Narrative

Intramuros is the oldest district and historic core of Manila, the capital of thePhilippines. Nicknamed the Walled City, the fortified Intramuros was the seat of government during the Spanish Colonial Period. Its name in Latin, intramuros, literally means "within the walls".[2] Districts beyond the walls of Manila

were referred to asextramuros, which means "outside the walls." The city was located then along Manila Bay and south of the Pasig River entrance before 20th-century reclamations obscured the city from the bay. Guarding the city isFort Santiago, a citadel located at the mouth of the river. Construction of its thickdefensive walls were started by the Spaniards in the late 16th century to protect the seat of the Spanish government from foreign invasions (most notably British and Dutch) and raiding Chinese sea pirates.

In an October 2010 report titled Saving Our Vanishing Heritage, the Global Heritage Fund identified Intramuros along with Fort Santiago, as one of 12 worldwide sites "On the Verge" of irreparable loss and destruction, citing insufficient management and development pressures.

Fort san tiago

Fort Santiago (Spanish: Fuerte de Santiago Tagalog: Moog ng Santiago) is a citadelfirst built by Spanish conquistador, Miguel López de Legazpi for the new established city of Manila in the Philippines. The defense fortress is part of the structures of the walled city of Manila referred to as Intramuros ("within the walls").

The fort is one of the most important historical sites in Manila. Several lives were lost in its prisons during the Spanish Colonial Period and World War II. José Rizal, the Philippines' national hero, was imprisoned here before his execution in 1896. The Rizal Shrine museum displays memorabilia of the hero in their collection and the fort features, embedded onto the ground in bronze, his footsteps representing his final walk from his cell to the location of the actual execution.

Manila cathedral

The Manila Metropolitan Cathedral-Basilica, officially known as the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and informally as Manila Cathedral, is a prominent Latin Rite Roman Catholic basilica located in Manila, Philippines, honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary as Our Lady of the

Immaculate Conception, the PrincipalPatroness of the Philippines.

Located in the Intramuros district of Manila, it was originally a parish church owned and governed by the diocese of Mexico in 1571, until it became a separate diocese on February 6, 1579 upon the issuance of a Papal bull by Pope Gregory XIII. The cathedral serves both as the Prime Basilica of the Philippines and highest seat of the archbishop in the country. The cathedral was damaged and destroyed several times since the original cathedral was built in 1581. The eighth and current incarnation of the cathedral was completed in 1958. The Basilica has merited three Papal endorsements and two Apostolic visits fromPope Gregory XIII, Pope Paul VI and Blessed Pope John Paul II, who through thepapal bull Quod Ipsum declared the cathedral a minor Basilica by his own Motu Proprio on April 27, 1981.

The current-elect for the Apostolic Papal Nuncio of the Philippines is ArchbishopGiuseppe Pinto. The cathedral serves as the highest seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese  of the Philippines, while the present Archpriest of the Basilica-Cathedral is Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle, the de facto Primate of the Philippines.

San agustine church

San Agustin Church is a Roman Catholic church under the auspices of The Order of St. Augustine, located inside the historic walled city of Intramuros inManila. Completed by 1607, It is the oldest church still standing in the Philippines; o other surviving building in the Philippines has been claimed to pre-date San Agustin Church.

Page 5: Tourism Planning

In 1993, San Agustin Church was one of four Philippine churches constructed during the Spanish colonial period to be designated as a World Heritage Site byUNESCO, under the collective title Baroque Churches of the Philippines. It was named a National Historical Landmark by the Philippine

government in 1976.

Casa manila

Casa Manila was destroyed during the Second World War and stepping into its massive stone walls and cold stone flooring is like stepping back into time. The structure in itself gives you that “feel” of living in a Filipino house or residence way back in the 19thcentury. This Spanish colonial home was rebuilt by the former first lady Imelda Marcos during the 1980’s to help Filipinos appreciate their heritage and to assist tourists to better understand the history and development of the Philippine culture.

Upon entering the museum, you will immediately notice the Spanish architecture and fixtures all over the place. A friendly and welcoming tourist guide will greet you at the entrance and will help show you around Casa Manila. But you can also choose to roam around by yourself. This is permitted as long as you make sure that you do not touch anything especially items that look very fragile and valuable. They practice a “Look But No Touch” policy in the museum.

