The Eiffel Tower

Ok, here we are! We are now standing in front of the world's most famous landmark, the Eiffel Tower. The tower was designed by a known bridge engineer, Alexandre Gustave Eiffel. It was built between 1887 and 1889 as the entrance arch for the Exposition Universelle, a World's Fair marking the centennial celebration of the French Revolution.

Until 1981 the government of Paris took over its management. The tower went through a reconstruction and renovation in preparation of its 100th anniversary in 1989.

As you can see, the Eiffel Tower is a 984-foot(about 300-meter) tower of wrought iron and open-lattice. Once the Eiffel Tower was the tallest structure in the world until the Chrusler Building was finished in New York City in 1930.
