• Total Number of Seats - 10 seats• The M.Sc degree in Biotechnology is awarded by Visva-

Bharati University to the admitted students after successful completion of the course. The curriculum, sponsored by the DBT-HRD program, is run by the Centre for Biotechnology at Visva-Bharati. Highly experienced teachers from other sister departments, such as, agriculture, botany, chemistry, mathematics, statistics, zoology etc. in addition to its own full-time faculty members take part in it.

• The main thrust areas of the course are: Cell biology, Biomolecules and Basic enzymology, Microbiology, Computer applications and Biostatistics, Genetics and Molecular Biology, Animal Biotechnology, Biotechniques, two Practical training papers etc. They also undergo summer training for 30-60 days in an Indian institute of their choice at the end of their M.Sc exam. In M.Sc Part-II the papers are: Immunology, Genetic engineering, Plant Botechnology, Intermediary Metabolism and Bioenergetics, Bioinformatics Genomics and Proteomics, Bioprocess engineering and Bioethics etc. in addition to two practical training papers. The students also undertake independent project works under the guidance of a faculty member to their choice. Well-known scientists and experts in various areas of Biotechnology are invited to deliver guest lectures and courses. Students have ready-availability of internet and computers in their classes. The Centre for Biotechnology also has vigorous research programs on Medicinal plants, Renewable energy research involving biomass and genetic engineering, ageing etc.
