Amongst other things, REHDA Institute’s main focus is on:

(1) Training & Events: Providing industry relevant training and events for the real estate and property development industry to improve productivity, innovate new ideas and advance best practices for the industry.

(2) Research: Providing industry relevant research data, publications and analysis for members and the benefit of the real estate and property development industry in general.

(3) Education: REHDA Institute aspires to work on academic and industry relevant educational collaborative partnership with academic institutions to provide recognised accreditation for the benefit of the real estate and property development industry in general.

REHDA Institute Objectives(1) To develop training and events for the industry with a modern approach towards achieving the highest standard of performance, professionalism and industry best practices in the real estate, property development and building industry.

REHDA Institute ActivitiesREHDA Institute organises many industry relevant training programmes to ensure members and their staff are kept abreast with updated best practices in Malaysia and from around the world. Some of these include briefing sessions from public authorities (SYABAS, TNB etc.), more construction technical centric related programmes (QLASSIC, construction demolition and waste management, GST and Tax etc.) to banking and economy related events impacting the industry.

(2) To spearhead research, development and publications of industry relevant content for the benefit of members, improvements to best industry practices and contribute to the positive development of Malaysia as a whole.

(3) To work hand in hand with academic institutions, Colleges and Universities to develop industry relevant modules and certification for those involved in the real estate, property development and building industry to improve value and skillset of those involved in the industry.

ABOUT REHDA INSTITUTE

REHDA Institute is the training and research arm of Real Estate and Housing Developer’s Association (REHDA). REHDA institute was established in 2001 to address the research and educational needs of the housing and property industry. Under auspices and with support from its parent organisation REHDA Malaysia, REHDA Institute has its own Board of Trustees led by REHDA Institute Chairman.

History of REHDA InstituteREHDA Institute’s original roots were in the form of the HDA Housing Developers’ Association (HDA) foundation, which started off as a foundation in 1992 by four illustrious original founders comprising of:

Launched by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi on 12th July 2004, REHDA Institute seeks to address the property development industry’s increased training and research needs.

REHDA Institute acts as the training, research and educational arm of the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia (REHDA). REHDA institute regularly organizes seminars and conference as well undertakes research work and report on various issues concerning the industry.

REHDA Institute’s roles include conducting research and development to encourage the continued progress of the industry and contribute higher value to Malaysia’s economy as a whole.

REHDA Institute StructureThe affairs of REHDA Institute is managed and administered by an independent Board of Trustees led by REHDA Institute Chairman. The Board consists of prominent industry personalities including many past-Presidents of REHDA Malaysia who have contributed significantly to the growth and advancement of the housing and property industry.

Headquartered in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, with branches all over Peninsular Malaysia, the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia (REHDA) was originally established in May 1970, originally known as the Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia (HDA).

In October 2000, HDA was renamed the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia (REHDA). Starting from just 13 pioneer members, REHDA has grown from strength to strength to position itself as a key partner in the building Malaysia’s socio economic foundation as a nation and today boasts a membership of over 1,000 corporate members comprising of developers across Peninsular Malaysia, many whom are responsible for some of 80% of the total real estate built in Peninsular Malaysia.

REHDA is recognised as the leading representative body for private property developers, being involved primarily in advocacy and governance. Our members are involved in all types of property development, from traditional housing projects to condominiums, townships, towering commercial complexes, shopping malls, state-of-the-art golf courses, hospitals, theme parks and industrial estates.

Being the sole national representative body for property developers, REHDA plays a pivotal role in ensuring that developers’ views are heard by the relevant authorities and government agencies. REHDA is highly regarded by both the public and private sectors for its commitment to nation building and betterment of life through sustainable property development.

Dato’ Jeffrey Ng is Patron, Past President of REHDA (2002 - 2006) and Past Chairman of REHDA Wilayah Persekutuan (KL Branch). Currently the Chairman of REHDA Institute, Dato’ Jeffrey sits on various other Boards:

Prior to joining Sunway REIT Management Sdn Bhd, he was the Executive Director of Sunway City Berhad (currently known as Sunway Berhad) and former Managing Director of AP Land Berhad.

