A young Aussie vet working in England stumbled upon a paddock of retired Double Decker buses. With just £400, a few bunk beds and a flash of inspiration, Topdeck was born!

Coincidentally Topdeck’s first trip was to Morocco, and our passion for North Africa and the Middle East has never dimmed. Although the “Deckers” have long since retired, our determination to operate fantastic, unique trips in this incredible region is as strong now as it was in 1973.

This year we are featuring a range of amazing trips - not only to our most popular destinations Egypt and Morocco, but also to Turkey, Jordan, Syria and Israel, making it our widest choice ever!

Whichever trip you choose in this fascinating corner of the globe, rest assured that the whole team at Topdeck have left no stone unturned to ensure that your trip is memorable, fun, and offers the fantastic value for money for which we are famous.

At Topdeck we have one overriding passion - to give 18 to 30 somethings the travel experience of a lifetime! We use all the experience gained from operating trips around the world for over 35 years, and combine it with the expertise and knowledge of our local partners to present a truly amazing range of travel experiences.

Incidentally, we refer to all of our holidays as trips, not tours - this is not just a play on words, but an essential part of our culture. We always remember that everyone has different holiday expectations - sure, we’ll show you the sights in comfort and without the hassles, but we go out of our way to ensure that you never feel ‘managed’.

Our trip leaders are all highly trained, knowledgeable locals who are passionate about their countries. They’ll be able give you a unique insight into the local culture and history, and because they know the places we visit so intimately, they’ll remove all the stress from your travels, leaving you free to explore.

We hope you can join us in 2011!

Highly Trained Passionate Trip LeadersWe believe that the best way to see Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Israel, Morocco and Turkey is through the eyes of a local. Our caring trip leaders all fall in to that category, and they are on hand 24/7 to cater for your every need. Being locals, our guides can give you a rare insight in to the places we visit, and offer priceless advice on how to get the most out of your trip.

Fellow TravellersUnlike many tour operators, all of our passengers are aged between 18 and 39. Not that we have anything against pensioners or babies, we just believe that sharing your experience with a group of like-minded people will be one of the highlights of your journey. Whether it’s sailing a felucca on the mighty Nile, or riding a camel in the Sahara Desert, most experiences are even better with mates around.

Free TimeWe fully realise that our passengers are individuals, so on all trips in this brochure we strike a balance between included sightseeing and free time. This enables you to spend that little bit of extra time in a temple, market or coffee shop – whatever suits you most! After all, every passenger is different, and at Topdeck we never forget that fact.

Travelling Alone? No worries! A large percentage of our passengers do and it’s a great way to meet people from many different parts of the world. Better still, it costs no extra, as we don’t have costly single supplements - instead we’ll pair you up with someone of the same gender to share with. Some roads are not meant to be travelled alone!

Hassle Free TravellingAt Topdeck we are experts at taking the hassle out of your travel. We have checked out every hotel so there are no hidden surprises, our air-conditioned coaches will take you in comfort through even the craziest city traffic, and when it comes to queuing at a museum, rest assured that no-one will get you to the front door faster than our guides! Our philosophy could best be described as ‘we do the work, you enjoy the sights!’

Topdeck Quality We have been running trips to North Africa and the Middle East for longer than all of our competitors, and we are the preferred supplier to some of the largest and most respected names in the travel industry. But at Topdeck we never rest on our laurels - we are constantly improving our product range to stay ahead of the ‘pack’. We are immensely proud that our extraordinary growth, particularly in the last 3 years, has been due in large part to personal recommendations of past clients.

Egypt is a land like no other. Once home to one of history’s greatest civilisations, treasures such as the majestic Great Pyramids and the mighty River Nile have been fascinating visitors for centuries.

At Topdeck we have designed a wide variety of trips from 8 to 20 days to suit every budget, and all are packed with amazing experiences. Cruise the Nile by traditional felucca or 4-star cruise boat, learn to dive amongst the coral reefs of Dahab, explore the magnificent temples at Luxor, Karnak and Abu Simbel, or try your hand at bartering in the Bazaars in Cairo! Whichever trip you choose we can guarantee one thing – unforgettable sights and incredible experiences await!

Our PartnersWe operated our first Topdeck Egypt trip way back. Our first local Egyptian guide was a guy named Tamer. He proved to be so good and talented that today, Tamer is the Managing Director of our Egypt operation. Tamer and his partner Rafik have a unique understanding of the requirements of our passengers acquired through years of experience, and combined with their local expertise, they help set Topdeck Egypt apart from our competitors.

