1.) Resume Writing

When writing a cover letter, make sure you have more of a YOU attitude rather than an I attitude.

2.) Job Interviewing

Bring a portfolio to show of your work.

Always try to be a few minutes early.

Leave your phone in your car.

Do not bring in a bulky purse

Bring a water bottle in case your throat becomes dry.

3.) Job Searching

When on the hunt for a job, always have an up to date resume prepared, even if you are not looking for work.

Always stay current with the news in the area you want to work in and know who making the most impact in the PR industry at the time.

4.) Creating and Sharing Your Portfolio

Before a job interview, ask the interviewer what he or she would like you to include in your portfolio.

Create a leave behind that includes some of the work you are most proud of.

5.) Using LinkedIn

This website allows you to network with other PR professionals through the web.

6.) Trips from a PR Professional

Brett Pohlman’s suggestions for someone just starting out in PR:1. “Be involved with social networks as much as you

can.”

2. “Try to think outside of the box.”

3. “Whatever you do, do it very passionately.”

7.) World Wide Rave

After reading World Wide Rave by David Meerman Scott, I learned that there are a multitude of ways to get people to spread your word.

These ways may but unconventional, but have obviously helped man.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested.

8.) Get Your Work Published!

Prior to this class, I had no idea how important it was to get published before you graduate from college.

9.) Appearances Matter in a Job Interview

What to wear: Suit or skirt suit (if skirt, wear hose). Do not wear open toed shoes. Keep piercings to 2 on each ear. Do not wear distracting jewelry. Probably best to wear no perfume/cologne at all.

10.) Preparation

I learned that early preparation is essential for a situation to run smoothly.

Plan and re-plan everything so that you do not end up getting stressed out at the last minute.