Dato’ Jeffrey has more than 30 years of extensive experience in finance, corporate planning and executive management in the property and hotel industry in both Malaysia and Australia. Graduated with a Bachelor of Economics from Monash University in Melbourne, he is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants, a Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Australia and New Zealand as well as a Fellow member of the Malaysian Institute of Directors.

He has held various positions in non-governmental associations, among which was Director of Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Vice President and Secretary General of FIABCI Malaysian Chapter (International Real Estate Federation), Vice President of Malaysian Association of Hotel Owners (MAHO), Chapter Chairman of Young Presidents Organisations (YPO) Malaysian Chapter and Vice Chairman of Malaysia Australia Business Council (MABC).

Dato’ Jeffrey was awarded “Real Estate and Housing Developers Association (REHDA) Personality of the year 2015” for his contribution to the real estate industry. He was also accorded the “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Malaysia Australia Business Council.

Tan Sri Datuk Eddy Chen was has been holding the present position as Managing Director of MKH Berhad since 2005. Equipped with a BBS in Marketing from Monash University, Australia, he has more than 32 years’ experience in property development and construction related businesses. He was awarded the “REHDA Personality of the Year 2013 Award” from his active contributions to the property industry.

Tan Sri Datuk Eddy Chen also sits on various government-private sector committees that formulate policies governing the housing and real estate industry, including PEMUDAH national task force on reviving abandon housing and construction permit chaired by Y.Bhg Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Ali Bin Hamsa, Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia.

He is also the advisory council member of housing and local government training institute (I-KPKT), and the advisory committee member of the master in science of housing development and management for University Utara Malaysia. Tan Sri Datuk Eddy Chen was recipient of the CEO OF THE YEAR AWARD on The Malaysian Construction Industry Excellence Awards (MCIEA) 2015 by CIDB Malaysia.

Tan Sri Dato’ Teo Chiang Kok is patron, past President of REHDA (1990 - 1994) and past Chairman of REHDA Selangor/Kuala Lumpur Branch (1984-1986). Currently Trustee of REHDA Institute, Tan Sri Dato’ Teo have also contributed significantly in various capacities on other Boards and Associations and continues to do so:

Tan Sri Dato’ Teo Chiang Kok has been in the Property development industry for the past 45 years, having undertaken a multitude of projects including high-rise commercial, office complexes, shopping centre, industrial and housing scheme. Currently the group is developing the much sought after new township Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya in which the very successful 1-Utama Shopping Centre is located in.

Tan Sri Dato’ Teo is a graduate of King’s College, London and M.Sc from Warwick University. For his contributions, he was conferred the President’s Award 2011 (Pertubuhan Architect Malaysia, PAM), IEM Distinguished Member 2013 (The Institute of Engineers Malaysia, IEM). Datuk Ng Seing Liong is also active in property development through development company Kota Kelang Sdn Bhd, of which he is a Director and major shareholder, focusing on townships, housing and commercial developments in the Klang District of Selangor.

In terms of corporate experience, he also specialises in the fields of audit, tax, business advisory in a variety of industries. He is still actively involved in the field of insolvency, where he has been appointed receivers, managers and liquidators by various financial institutions.

A Chartered Accountant by qualification, Datuk Haji Muztaza is the founder and Managing Director of the Fairview Group of Companies since 1984.

He is the past President of CIMA, Malaysia Division and was involved with the Member’s Services Committee at CIMA, UK. For his outstanding services and contribution to the advancement of the Institute over the years, Datuk Haji Muztaza was conferred with the CIMA (UK) Institute Award Silver Medal.With a long standing background in the property development industry since 1970s, Datuk Haji Muztaza has more than 35 years of experience building, leading and advising Government, private corporations, associations and co-operatives.

Datuk Haji Muztaza has also served in various capacities in FIABCI (Malaysia), Dewan Perniagaan Melayu Malaysia, Selangor (DPMMS) and Lembaga Perumahan Hartanah Selangor.
