>> NEW ZEALAND CERTIFICATE IN TOURISM LEVEL 2
Your tourism course at school may include just a few tourism unit standards or you may want students to gain the New
Zealand Certiicate in Tourism Level 2 qualiication. If you want to ofer the qualiication you have to either use the New
Zealand School of Tourism approved programme or develop your own programme and submit it to NZQA for approval
prior to use.
If you currently hold accreditation to deliver tourism unit standards this is not the same thing as having an approved
programme, and you will still need to develop a programme if you want to award students with the qualiication.
The programme you develop and send to NZQA must meet the following Graduate Proiles.
The New Zealand Certiicate in Tourism (Introductory) - Level 2, 50 credits
Graduate Proile 1Apply basic customer service skills, using appropriate communication, literacy and numeracy skills, to enhance the visitor
experience - 10 credits
Graduate Proile 2Apply knowledge of speciic regions, and a broad operational knowledge of world geography in terms of characteristics relevant
to tourists needs - 20 credits
Graduate Proile 3 Explain the basic role of the tourism industry, in order to plan a realistic career pathway - 10 credits
Graduate Proile 4 Apply ‘best practice’ processes in order to recognise the impacts of tourism on the country - 10 credits
Sign a MOU with New Zealand School of
Tourism and use their approved programme
and accreditation.
Apply to NZQA to be accredited to deliver the New Zealand School of
Tourism Programme.*
Develop a programme for your school that meets the graduate outcomes for the qualiication and send to NZQA.
Your school can now use the programme
