As spring turns to summer, the Danville Senior Center has an array of classes and programs to educate, entertain and exercise the body and mind. Senior Bocce begins in May, the Arthritis Foundation returns for summer aquatic classes, and a panel will discuss senior living options in the Bay Area. Try your hand at crochet, drawing or watercolor. Browse the Silver Streak for new classes and check out the latest Senior Sneakers trips. We look forward to seeing you at the center!

Napa River Cruise/Mare Island Bus Tour Wednesday, May 7, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
A cruise along the Napa River aboard the Delphinus boat is like a voyage into the past. We will view the historic Vallejo and Mare Island waterfronts and the bridges that span the triple junction of the Carquinez Strait, the Napa River, and San Pablo Bay. Our docent will tell us about riparian and marsh life and its importance to the health of the SF Bay. After lunch onboard the boat, we’ll drive to Mare Island for a docent-led bus tour of sites including the stately Colonial Revival era mansions of Officer’s Row, St. Peter’s Chapel and the Mare Island Artifact Museum. Artisan Cheese and Organic Farm Tour/Marin CountyWednesday, May 21, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Spend the day in Marin County, home to numerous organic farms and cheese makers. Tour the organic farm and dairy operations at Nicasio Valley Cheese Co. Meet the cheese maker and sample the award winning artisan cheeses. Dine al fresco at Dolcini Ranch, overlooking the largest organic vegetable farm in Marin County.
Learn about raising pastured chicken and grass fed beef from ranch owner, Kitty Dolcini. Shop for local cheese and local products to enjoy at home. Price includes all tours, cheese tasting, lunch and bus transportation. Fees: $100(R) $120(NR). Activity Level: 4/5
Union Square/Chinatown Walking TourThursday, May 29, 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
The Union Square and exotic Chinatown tour focuses on art, design and decor. Guests delight with the eclectic Clift Hotel lobby, the Nikko Hotel and Tony Bennett’s painted heart at Union Square. Maiden Lane is home to a Frank Lloyd Wright building and the Xanadu Gallery and the pop art at the Triton Hotel contrasts with colorful Chinatown. View inside the Gold Sage Buddhist Monastery and Old St. Mary’s Cathedral as it completes the tour. Lunch is served at the Oriental Pearl. Lunch, tour and transportation included in price. Movie Fans! Filmmakers have been drawn to the Monterey Peninsula for nearly 100 years in search of the perfect backdrop for their movies. National Velvet, The Ghost & Mrs. Muir, Play Misty for Me, One-Eyed Jack, A Summer Place and a host of other movie classics have brought the gorgeous scenery of the Monterey Peninsula to the silver screen. Join us as our tour guide brings the era of Monterey’s movie making magic back to life. We will have lunch at the Tap Room in Pebble Beach. There will be time on your own to shop in Carmel. The Arthritis Foundation offers a unique exercise program for people of all ages who suffer from any arthritis ailment. Students will participate in water exercises that help to improve joint functionality, muscle tone, endurance and self-efficacy. Jacki Sorensen’s Aerobic Dancing is a dance fitness class for the non-dancer that provides a total body workout (strength, flexibility, and endurance) in a safely choreographed format suitable for all ages and active seniors. Senior Issues Sub-committee Meetings in 2014
Wednesday, April 23, July 23, Oct. 22 REGISTRATION INFORMATION Mail or drop off your registration form to the Danville Senior Center or the Danville Community Center. All resident registrations received by April 15 at 5:00p.m. will be processed beginning Wednesday, April 16 with no priority given. Non-resident registration will begin on Friday, April 18. Phone and walk-in registration will begin on Monday, April 21. To register by phone, please contact the Danville Senior Center (925)314-3490. Please note times listed for each Senior Sneaker trip are approximate. Staff will mail out a detailed checklist approximately one week before the trip with exact meeting time. Class Cancellation/Withdrawals Requests for withdrawal will be honored if requested no later than 5 business days prior to the first day of class. Requests made less than 5 business days prior to the first day of class must be submitted in writing and will be considered on an individual basis. A $20 processing fee will be charged for check refunds; a $5 processing fee for credit card refunds. Make-up Classes Whenever possible, make-up classes will be given on those occasions when inclement weather or instructor illness requires that a class be cancelled. No refunds (whole or partial) can be given for classes missed by the student. Senior Sneaker Trip Refund Policy: When registration falls below the minimum enrollment required, it may be necessary to cancel a trip. At the time of cancellation, the Town will initiate a full refund. Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for refunds to be processed. Withdrawal and refund requests must be submitted five working days prior to the trip. Refunds will not be given for trips designated (no refund). Senior Sneaker Trip Registration Priority: Due to the high demand of the Senior Sneaker program, seniors will be limited to registering for two trips per month, or a total of four per issue of the Silver Streak newsletter. When choosing your trips, please number them in order of priority. In Case of Emergency: Please call Senior Services to verify that your emergency contact information is current. Since prompt medical care is crucial in an emergency, the Town would like to ensure we have the most current information for each participant.