Our AccommodationIn Egypt we have three styles of trips, depending on your budget. Our budget trips stay in 3-star hotels which are all air-conditioned, with the exception of our hotel in Luxor. Our Upgrade trips stay in air-conditioned 4-star hotels except in the White Desert and on our Egypt, Jordan & Israel trip. Then we have 3 Cruise programmes, staying in 4-star cruise boats while on the Nile. Whichever trip you choose, all hotels have been thoroughly inspected by our Egyptian office to ensure they meet our very specific requirements.

Our CoachesUnlike other operators, we own all of our coaches. This means that instead of wildly differing standards during your holiday, Topdeck can guarantee an excellent standard throughout – not only of our vehicles, but crucially of our drivers as well.

Lots of our trips take overnight trains, but sometimes these services can be disrupted. Fortunately our trips never are, with our local Topdeck coaches always on hand to get you there on time.

Our InclusionsThe two temples at Abu Simbel are among the most magnificent monuments in the world. To us it’s essential viewing, but amazingly some operators regard this as an option – and it’s not cheap! (Allow over $300AUD). All Topdeck trips that feature Abu Simbel in the itinerary include this excursion in the trip price, meaning a massive saving!

DAY 1 Amman. Arrive at Queen Alia International Airport and meet our Topdeck representative. A transfer to the hotel is included.

DAY 2 Amman. We head north through the olive groves to the ancient city of Jerash. Our local guide shows us around the complex. See Hadrian’s Arch, built to commemorate his visit in 129AD. The hippodrome, which hosted the chariot races, could hold 15,000 spectators, and the colonnaded main street still has the ruts made from the chariots. From Jerash we visit Ajloun Castle with spectacular views over the Jordan Valley. We arrive back in Amman for the evening. (B)

DAY 3 Amman – Petra. We travel to the town of Madaba, the Christian centre of Jordan, famous for its mosaics. From here it is not far to Mt Nebo where Moses is said to have seen the Promised Land. BARRAGE AMEZMIZ DAY 1 Marrakech- Essaouira.

We depart Marrakech this morning and travel by public bus, making our way through ever changing countryside we arrive in Essaouira by midday. Its a short walk from the bus station to our hotel . In the afternoon and evening we can laze on the beach and enjoy the seafood restaurants.

DAY 2 Essaouira. The fortified walls are well worth exploring, not just for the views. Essaouira is famous for its artisans so the souks are full of handicrafts. We can do as much or as little as we want. (B)

Day 3 Essaouira- Marrakech The morning is free to top up the tan. After lunch we head back to the bus station to catch the bus back to Marrakech. We are met at the bus station and transferred to our final night. Tonight we stay in the heart of the medina in a traditional Riad. (B)

Day 4 Marrakech. The trip ends today after breakfast. (B)

4 DAYS

This half day excursion departs from Marrakech and is often done on the arrival day afternoon. The cost is paid locally and the price depends on numbers.

Ourika valley is a beautiful, fertile area about 40 minutes drive from Marrakech. Comfortable walking shoes or trainers are recommended, as is a sun hat, or a warm jacket if you are visiting in winter.

The first stop is the village of Ourika where we experience local Berber people going about their daily life. From here we continue to the waterfall of Setti Fadma, which cascades some 60 metres from the mountains to the river below. We then make the return walk up the valley, through villages and seeing local working in the fields. We then return to Marrakech for the evening.

4 Day Essaouira Beach Extension

Half Day Marrakech: Ourika Valley

This trip can be booked as extension of the Moroccan Explorer or as a stand alone trip. Departure dates the same as the Marrakech Atlas Trek.

SLEEPING BAG RECOMMENDED

After experiencing the vast expanse of the desert and the hustle and bustle of the medina why not extend your stay in Morocco and relax on the beautiful coastal town of Essaouira. A firm favourite throughout history, it has a sheltered beach for relaxing, windsurfing on the exposed coast, some of the best fortified walls of any

European city to explore, and a maze of small streets and souks to explore at a leisurely place.

This excursion is unescorted but before you leave Marrakech or guide will make sure you have everything you need to ensure you have a great stay, and if there is anything you need arranging they will be able to help you.

Because this excursion is generally done in the afternoon on day one, it is best to tell us before travelling that you wish to book this. We can let our Moroccan office know so they can make the arrangements. If your flight departs Marrakech late afternoon on the final day of your trip, this can also be done in the morning of that day.

