More often than not, the consumer will decline out of fear of receiving too many emails or their emails getting sold to third parties.

While that is never your intention, you will have a hard time building a customer email list if you continue getting declined. Here are three ways to help get just about every customer away from the polite decline to saying “Yes!”

To make your customers feel like they are receiving something rather than dolling out their personal information, give your customers something in return for their email address.

• If you are a small hardware store, think about offering your customers a chance to win a gift card in exchange for their email.

• If you are a gym, think about sharing a free workout plan and nutrition guide in exchange for their email.

The key here is identifying what piques your customer’s attention and offering that as an added value to their email subscription. Whether that is a discount code, raffle, freebie or exclusive event invitation your customers will see value in giving out their information when they receive something in return.
