The EXI 800 employs an AC induction motor and drive system and can be operated by a self-contained generator supplied by Canrig or by connecting directly to the rig’s existing AC Bus.

The complete system including the top drive, torque system and power unit can usually be installed in less than one day, typically with no rig modifications necessary. This top drive can be supplied in condition to meet ABS requirements upon request.

The EXI 800 offers all critical pipe-handling functions including elevator link-tilt, 137.2 mm (54 in.) extend/retract functionality (for making mouse hole connections) and 360° pipe handler rotation. The grabber will accommodate tool joints from 76.2 mm (3 in.) to 222.25 mm (8 3/4 in.) OD. The EXI 800 also has a 25 ton pull-down capacity.

The EXI 800 incorporates a programmable logic control (PLC) which enhances communications between the driller’s panel and the drive system, optimizes efficiency and provides important safety interlocks.

The Tesco 350/400 EXI 800 Top Drive is an electric top drive built to meet the demands of today’s highly complex drilling applications.

This top drive, capable of producing up to 800 HP (597 kW), was designed to build on its predecessor, the 350/400 EXI 600. Tesco’s EXI 800 provides an alternative choice for top drives in the 350-400 ton class of rigs. Canrig believes that providing the correct tonnage package creates economic value.
