The Future: Total Focusing Method (TFM)
TFM is the next evolution in advanced ultrasonic methods. This method uses PAUT probes and instead of firing them in a sequence to focus at one certain depth, it pulses one element at a time and then receives with all the elements within the PAUT probe. Then the element that was pulsed is programmed to know what all the other elements received and reconstructs the A-scan input. This process is repeated with all the elements in the PAUT probe. What this creates is a matrix effect that not only focuses at one depth, but focuses at 65,536 (256x256) points in the area of interest.
