Just four schools have advancedto the quarterfinals of the EasternMaine Class A boys basketballtournament at the Augusta CivicCenter in each of the last fouryears: Bangor, Edward Little ofAuburn, Hampden Academy, andMt. Blue of Farmington.

Look familiar? They’re also the top four teams

in this year’s Eastern A Heal pointratings, and this year’s regionalchampion is likely to emerge againfrom this high-quality quartet.

The four frontrunners enteredthe final week of the regular seasonwith a combined 56-8 record, withsix of the losses to each other.

Only Lawrence of Fairfieldholds victories over any of theleaders, with early season winsover Mt. Blue and Hampden, so nowonder the Bulldogs also aresecure in advancing to Augustawhile hovering around .500 formuch of the season.

But back to the top of the stand-ings. Bangor has not lost since anopening-game 65-52 defeat atHampden, its fortunes paced by itsfrontcourt tandem of 6-foot-3senior forward Zach Blodgett, 6-

foot-5 senior center Josiah Hartley, and 6-foot-6 junior forwardPatrick Stewart, a trio that hasenabled coach Roger Reed’s club togenerate plenty of high-percentageshots and rebounds as well as rele-gate most opposing offenses to theoutside, where guards TristanThomas and Luke Hetterman haveapplied the perimeter pressure.

That defensive effort has yielded

just 37.3 points per game so farthis winter, with no opponentscoring more than 47 points sincethe Rams’ loss to Hampden.

As for the Broncos, two last-sec-ond losses prevented coach RussBartlett’s club from an even moreimpressive record than than the15-3 effort it secured with a winover Messalonskee of Oakand inits season finale.

While Bangor is an inside-ori-ented team, Hampden is keyed byits guards, particularly senior Gra-ham Safford. The 6-foot-1 seniorrecently surpassed 1,000 careerpoints and ranks as his team’sleader in scoring, rebounds, assists, and steals as he has flirted withseveral triple-doubles during thelatter stages of the season. Heteams with sharpshooting juniorChristian McCue to give Hampden

arguably the best backcourt tan-dem in the region to go with afrontcourt led by 6-foot-7 FredKnight, who was battling an injurylate in the regular season.

Edward Little features 6-foot-3senior forward Bo Leary, one ofthe craftier players in the regionwho is able to take bigger defend-ers outside as well as work in thelow post against rivals his height orsmaller. Point guard Tim Mains isa steadying influence for coachMike Adams’ two-time defendingEastern Maine champions, whoselone loss entering the final week ofthe regular season was a 73-65defeat at Hampden in their onlymeeting of the winter on Jan. 4.

Then there’s Adams’ almamater, Mt. Blue, which has hadanother stellar season under long-time coach Jim Bessey and residedin fourth place in the Heal pointratings for more than a month. The Cougars are led by the inside-outside tandem of 6-foot-5 CamSennick and junior point guardEric Berry.

As for darkhorses in the divi-sion, Lawrence has proven itselfcapable of defeating the big boys, and Lewiston has parlayed a late-season surge sparked by victoriesover fellow tourney contendersBrunswick and Mount Ararat ofTopsham into a tournament spotof its own. Cony of Augusta, Brew-er, and Messalonskee of Oaklandbegan the final week of play need-ing a big win to punch a ticket tothe ACC.

There has been quite the chang-ing of the guard in the EasternMaine Class A girls basketballranks this winter.

Hampden Academy, which isenjoying one of its best seasons inrecent memory, and will enter theeight-team tournament seeded nolower than third, with coach ChadBradbury’s club having steam-rollered to the KVAC North title.

“We went through our shootingslumps; thank goodness it wasmidseason as opposed to tourneytime,” Bradbury said.

The Broncos have left perennialcontenders such as Skowhegan andMessalonskee in the dust, whileEdward Little of Auburn andMorse of Bath have controlled thesouth.

Even though the Shipbuilders,Red Eddies, and Broncos arelooming as the teams to beat,Bradbury believes it’s anybody’stournament.

“I wouldn’t say Morse is unbeat-able by any means,” he said. “It’sgoing to be an interesting week.”

Hampden has used offensiveconsistency and a stifling defensein its run back to Augusta, as the

Broncos have surrendered morethan 40 points only five times allwinter.

Senior guards MichaelaStephenson and Katelyn DeRapsheadline a balanced offensiveattack, while Kate Parsons can playin either the backcourt or front-court.

