WARD WISE DISTRIBUTION OF POPULATION
Distribution of population of decade 1991 is shown by the dot map .
Table no. 4.1 and Fig. no.4.1 shows that distribution of population is uneven.
Highest population is found in the ward no. 20 i.e. 1384 persons and lowest
population is found in the ward no. 11 i.e. 731 persons. In the decade 2001 4
wards are merged and create the 17 wards.(Table no. 4.1) In these wards
maximum population is found in the ward no.6 i.e. 1988 and minimum
population is found in the ward no.12 i.e. 987 persons.
WARD-WISE POPULATION DISTRIBUTION:
In the Sawantwadi town ward-wise population distribution is uneven.
To study the ward-wise distribution of population, here population is grouped
into five categories (Table no 4.2) In the decade 1991 below 1000 population
is found in the ward no. 7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17 and 19. These wards
are located near the center. Population between 1000-1200 found in the ward
no. 1,3,4,6 and 18. Except ward no. 18 other 3 wards are located north side
of the town. Population between 1200-1400 found in the ward NO. 2,5,20 and
21. Ward no. 2 is located on the north side; ward no. 5 is on the east side, and
ward no 20 and 21 are south side of the town. In this decade above 1400
population is not found.
In the decade 2001 Less than 1000 population is found in only one
ward i.e. ward no. 12.Fig. No. 4.2 .category of 1000-1200 population is in 8
wards.(3,5,8,9,10,13,15,16) these wards are situated around the Moti Tank.,
which is the heart of town. Category of 1400-1600 population is found in 5
wards. (1, 2, 4, 7, 14) which is located in the north part of the town, (expect
ward no. 14) Maximum population is (above 1600) found in ward no. 6 i.e.
1988 persons. (Table no. 4.2 )
As compared to the decade 1991 and 2001, in decade 2001the no. of
wards are decreased by 3 wards but, high population and low population

category are found in the same location. Except location ward no. 6 where
population is above 1600 in the decade 2001 located near the center of the
town.

Ward wise distribution of population of decade 1991 of Malvan town is
shown by the dot map. Table no. 4.3 and Fig. no.4.3 shows that distribution
of population is uneven. Highest population is found in the ward no. 14 i.e.
1845 persons and lowest population is found in the ward no. 12 i.e. 394
persons. In the decade 2001 4 wards are merged and create the 17
wards.(Table no. 4.3) In these wards maximum population is found in the
ward no.6 i.e. 1318 and minimum population is found in the ward no.16 i.e.
913 persons.
WARD-WISE POPULATION DISTRIBUTION:
In the Malvan town ward-wise population distribution is unequal. To
study the ward-wise distribution of population here population is grouped into
4 categories. (Table No.4.6) In the decade 1991 population is mainly
distribute into 2 categories. All the wards are included in these 2 categories,
only ward no. 14 is including in to the high category. This ward having very
high population. This ward is located near the main road. In the category
1000-1100 ward no. 4, 17,18,19,20 and 21 are included. In these wards
except ward no 4 which is located north-west side of the town and all other
wards are located near the coast side of the town.
In decade 2001 Less than 1000 population is found in ward no. 3, 5,
and 16.Fig. No. 4.4 Category of 1000-1100 population is in the ward no. 4, 7,
9, 11, and 13. Category of 1100-1200 population is in the ward no. 1, 2, 8, 14,
and 17. Above 1200 population is found in the ward no. 6, 10, 12, and 15.
Maximum population is found in the ward no.6 i.e. 1318 persons. (Table no.
4.6 and)
In Malvan town there are 3 wards are merged and formed only 17
wards in the decade 2001. In decade 1991 above 50% population is
distribute into the below 1000 population category and in decade 2001 only 4
wards are included in this category. Above 1200 population category is found
only one ward in the decade 1991 but, in the decade 2001 in this category 4
wards are include. Here found that the high category wards location is
changed in both the decades.

of population is uneven. Highest population is found in the ward no. 8 i.e. 764
persons and lowest population is found in the ward no. 1 i.e. 435 persons. In
the decade 2001, 3 wards are merged and create the 17 wards.(Table no.
4.5) In these wards maximum population is found in the ward no.17 i.e. 921
and minimum population is found in the ward no.8 i.e. 600 persons.

