A Road trip to Chitradurga

A town you will rarely find on “weekend getaway lists”, Chitradurga is a charming and humble town, about 250 kms from Bangalore. I recently undertook a motorcycle expedition with the intention of exploring the town town and its fort. I had little planned, except that I would explore the fort and stay there for a night.

The journey :

Road trip to Chitradurga began after a quick research on the places around. I made an early start on a Friday evening and stayed with a friend in Tumkur, with the intention of reaching the fort early in the morning. I started towards Chitradurga by 7 Am the next morning hoping to take in the picturesque view of the dewy highway. But, if the Western Ghats and coastal Karnataka has spoilt you with choice, the Chitradurga highway might slightly disappoint you.

Tourist Spots In Bangalore

This will get better once you have driven/ridden past a small town called Hiriyur. From here on windmills are dotted along the route and once you spot a crowd of windmills you know Chitradurga is almost around the corner. I finally reached the town by 10 AM and made a pit stop at the KSTDC restaurant close to the fort, which is a decent breakfast option.