With so much to do in Egypt, you may feel overwhelmed by the choices available to you! Don’t worry, Topdeck is here to help! Our optional activities are carefully selected to give you the widest range of choice in all price brackets. These are some of our favourites:

A Note About Entrances... In Morocco, Jordan and Syria we have included entrance fees in your trip price. We are able to include entrances fees in these countries as costs can be guaranteed and the group prices we obtain are much better than any other discounts offered. In Egypt and Turkey, the prices change regularly and discounts for groups or students vary. For this reason we cannot include entrance fees accurately and have therefore not included them in your trip price. Your Trip Leader will arrange the most cost-effective option. A guide to these prices is available on our website.

Gifton IslandWe think Gifton Island is one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Think stunning coral reefs, colourful fish and amazing wildlife. Our day excursion to Gifton includes lunch and is sure to delight.

River Nile Dinner & CruiseCruise down the Nile on our dinner cruise where you’ll enjoy great food and be entertained by a belly dancer, live music and Darwish dance.

Abu Simbel This destination is so popular, we include it as standard on the all of our trips that visit Aswan in this brochure (unlike some others who charge AU$300+ for the same excursion!). The sight of the amazing temple complex of Abu Simbel will stay with you for life.

How many people in my group? Experiencing a new country with people who have the same outlook on travelling as you, really adds to the enjoyment. With an average group size in 2010 of 25 in Egypt and Turkey, 15 in Morocco and 10 in Jordan and Israel, you easily get to know everyone and long-standing friendships are made. And there’s no issue if you are travelling alone. With over 50% of our passengers starting their trip alone, Topdeck is great for single travellers so you don’t have to worry about being without some good company – and better still there is no compulsory single supplement.

What is the local payment? To give you the best value we have arranged that an element of your trip cost is paid locally. This amount is listed on each itinerary page.

This payment should be paid in cash in the currency mentioned at the arrival meeting on day 1. This payment is not used for any specific expense and forms part of the total package price of your trips. By paying locally, we are able to keep costs down for you and this allows you additional time to save money for your trip.

What is included with my trip?Loads of things! Check out the “What’s Included” box on each trip page. Everything that is included within the trip price such as accommodation, meals, sight-seeing and modes of transport are listed here. Breakfast is included daily and will vary between cooked and continental. Lunches and dinners are included where listed on the trip itinerary.

Are entrance fees included? In Morocco, Jordan and Syria we have included entrance fees in your trip price. We are able to offer this as entrance fees in these countries can be guaranteed and the group prices we can obtain are much better than any other discounts offered.

In Egypt and Turkey, the prices change regularly and discounts for groups or students varies. For this reason we cannot include entrance fees in an accurate manner and have therefore not included them in your trip price. Your Trip Leader will arrange the most cost-effective option on your trip. A guide to current entrance fees is available on our website.

What type of accommodation will I stay in?For the majority of our itineraries, we stay in superior quality 3* & 4* hotels, all with air-conditioning of course! Occasionally in some itineraries we stay in tourist class hotels. You also have the opportunity to stay in a tent in the stunning desert landscapes of Jordan or Morocco – a unique experience!

We also offer trips for those working to a slightly lower budget where we stay in tourist class hotels. Perfect for leaving a bit more cash to spend on some of the great optionals available. Look out for the ‘budget’ symbol. Look in the what’s included for a full list of accommodation.

Can I extend my stay?As well as being able to arrange pre and post-trip accommodation for you, there are also add on packages so you can extend your holiday. Spend some more time in bustling Cairo, visit the rose city of Petra and the stunning scenery of Wadi Rum or take an excursion to historic Alexandria. Or add on some hiking in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and visit the Berber villages.

How do I get to my destination?Because our passengers fly in from all over the world, and to give you the chance to grab great flight deals locally, we do not include flights with our packages. You’ll be able to source the best deals either from the internet or your travel agent. We include a meet & greet at the airport and transfers to your hotel at all our destinations, except Turkey, which means a stress free start of your holiday!

Can I learn to dive?Topdeck’s Learn to Dive in Dahab is the perfect trip for people learning to dive. All equipment (with the exception of the dive manual) is included in the trip price.

If you are an experienced diver and need a refresher course, these can be booked for an additional USD$30. Guided dives are also available for passengers who already have an Open Water Licence and had been for a dive within the last six months (supplement applies).

What kind of transportation does Topdeck use? From 1st Class recliner seat trains, to 4*luxury Nile cruise boats, to the latest model air-conditioned mini-buses – our choice and quality of each mode of transportation (all included in your trip price) will ensure you arrive at each destination feeling refreshed and ready to explore.

