•  WhileISOnolongerusesthephysicaldemonstra<onofwatersupplydelivery,the2-hourtestiss<llareasonablestandardbywhichfiredepartmentscancomparetheirwatersupplyopera<ons.

•  TheparIcipantsforthedrillwerefromseveraldifferentfiredepartmentsintheWaukeshaRegionandthewaterhaulingapparatuswasrepresentaIveofthetypeofwatersupplysupportthatwouldrespondtoastructurefireintheTownofWaukeshaarea.

ThedrillbeganwithTWFDLadder1671arrivingonsceneandworkingwithTWFDTender1691togetadumpsiteupbeforewaterflowhadtostart.

Thedumpsitecrewdecidedtoarrangedumptanksinfrontofthe1500gpmquintsimula<nga“Single-LaneTank”layout.Thefirstdumptankusedwasoneoftwo,3500-galdumptankscarriedonthefirst-arrivingtender.

Theseconddumptankfromthefirst-arrivingtenderwasdeployedsoonthereacerandthus,atwo-dumptankopera<onwasquicklysetup.

•  Forthisdrill–twofillsiteswereused–afirehydrantandastream.

•  Thefillsitesbothprovidedabouta3.0-mileroundtripfortheunitshaulingwater.

•  Bothsiteshadamplewatervolumetosupportthedrillandaccesswasnotaproblem.

•  A1,500gpmpumperwasusedateachsitetosupportthetenderfillsta<on.


StreamFillSiteOpera<on


5-inchLDHwasusedatthestreamfillsitetoloadtenders.Loadingopera<onswereveryefficientandtenderswerequicklyplacedbackontheroadtothedumpsite.

TheResults

•  Thedrillwasstoppedatthe2:00-hourmark.•  Waterflowwasinterruptedtwiceduringthedrillwhileopera<onalchangesweremadeatthedumpsite.

•  Anes<mated86,500gallonsofwaterwereflowedthroughthequintduringthedrillproducinganaverageflowrateof801gpm.

•  Apeakflowof1,000gpmwasachievedduringthelast14-minutesofthedrill.


TheLessonsLearned

•  Atthisdrill,crewschosetogorighttoadumptankopera<onfromtheverystart.

•  Thedumpsitepumper(quint)hadonlya475-gallonwatertanksohechangeovertodumptankopera<onshadtooccurratherquickly.

•  Manyofthetenderscarriedtwindumptankswhichallowedfortherapiddeploymentofmul<pledumptanks.


TheLessonsLearned

•  Astheflowincreased,asecondsuc<onlinewasneededatthequintsothattheunitcouldsupportthefireflowandsupplymul<plejetsiphons.

•  Theuseofasuc<onelbowandaddi<onalsuc<onhoseallowedbothsuc<onlinestobeconnectedtothequint’ssidesuc<oninletsthusavoidingthefrontsuc<onlimita<on.