Julia Snyder gives Hampdenanother solid post presence, whileWhitney Moore, Courtney Doyon, and Helene Sherburne providedepth.

It’s quite possible the Broncoscould face local rivals Bangor orBrewer in an opening-roundmatchup, as those two teams werebattling for the final postseasonpositions in the season’s finalweek.

The Rams climbed back intoplayoff contention thanks topointworthy victories over Messa-lonskee and Skowhegan late in theregular season, and coach KatieHerbine’s club was in a solid posi-tion to grab a spot with two gamesto play.

Bangor and Mount Ararat ofTopsham were battling for twoplayoff spots in the regular season’sfinal week, including a season-ending Witches-Rams clash at theBangor Auditorium.

Bangor has been sparked by thereturn of junior forward KateTreadwell from an injury, while theRams also feature tenacious guardplay, led by sisters Deane and Dei-dre Johnson and Kim Jordan, along with Hillary Throckmorton.

Bri McKenna gives Bangoranother solid inside presence.

“They’re going to be tough hav-ing somebody inside that can be anuisance on the boards,” saidBradbury.

Edward Little and Morse werejockeying for the No. 1 seed in theregular season’s final week.

Coach Craig Jipson’s Red Eddieshave also been somewhat of a sur-prise considering their graduationlosses, but sophomore guard Ash-lee Arnold has had an outstandingyear for EL, whom Bradbury called

“scary.”Morse features Danish

exchange student NikolineOstergaard, a 6-foot guard, whilethe Shipbuilders also have soliddepth in Emma Block, TarraBurr, and Tori Field.

Bradbury feels as long as hisBroncos can play strong defense,

they’ll have a good shot at theregional title.

“Our goal is to keep peopleunder 40 points,” he said.“I kind offeel the first to 40 wins in girls bas-ketball.”

Rounding out the tourney fieldare Brunswick, Cony of Augusta, and Messalonskee.

Hampden Broncos seeking deep run in girls’ Class A tournament

By Ernie ClarkBDN STAFF

The Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference has dom-inated Eastern Maine Class B boys basketball for thelast decade, winning 10 consecutive regional titles andeight state championships.

And Camden Hills of Rockport is dominating theKVAC ranks this season, earning favorite’s status towin its fifth gold ball since the start of the 2000-01season.

The Windjammers ended the final week of regular-season play not only undefeated and top-ranked inthe division, but outscoring their opponents by 32points per game.

“Every day that we work in practice we get thatmuch more confident,” said Camden Hills guard JoelGabriele, “and I have complete confidence in myteammates. We’ve been playing together since we werelittle guys, and this is our senior year so we’re ready togo.”

Camden Hills features 6-foot-6 seniors TylerMcFarland and Keegan Pieri. McFarland, a two-timeBangor Daily News All-Maine choice, is a favorite forthis year’s Mr. Maine Basketball award, while Pieri hascome on strong during the second half of the season.

“When you have two 6-foot-6 guys it helps, butwe’ve really talked a lot about dominating the paint, not letting the ball into the paint on the defensive endand on the offensive end forcing all their defendersinto the paint before we shoot a 3(-pointer),” saidCamden Hills coach Jeff Hart. “As long as we don’t get3-happy early, they’ll open up after that if can goinside-out to get the shots.”

That approach has enabled the Windjammers toaverage more than 78 points per game. Their offense

also is fueled by turnovers forced by the Windjam-mers’ trapping fullcourt defensive pressure.

“Everything runs off our defense,” said Pieri. “Ouroffense runs off our defense, so basically if we put ourenergy into defense, everything will just flow fromthere.”

Ellsworth, which also ended the final week of regu-lar-season play undefeated, is trying to return to theEastern B final for the second straight year. Coach

From top to bottom, most girls’basketball pundits around the statewould argue that Eastern MaineClass B is one of the deeper fieldsin tournament play.

“I agree 100 percent,” assessedJohn Bapst coach Mike Webb. “Ijust don’t see any blowouts.”

Heading into the final week ofthe regular season, it was finallyclear who the top 10 teams wouldbe, and Presque Isle has proven tobe the best among the bunch dur-ing regular-season play.

Coach Jeff Hudson’s Wildcatswill enter the tourney as the No. 1seed for the second consecutiveyear with a 17-1 record, finishingthe regular season on an 11-gamewinning streak.