WARD-WISE POPULATION DISTRIBUTION:
In Vengurla town ward-wise population distribution is unequal. To
study the ward-wise distribution of population here population is grouped into
4 categories. (Table No. 4 ) In decade 1991 wards are distributed into only 2
categories. In between 700-800 population category ward no. 5, 8 and 16 are
included. In these wards 5 and 8 no. wards are located west side of the town,
and ward no. 16 is located east side of the town. All other wards are included
in the category of below 700 populations.
In decade 2001 population is divided into the 4 categories. Category of
less than 700 populations is found in ward no. 3, 7, 8, and 10. These wards
are located near the center. Category of 700-800 population is in the ward
no.1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11, 12, and 16. 800-900 population is in the ward no.13,
14, and 15. These wards are located north-east side of the town and near the
main road. Category of above 900 populations is found in only one ward i.e.
ward no 17 and it is Maximum population of Vengurla town

As compare to the decade 1991 and 2001 in decade 1991 there are 20
wards but in decade 2001 three wards are merged and formed total 17 wards.
Population is increased in decade 2001. This population is divided into the 4
category. In the decade 1991 all the population is distribute into the 2
category and in decade 2001 all the population is distribute into the 4
categories. Below 700 populations is found in the most of the wards in decade

1991 and in decade 2001 only 4 wards included in this category. In the same
location in both the decade high population wards are located in the town.

The present investigation to understand the proportion of Scheduled
Caste and Scheduled Tribes population from the total population and also the
changes in its growth and distribution in Sawantwadi, Malvan and Vengurla
town. SC and ST means such castes, races or tribwes or parts of or groups
within castes, races or tribes as are deemed under as per the Constitution of
India since independence the Indian Government rehabilitated the Scheduled
Castes and Scheduled Tribes population. The Government has made large-
scale provisions of opportunities for social, cultural and educational up-lift
meant of these castes. This social group is among the most subordinated
and poorest in India. They are now participating in all activities. But these
welfare programmers could yield to a very small segment of the society and

after the independence, the socio-economic conditions of the rural and small
towns SC and ST population is more or less.

In Sawantwadi Town decade 1991 total 917 scheduled caste
population is found. In this poulation male population is 493 and female
population is 424. In ward no. 5,10 & 14 there is no single scheduled caste
person is found. In ward no. 11 only 2 female scheduled caste persons are
found. In the ward no. 12 & 13 noted that only male SC population is found.
In the ward no 20 highest SC population is found i.e. 368.

In decade 2001 SC population is decreased by 108 persons. In this
population both male and female population is decreased. In ward no. 12 no
single SC population is found. In ward no. 8 and 16 only SC females are
found. Maximum SC population is found in the ward no. 7 i.e. 377.

In the Sawantwadi Town found that very few Scheduled Tribes
population. In the decade 1991 total 32 ST population, in this population 22
male and 10 female ST population. Out of 21 wards only 5 wards having ST
population. These wards no. are 5,16,18,19 & 20.
In the decade 2001 ST population is slightly increased by 57 persons.
Ward no 2, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16 & 17 there is no ST population is found. In the
ward no. 7 maximum ST population is noted i.e. 42 persons.

In Malvan town 638 SC population is found in the decade 1991. In
these population 319 male and 319 female SC populations is noted. Ward
no. 5, 12, 13 & 17 there is no single SC person is noted. Ward no. 14 having
maximum SC population. Ward no. 2 has only female SC population.
In the decade 2001 SC population is decreased by 135 persons. In
this decline SC population male population is declined by 55 persons and
female SC population is declined by 80 persons. Ward no. 3, 5, 6, 7 & 17
there is no single person is noted. Maximum SC population is found in wards
i.e. 13 & 15.

In Malvan town ST population is very less in decade 1991 and 2001 i.e.

In Vengurla town total 672 SC populations is found in decade 1991. In
this SC population 330 male SC population and 342 female SC population is
found. Ward no. 1, 2, 3, 14, 15 & 19 there is no single SC person is found.
Ward no. 9 has only one male SC person is found. Maximum SC population
is found in the ward no. 20 i.e. 373, here 176 male and 197 female SC
populations.
In the decade 2001 SC population is increased by 92 persons, here
both male and female population is increased. Ward no. 1 & 12 there is no
single SC person is noted. Maximum male and female SC population is found
in ward no. 15 i.e. total 315 SC populations.
After this ward high SC population is found in ward no. 14 i.e.142
persons.
