• If you are planning on traveling to Spain and you are looking for a place where you can enjoy good weather, beautiful flowers and a unique experience that cannot be found everywhere, you have to visit the famous “patios of Córdoba”. During these 2 weeks, you will be able to see how the people decorate their houses for these special days. However, you should be aware that you will only see part of the work, which is the decoration and all these beautiful flowers, but what you won’t see is the amount of work the local residents have throughout the year to maintain all these incredibly stunning courtyards.
• They need to cultivate the plants and take care of the garden, they have to plant new species, water them, cut them, arrange them, etc. Moreover, they have to maintain the interior of the patio – the stone mosaics and ceramic decorations which prevail in most of the courtyards in the South of Spain.
• As you can see, the “patios of Córdoba” to the people of Córdoba is much more the only a 2-week celebration or a name on the World Heritage list. To the people involved it means far more than that and they dedicate the entire year to plan their courtyards and implement this plan – often with the help or in teamwork with the neighbors. It is a part of their lives, their history and culture and they want the world to share this heritage with them during the first two weeks of May.