It certainly had its dramaticmoments, such as Kayla Richards’half-court buzzer-beater in a 37-36win over Mattanawcook Academyof Lincoln on Feb. 1.

Richards, a junior guard, is oneof PI’s top offensive weapons, along with classmate ChelseaNickerson and sophomore Chan-dler Guerrette.

While the Wildcats do lackheight, they are athletic, quick, andplay tough pressure defense.

John Bapst, the only team tobeat Presque Isle this winter, hasenjoyed a fine season under veter-an coach Webb, and his Crusaders

finished in second place.Bapst has been led by freshman

forward Abby Pyne. The 6-footPyne is not just strong around thebasket, but can step out and hitmid- to long-range jump shots, and is one of the best free-throwshooters in the Big East at 82 per-cent.

“We definitely want the ball inher hands,” Webb said.

Pyne has faced double- and

triple-teams and a variety of junkdefenses this winter, but the prob-lem with that is the Crusaders haveother weapons, such as BrittanyWilliams, Riley Boyle, Taylor Edge-comb, and Paige Martin who can

do damage.Webb said Pyne

has worked hard onher floor vision andsetting up her team-mates when defens-es apply pressure.

“She’s not selfish;she definitely seesthe floor,” he said.

“We’ve worked alot on that this lastweek, because she’sgoing to see thattype of pressuredown the stretch,”Webb said.

D e f e n d i n gregional championNokomis, which fin-ished the season infourth place, willnot give up itscrown without afight. Coach KoriDionne’s Warriorswon their final eightregular-season con-tests, mainly withtheir trademark

pressure defense.Nokomis features a talented

point guard in senior Julie Smithand a strong inside presence inclassmate Danielle Watson.

Junior Marissa Shaw has had a

strong campaign for the Warriors, while sophomore Traci Carsongives Nokomis another threatinside off the bench.

The team the Warriors knockedoff in the regional finals last win-ter, MDI, still has two-time BigEast Conference Player of the YearMegan Phelps leading the way, while Medomak Valley of Wal-doboro also has a strong insidegame led by Ericka Christensen.

Caribou is certainly capable ofpulling an upset, and the Vikingsdid just that in the season’s home-stretch, beating John Bapst athome to secure the No. 6 seed andbypass the preliminary round.

Caribou features one of theregion’s top offensive players insenior Jenna Selander.

The four teams that were in thepreliminary round — Winslow,Old Town, Hermon, and Gardiner— are all capable of making such arun as well, particularly Old Townwith its height.

“I don’t think anybody wants toplay Old Town. They’ve got thesize and the guards,” Webb said.

Coach Dana Maxim’s Coyotesfeature two solid post threats injuniors Courtney Treadwell andAshley Abbott, and Old Town hasgiven several of the top teams fitsthis winter.

There’s been a resurgence inClass C boys basketball in north-ern Penobscot County this winter.

Both Lee Academy and Penob-scot Valley of Howland have estab-lished program records for mostregular-season victories in a sea-son, and Stearns of Millinocketgives the region three of the topfive teams in the division accord-ing to the Heal point ratings.

Lee’s success has stemmed inpart from a defense that has yield-

ed just 47 points per game, but thePandas also have averaged morethan 66 points per game through-out the season and nearly 74points per contest during their lasteight games.

Coach Randy Harris’ club hasfour players who average scoringin double figures, and eight differ-ent players have led the team inscoring at least once this winter.

And in a recent game againstDeer Isle-Stonington, the Pandashad 26 assists on 34 field goalsmade, with 13 of those field goalscoming from beyond the 3-pointarc.

“I’ve been coaching for 27years,” said Harris, “and this is byfar the best offensive team I’ve hadhere.”

Senior guard Bryan James hasemerged as the team’s leadingscorer, averaging 20 points pergame over the team’s final sevenregular-season games.

“He’s as good a finisher as I’vehad. He’s had a good season,” saidHarris.

Senior guard A.J. Harris, son ofthe coach, ranks second on theteam in scoring, rebounds, andassists.

“A.J. may not be the best playerI’ve ever had, but he might be thebest player on the best team I’veever had,” said coach Harris.