Please note that for operational reasons we sometimes substitute private luxury coaches in place of overnight trains in Egypt. We do this because often a group can be split over several carriages on the train. If we use our own air-conditioned coaches we can guarantee the groups stays together and is in a more comfortable environment. This will not affect your itinerary or places visited.

What should I bring? It’s mostly dry and varies between hot days and mild nights in the summer months to warm days and cool nights in the winter. Lightweight cottons and linens are recommended for the summer with some warmer clothing needed for winter. For trips that include a felucca sail, it is important that you bring a sleeping bag with you. Be sure to bring a swimming costume with you (although for winter departures this isn’t as important!). Don’t forget you will be travelling in a predominantly Muslim country where dress codes are less liberal than maybe in your own country. Many sites require shoulders to be covered. A sarong is a handy piece of clothing to add as they are light, and can be used as a shawl, skirt or for a sunbathing blanket.

How do I get my visa?Visa requirements change and can vary from nationality to nationality. While most nationalities can get a visa on arrival it is best to check with the local Consulate. At all times obtaining the correct visa is your responsibility.

Currency...Local currency is easily available from the numerous cash machines but you should have some cash (US$ or AU$) with you on arrival. You should advise your bank that you are travelling to the chosen country so they are aware and will not block your card when you try to withdraw cash.

Tipping...Tipping is expected and is a way of life in the regions featured in this brochure. They are all small amounts and your Trip Leader will advise you the correct amount so you won’t get confused and part with too much

A Handy Tip...Check our website for the most up to date information or check our forums for handy tips from past passengers.

CANCELLATION OR MODIFICATION BY US8. Every effort will be made to operate all trips as advertised but it must be remembered that our trips are planned up to eighteen months in advance. We therefore reserve the sole right, at our discretion, to modify or cancel any trip, accommodation or arrangement at any time. We will notify You as soon as possible of any changes and they will form part of our contract with You. In the case of any material modification or cancellation, we will, if possible, provide You with three alternatives:

(1) a trip of an equivalent or closely similar standard and price, if available;

(2) a trip of a lower standard together with a refund of the difference in price; or

(3) cancellation with a full refund of all monies paid.

9. A material modification is one which has a serious effect on your trip and includes a change of departure date, departure point or airport, or change of departure time of more than twelve hours, which would cause substantial inconvenience to You. We do not consider a change of accommodation, or transport style a material change. Please note that in Egypt because of demand for train tickets we often use our own coaches for overnight journeys.

10. We will endeavour not to materially modify or cancel the trip within 42 days of the date of the scheduled departure unless compelled to do so because of circumstances beyond our reasonable control . If a material modification or cancellation is made by us within six weeks of the scheduled departure date for reasons other than Force Majeure in accordance with clause 19 You will receive compensation as stated in the scale below.

Period before scheduled departure date that we notify You or your travel agent together with the compensation offered.

Over 42 days nil 42-29 days $50 28-14 days $75 13-7 days $100 6-0 days $200

11. Topdeck reserves to itself the sole right to require a minimum number of participants for certain trips and in the event that there are insufficient bookings recorded by not later than 42 days before the scheduled departure date we will be entitled to cancel the scheduled trip, whereupon all monies paid by You for your Topdeck trip shall be refunded but no further compensation will be paid and You and Topdeck hereby agree to mutually release each other from any further obligations which would have been enforceable had the trip not been cancelled.

12. We reserve the right to alter or substitute the type of vehicle or style of transport mentioned in the brochure, depending on the number of passengers carried, which can vary from trip to trip. The average group size is 20.

OUR LIABILITY TO YOU13. Save where the provisions of Force Majeure apply, in the event that the trip does not reasonably comply with the description in the brochure, Topdeck may compensate You to a maximum value equal to twice the price of the trip but excluding insurance premiums and amendment fees AND Topdeck will only be liable to pay the maximum amount of compensation where there has been a total failure of consideration for your payment. Where the failure to provide such trip is not caused by any fault of Topdeck, its agents or suppliers or is caused by or contributed to by You, Topdeck will not be liable to pay any compensation.

14. If You are killed, injured or become ill during or as a result of, carriage by ship, train or coach forming part of the trip in circumstances where such death, injury or illness is not caused by or contributed to by You our liability to pay damages and/or the amount of compensation we will be liable to pay is limited in accordance with the liability of a carrier under any international Convention applicable to such events, including, but not limited to:

• In respect of carriage by sea: the Athens Convention 1974;

• In respect of carriage by rail, the Berne Convention 1961; and,

* In respect of carriage by road, the Geneva Convention 1973.

