DESCRIPTION

Tour GRT05 "MORIAS TOUR", The land of the kings Agamemnon & Leonidas With its ancient monuments, medieval castles, uniquely beautiful villages and surrounding nature, the Peloponnese is much more than a coastline with picturesque gulfs. The entire history and nature of the Mediterranean is reflected in a single area. The Peloponnese is the homeland of Helen of Troy and the Atreides, the Olympic games, the sacred olive tree and ancient Sparta. War, peace and civilisation. It is also home to the ancient theatre of Epidaurus, possibly the most beautiful open-air theatre in the world, and to the Sanctuary of Asklepios that lies next to it, which is a world cultural heritage monument.

Tour description

Recommended for…

This route is recommended for those who wish to explore the “Mythical South”, the island which is not really an island, those who want to gaze over the blue Aegean sea from the southernmost point of Greece, the Balkans and all of continental Europe at cape Tainaros (‘cavo Matapas’). This is where the entire history and nature of the Mediterranean is reflected in a single area that stands as an apotheosis of micro-scale and contrasts. Imposing mountains that are surrounded by a coastline that looks as if it has been weaved with gold, with extensive beaches and exotic gulfs. Rough, barren landscapes and lush vegetation in fertile valleys – all of which can be found at a small distance from each other. Great monuments of antiquity and splen-did castles of the Venetians and the Byzantians, traditional guesthouses in stone-built mountainous villages, but also modern, multi-star luxurious hotels are all avail-able at the traveler’s choice, throughout the year.
