Multitenancy is using 1 single site to provide a unique experience and branding to multiple clients who are using it by keeping brand, users and information distinct (though the underlying infrastructure is singular).

Multi-tenant feature can be very useful when you have several clients using your Moodle or Totara LMS which have sensitive information that cannot be disclosed, this comes extremely handy if your client requires certain level of privacy or you just want your client to think that you appointed the whole system to them.

Multi-tenant feature allows clients to customize their theme, pictures, content, add users; each tenant would have its admin, being able to change every aspect of their instance.

Your LMS (Moodle or Totara) would let the owner of the system dictate how many user (clients) have access to the system without letting them know that there are other users in the same system.

Moodle Multi-Tenant Feature offers you the possibility of having several Moodle instances under your Main Moodle, think of it as your main Moodle instance as a Building, and the other Moodles (tenants) as the apartment in that building, in which no one knows who is there, how does their Moodle looks like or the content in it.
