearing on any of the painted body panels as a result of a fault in material for a period of � years, regardless of mileage.

Corrosion coverThe warranty offers �� years’ coverage, regardless of mileage, against perforation of the bodywork (from inside to outside) that develop due to corrosion caused by faults in material or workmanship.

Toyota genuine parts

The Avensis is designed to minimise the cost of accident repair. Energy absorbing elements are built into the bumpers, expensive to replace parts are located away from damage zones, and commonly damaged body parts are bolted rather than welded. As a result, the extent of damage is limited and damaged parts are easy to remove, replace or repair. Ultimately, this means very low part and labour charges.