But where Lee perhaps separat-ed itself from its Eastern MaineClass C peers during the regularseason was with its depth. DanielHe, a 6-foot-7 sophomore, hasbeen a solid defensive playerthroughout the winter and hasseen his offensive role grow steadi-ly as Lee has focused on workingits attack from the inside out. Artie

Makovskis, a 6-foot-4 sophomore, has provided steady point guardplay while Dustin Sawtelle, JasilElder, David Cropley, John Chase,Kody Scott, and Blaine Guido allhave made valuable contributions, according to Harris.

While the Pandas head intopostseason play with confidence, they are taking nothing for grant-ed.

“When you’ve got players in thetourney like Joey McCloskey (ofPenobscot Valley of Howland) andBrandon McLaughlin (of Stearnsof Millinocket), I certainly thinkit’s wide open,” said Harris.

Penobscot Valley has been led byone of Eastern Maine’s top bigmen in McCloskey, a 6-foot-7 sen-ior who is scoring and reboundingin double figures and recently sur-passed 1,000 career points. EddieCobb, Jake Jones, Ryan Scopino, and David Hallett also have beenkey to the Howlers’ success.

McLaughlin, a senior swingmanwho helped Stearns win the East-ern C football title last fall, hassparked the Minutemen to its

strong regular season on the hard-wood with more than 20 pointsper game while also leading theteam in rebounding. Billy Eurich,Brian Bouchard, and EthanMichaud also have been team lead-ers for coach Greg Marter’s club.

Penquis of Milo has relied ongritty defense to battle its way intoClass C’s upper echelon, with sen-ior point guard Bryan Russell and

In a typical basketball season,it’s not unusual to find at least twoor three undefeated teams vyingfor top spots as tournament timeapproaches.

But that hasn’t been the case thiswinter, with the Central girls thelone squad in Eastern Maine withan unblemished mark heading

into the Class C tourney.Coach Diane Rollins’ club fin-

ished their unbeaten season with avictory over rival Foxcroft Acade-my in the season’s final week, andfeatures a pair of 1,000-point scor-ers in seniors Hannah Pray andBekah Campbell.

Despite the Devils’ perfect regu-lar season, Pray knows that every-body is 0-0 when the ball is tippedat the Bangor Auditorium.

“It’s like starting the season all

over again going into the tourna-ment,” Pray said. “We just need topick it up all together.”

Central has maintained itsperch atop the standings despitemissing sophomore point guardMax McHugh with a leg injury, and the Devils are hoping she’ll beready to go in the quarterfinals.

But Central has had some play-ers step up big-time in herabsence, particularly BriannaSpeed, Taryn Pineo, RobertaTrafton, and Sam Brownell.

The Devils weren’t particularlypleased with their effort againstFoxcroft on Feb. 8, and feel thatthey’ll need to step their game up abit once the tournament tips off.

“I think we need to have a killerinstinct, and we need to come outand play hard for 32 minutes,”Campbell said.

That’ll be key against competi-tion like defending state championCalais, Houlton, Woodland, andOrono, the other teams in the topfive.

“I definitely think Calais, Wood-land and Houlton, they’re going tobe key, but you can’t look over anyteams that are in the tournament,”said Pray.

Certainly not Calais, whichknocked Central out of the tour-nament en route to its state cham-pionship last winter.

Coach Dana Redding’s club hasquietly climbed up the standingsto first place after some early-sea-son struggles, and features a tal-ented freshman in Paige Gillespie, while the Blue Devils still havesome solid experience in RebeccaRedding, Shannon Brown andBrooke Young.

Calais battled rival Woodland in

the season’s final week, with thetwo teams playing each other inWoodland in the final game of theseason.

Coach Arnold Clark’s teams areknown to generate offense off full-court pressure defense, and thathas been the case again this winterin the Dragons posting yet another15-win campaign.

Taylor Cochran, Molly White, and Kelsey Burtt are amongWoodland’s top offensive catalysts, while Christine Boomer andKelsey Worden supply depth.

Houlton played arguably thetoughest schedule of anybody inClass C, as the Shiretowners havefaced the likes of Presque Isle andCaribou en route to a No. 3 seed-ing.

Coach Shawn Graham’s club isled by Amanda Fogarty, Marina

Cameron, and Taylor Bailey.Orono is certainly capable of

making a strong tournament rununder coach Jessica Libby, as theRed Riots will be making theirthird straight Bangor Auditoriumappearance.

