After several years experience with computerized tomography in the Federal Republic of Ger- many accompanied by the expected rapid technical developments and improvements, a Symposium on Total Body Computerized Tomography was held in Heidelberg in September 1977.
Numerous speakers were also invited from abroad to report on the latest techniques and experi- ence in the field of diagnostic applications of cranial and whole body computerized tomography.
Many of the approximately 700 participants at the Symposium expressed the desire to have the lectures printed, and we were pleased to oblige. This was only made possible, however, by the willingness of the lecturers to supply their papers in English.