If you choose to join the Casa Manila tour, the attending guide will lead you first to the courtyard for a more intense appreciation of the outdoor structures and fountains.  You will then be led to the main receiving area which is actually the perfect replica of what a working office looked like during the Spanish times. After which the guide will bring you to the second floor of Casa Manila where you will see the rooms, the living area, the master’s bedroom and the kitchen. As you enter each room, you will witness different kinds of Spanish design during that time, from the antique furniture, crystal

chandeliers, oil paintings and classic vases, not to mention the authentic kitchen utensils which are always the main attraction especially for tourists visiting the museum.

Bahay tsinoy

The Bahay Tsinoy (literally Chinese-Filipino House) is a museum located in theIntramuros (Old Walled City) section of Manila. Housed within the Kaisa-Angelo King Heritage Center building, the museum documents the history, lives and contributions of the Chinese in the Philippine life and history.[1]

The museum was designed by Eva Penamora in collaboration with the late architect Honrado Fernandez in 1996, and completed and inaugurated in 1999. Kaisa Para sa Kaunlaran, Inc., a non-profit organization co-founded by Teresita Ang-See, envisioned the project to provide another venue for advocating patriotism to the Philippines and promoting cultural identity and understanding between the local Chinese and Filipino communities, after the much-award bi-lingual children's educational television program Pinpin in the early 90's.

Funding for the land and building structure was advanced by Angelo King Foundation and eventually raised through generous contributions from different levels of Filipino-Chinese community, from taipans to average wage-earners.

The museum is divided into the following sections:

Early contacts The Parian Colonial culture Emergence of the Chinese community In defense of freedom Life in the 1800s National leaders of Chinese descent Gallery of rare prints and photographs

The museum is fully air-conditioned and housed within the Kaisa-Angelo King Heritage Center building, which also houses the office of Kaisa Para sa Kaunlaran, Inc., Chinbin See Memorial Library, the Await Keng Theater Auditorium, the Benito Cu Uy Gam Hall, and the Pao Shi Tien and Madame Limpe seminar rooms, which all constitute the Kaisa Heritage Center.

Luneta

Rizal Park, also known as Luneta Park or colloquially Luneta, is a historicalurban park located in the heart of the city of Manila, Philippines, adjacent to the old walled city of Manila, now Intramuros. Since the Spanish Colonial Era, the park has been a favorite spot for unwinding, socializing, an urban oasis for family picnicson Sundays and holidays. It is one of the major tourist attractions of Manila.

Located along Manila Bay, Luneta has been the site of some of the most significant moments in Philippine history. The execution of pacifist Dr. José Rizal on December 30, 1896, sparked the fire of the Philippine Revolution against theSpanish colonizers, elevating the martyr as the national hero of the country. The park was officially renamed Rizal Park in his honor and his monument serves as the symbolic focal point of the park. The Declaration of Philippine Independencefrom American rule was held here on July 4, 1946 as well as the political rallies ofFerdinand Marcos and Corazon Aquino in 1986 that led to the EDSA Revolutionthat deposed Marcos ending his dictatorial government.

- Zero kilometer marker

Page 8: Tourism Planning

In many countries, Kilometre Zero (also written km 0) or similar terms in other languages (also known as Zero mile marker, control stations or control points) is a particular location (often in the nation's capital city), from which distances are traditionally measured. They were markers where drivers could set their odometers to follow directions in early guide books.[1]

A similar notion also exists for individual roads (that is, all locations on the road have a number, depending on their distance from that location), and for individual cities (often the city's central post office is used for this).

The most famous such marker of which any part survives from ancient times is the Milliarium Aureum ("Golden Milestone") of theRoman Empire, believed to be the literal origin for the maxim that "all roads lead to Rome"

- Chinese garden

The Chinese garden, also known as a Chinese classical garden, recreates natural landscapes in miniature. The style has evolved for more than three thousand years, and includes both the vast gardens of the Chinese emperors and smaller gardens built by scholars, poets, and former government officials. The classical Chinese garden is enclosed by a wall and has one or more ponds, a rock garden, trees and flowers, and an assortment of halls and pavilions within the garden, connected by winding paths and zig-zag galleries. By moving from structure to

structure, visitors can view a series of carefully-composed scenes, unrolling like a scroll of landscape paintings
