1. Choosing a topic

• Choose a topic that reflects your understanding and interest.

• Think of some topics that really interest you.

• Shortlist

• Choose the most promising one.

2. Narrowing a topic

• The topic chosen is usually still very broad/general.

• Narrow the topic down to a small workable unit.

• Form the thesis statement (statement of the problem)- outline the main function of the research