Morgan Dickey and JillianWoodward give the Riots twostrong threats underneath, whileOrono also features solid guardplay with Jade Keezer and KateBerry. Laura Triandafillou is athreat to score from the perimeter, along with Keezer.

Washington Academy of EastMachias, which has played in thelast two regional finals, roundedout the top six teams, and is led by1,000-point scorer Taylor Seeley.Penquis of Milo, Foxcroft, Dexterand Madawaska completed thetourney field.

When sizing up the field for the2011 Eastern Maine Class D boysbasketball tournament, the coach-es of the teams considered top-tiercontenders last year who are backonce again had a common obser-vation.

The number of legitimate con-tenders has increased, making thisa deep and tough field to forecast.

That being said, there wasanother point most contendingcoaches agreed upon: CentralAroostook of Mars Hill and Jones-port-Beals are still at the top of the

favorites list, no matter how muchit’s grown one year later.

“I don’t know if I can honestlypick a couple. I know most peoplewill say us and Central or Wash-burn at least in the top four,” saidJonesport-Beals head coach VinnieMacLean, whose Royals are rankedNo. 2 behind annual contenderCentral Aroostook of Mars Hill. “Ithink anyone in the top 10 is atough draw because I think they allhave a chance to knock each otheroff.

Oh, and then there’s the pres-ence of defending state championSchenck of East Millinocket,

whose 12-6 record gives them aNo. 4 seeding.

“I think it is tough to single outone team out of those top four orfive,” said head coach GlennBillings, whose Deer Isle-Stoning-ton Mariners check in at No. 8.“When you have this many solidteams, the matchups are moreimportant than anything elsesometimes, especially if you hap-pen to draw a team whosestrengths attack your weaknesses.

“A County team may be suscep-tible against a big team likeMachias [No. 5, 15-3], especiallysince they haven’t seen them,” hesaid.

And then there are other issuesthat can affect the match-ups, like injuries, illnesses, and attempts to hide oreliminate annoying littleweaknesses or issues affect-ing consistency or execu-tion.

“Right now, to be honestwe’re still going throughsome hurdles and need toget better on the glass, rebounding wise,” saidSchenck head coach SteveLevasseur. “And ourdefense is pretty solid, butwe need to improve on theoffensive end in terms ofexecution.”

There’s always some-thing to work on or fretover when you’re a coach.

“Going down thestretch, I’d say we’ve beenstruggling with theboards,” said Levasseur, whose two tallest playersare 6-foot-1 or 6-2.

Rebounding hasn’t beena problem for the big and athleticRoyals, who were out reboundedjust once this season.

“The thing we have to do is takecare of the ball and not turn itover,” said MacLean. “We also haveto dominate the glass because it’s astrength, and then run when wecan.”

“For us, it’s all about tempo andshooting,” said Billings. “Our half-court patience as well as our speedin a fullcourt opportunity are thekeys because our shooting hasn’tbeen as consistent.”

Life isn’t predictable, and thesame can usually be said of thehigh school basketball season, butthis year things went pretty muchaccording to form — at least in theupper reaches of the EasternMaine Class D girls ranks.

When polling the coaches of themore successful teams from recentseasons, the same names keptcoming up when asked who wouldbe in the top half of the tourneycontender field: defending statechampion Fort Fairfield, CentralAroostook of Mars Hill, Wash-burn, and Southern Aroostook ofDyer Brook.

As the regular season came to anend, the official Heal Point stand-ings had Washburn first, followedin order by Central Aroostook,Schenck of East Millinocket,Southern Aroostook, and FortFairfield.

OK, so maybe Schenck was asurprise, but surprises were fewand far between this season.

“I think Darrick’s [Schenckhead coach Darrick Thompson]done a great job at Schenck start-ing three freshmen and playing thetough Class C schedule they play,”said SACHS Warriors coach CliffUrquhart. “That’s the biggest sur-prise to me as far as how the stand-ings wound up.”

Then again, his own team sur-prised Urquhart at least a bit withthe way it built chemistry and won15 straight games despite the lossof four starters, a sluggish presea-son, and two straight losses to startthe season.

Much of that is due to the con-tinued strong play of returningveterans like twins Janel Rockwelland Jasmine Rockwell, ShelbyHartin, and Olivia Raymond. Therest is due to drastic improvementof junior Katelyn Somers, plusimmediate contributions from

freshmen Sable Altvater and soph-omore Desirae DuBois.