15. The terms of these Conventions are incorporated into and form part of our contract with You. You should know that the carrier will rely upon its ‘conditions of carriage’ which may limit or remove the carrier’s liability to You and limit compensation under any international Conventions.

16. In the event that Topdeck (or its insurers) make any payment to You for death, personal injury or illness, You must give us or our insurers all and any rights You may have to take action against the party responsible for causing the death, personal injury or illness and You must co-operate fully with us in seeking recovery of any payment we may make from such party.

17. Your booking is accepted on the understanding that You appreciate the possible risks inherent in adventure travel and that You undertake the trips featured in this brochure of your own volition. Every effort will be made to operate all trips featured in this brochure but because of the

number of countries visited on trips there may be a necessity to vary the itinerary from that stated in the brochure, and delays may occur for a variety of reasons beyond our control. The need for a flexible attitude to this type of travel is stressed in our publication. The final decision on the itinerary and the content of the trip will be taken by the Trip Leader, as appointed by us in the interest of the group as a whole. Please note that due to Public holidays some sights or activities may not be available on a particular trip.

18. No refund will be made for services made available by Topdeck but which for whatever reason are not used by You once the trip has departed.

If You want to take part in such optional activities or excursions You must be fit enough to do so and must follow all reasonable instructions. The standards of health and safety which will be adopted by the company or the individual providing the optional activity or excursion will be those of the country where the optional activity or excursion takes place. Please note that these standards may not be the same as You would find in the UK, or in Your home country. If You wish to book any optional excursion or activity, You may do so subject to the operator’s terms and conditions. Your contract will be with the operator of the activity or excursion and will be governed by local law. Topdeck acts only as their agent. Topdeck’s Tour Leader will have further details and additional information can be found on our website. Topdeck accepts no liability for any act or omission of any operator, its employees, agents or sub-contractors.

CONTRAVENTION OF LAWWe will not be responsible for any loss or damage sustained by You as a result of a contravention of any law or regulation of any of the countries visited while on the trip.

HEALTH AND MEDICAL CONDITIONS21. If You have a medical condition or disability which may affect your trip, we ask that You inform us in writing at the time of booking the trip of any special arrangements required by You so that we are able to advise as to the suitability of those arrangements. If we reasonably feel we are unable to satisfactorily accommodate your particular needs, we reserve the right to decline the booking or ask for You to be accompanied by a person who is able to provide full assistance to You throughout your trip.

YOUR LIABILITY TO US22. We will not be responsible for expenses resulting in You being precluded from completing the trip for any reason, nor will we refund You any part of your trip cost. In all cases we will notify You of the reasons why we have taken this action. We will have no obligation to arrange for your return to the point of the trip departure where your condition manifests itself after the trip departure. We will not accept any liability if You fail to notify us of any inaccuracy in any document within 14 days of us sending them to You or your agent. While we will do our best to rectify any changes made outside this time, it is your responsibility to meet any additional costs which may be involved, except in the case of an error made by Topdeck and where there is reasonable justification for You not contacting us within the specified time. You are responsible for ensuring that all necessary travel documents including, but not limited to, passports, visas and vaccination certificates are valid and subsisting. 25. You hereby indemnify us against all third-party actions taken against us for loss or damage caused by You or arising from your participation on the trip.

26. In the event of You making a claim against Topdeck arising out of the trip, You hereby assign to us, any rights to take action against any third party supplier or any other person or party that Topdeck reasonably considers to be a party to the action and to co-operate fully with Topdeck should Topdeck or its insurers wish to enforce those rights which have been assigned to Topdeck.

27. In the event that You make a claim against us which is covered by your insurance policy, You agree to pursue the claim through your insurer either in addition to, or in substitution for, your claim against us (if any). We agree to indemnify You in respect of reasonable expenses incurred in successfully pursuing such a claim and acknowledge that any settlement made by the insurer shall not prejudice your rights against us.

28. In the event of You not making a claim before 5 working days of the maximum length of time permitted by your policy, You must assign, by letter sent by courier delivery to Topdeck not less than 5 working days prior to the said specified time, the benefit of the policy and give immediate notice of such an assignment to your insurer.

Failure to notify the Trip Leader of any problem immediately may prejudice Topdeck and may result in your ability to claim compensation from us being extinguished or reduced. Any complaint made to Topdeck following the conclusion of the trip should be made in writing within 28 days of completion of the trip. In the event that You do not notify us in writing within 28 days, Topdeck’s ability to investigate the complaint may be prejudiced and may extinguish your claim.