“We’re a much lower-scoringteam this year and playing at amuch slower pace, but I thinkwe’re playing better defense andlimiting our opponents to oneshot more often,” Urquhart said. “Idon’t believe we’ve been out-rebounded all season.”

With three returning starters,Rod Codrey’s Central AroostookPanthers’ expectations were higherthan their Aroostook counterpartsin Dyer Brook, but while aspira-tions were high, pressure was not.

That’s the benefit of playing fora school with one of the morehigh-profile boys teams in all ofClass D and Eastern Maine basket-ball. When a team has won three ofthe last six state titles, it tends toput others in its shadow.

“I can tell by looking at thecrowds we get that a lot of peopledon’t focus too much on the girlsteams, so we don’t have to contendas much with the pressure of being

a high seed,” said Codrey. “For meI think it’s a plus when there’sanother team taking some of thespotlight off you. And you can alsouse it for motivation.”

The Panthers’ primary motiva-tion is to win their first EasternMaine title since 1993.

Despite a 14-3 record and No. 2seeding, the Panthers are anythingbut a shoo-in for that due a veryyoung roster and the solid compe-tition they’ll get from the rest of atalented tourney field, including16-2 Deer Isle-Stonington andworrisome underdogs like Sheadof East Machias, Bangor Christian,Van Buren, and Jonesport-Beals.

“We have seven sophomores, but they’re coming along prettywell,” said Codrey.

That’s not to say there’s no expe-rienced talent.

Returning starters RachaelGrew, Kirsten Long, and VickiMcIntyre have enjoyed solid sea-sons again, but Kayla Cushman hashelped to fill the void of thedeparted starters, and Olivia Gar-rison has become one of the team’stop defensive stoppers. Sarah Grass

thing that separates the “favorites”from the contenders or dark horsecandidates in a better-than-aver-age tourney field. That’s something teams like Cen-tral Aroostook, Schenck, and Jone-sport-Beals have plenty of in theform of returning starters andreserves from teams making deeptourney runs the last one to twoseasons.

“We had a good corps of return-ing kids who are basketball smartwith our best four, and theyounger kids have really comealong,” said MacLean.

Levasseur has three starters backwho will play on the Bangor Audi-

torium court at this time of yearfor a fourth straight season.

“Experience can make all thedifference, but the big thing to meis winning that first game in thequarterfinals,” Levasseur said.

Perhaps the best way to illus-trate this field’s strength is that theteam with the best record (Wash-burn at 16-2) isn’t even ranked inthe top two. The Beavers are third.

“I think we can have a bunch ofupsets, like with Machias forinstance because they have two bigguys around 6-5 who’ll bematchup problems for mostteams,” Billings said.

“We’ve lost six games this yearand would have won at least threeof them if we’d shot better fromthe line,” said Levasseur. “Every-thing is magnified this time ofyear.”

NEWS will presentWarner, Osborne awardsto top tourney players

It is the most eagerly anticipatedweek of the year in eastern Mainesports — the Maine Principals’Association Eastern Maine basket-ball tournament.

With the spotlight trained onthe Bangor Auditorium and theAugusta Civic Center, the bestteams and players in the regionconverge in their quest for the ulti-mate prize — a gold basketball.

Invariably, a handful of clutchplayers emerge who can handle thepressure and perform when itcounts most while helping theirteams win regional titles. Thoseare the players who are recognizedby the Bangor Daily News, whichchooses its annual All-Tourna-ment teams and bestows theWilliam C. Warner and Owen O.Osborne Most Valuable Playerawards.

In 1994, the BDN initiated twoMVP awards to honor former

sports editors Warner andOsborne, two longtime tourneyfixtures. The Osborne Award goesto the top female player in eachclass, while the Warner Award ispresented the top male perform-ers.

Winners in this 19th year will beselected by a vote of tourneymedia, MPA representatives, tour-ney officials and other veteranobservers.

Osborne was the BDN sportseditor for more than 20 years. Hedied in 1978. Warner succeededOsborne and held the same postuntil shortly before his death in1994.

Since the inception of theBDN’s MVP awards, 104 winnersfrom 64 schools have been hon-ored. Ashley Ames of Dexter,Lanna Martin of Calais and Mor-gan Frame of Waterville have the
