With New Year looming ahead, it’s time to make predictions and get ready for the new
challenges. 2015 will certainly see a boom in ecommerce wherein the retail sales are slated to
reach a minimum of $350 billion in the US alone. Globally, this would be a number greater than
$1.5 trillion. Consumers will have even more power and ecommerce adds convenience to their
demands. For ecommerce marketers, here are the top 10 ammunitions to get ready with.
1. Magento
Since its launch in 2008, Magento has been the most loved ecommerce platform for the
developers. In 2015, the long awaited Magento 2 is going to lead the competition. As such, we
can expect several ecommerce platforms to switch over to Magento.
2. Bigger screens
Phones are getting more powerful and bigger. Soon, we can expect smart devices to replace our
laptops and desktops. 2014 already saw the surge in demand for big screen gadgets and this
trend is going to continue through 2015. Now, bigger phones will only mean more convenient
browsing and more reasons for a customer to order through his/her phone.
3. Social shopping
Technology is getting more human every day and this only gives impetus to processes like social
shopping. We can expect some start-up to come up with a carefully integrated shopping
community and recommendation engine just like we have with Wordpress or Tumblr. Social
shopping will present a much broader ecosystem to ecommerce platform in 2015.
4. Apps
Shopping apps have been there for quite some time but it is only now that they are getting more
popular than their desktop alternative. Leading retailers like eBay, Amazon and Flipkart have
already taken the leap and are doing quite well through their shopping apps. In 2015, several
other retailers would be following the footsteps.
5. Apple Pay
Apple is rumored to come up with an iOS only payment gateway soon. As such, integrating
Apple Pay with your shopping portal can give you boost in reputed demographics.
6. Enhanced ecommerce
2015 will see multiple ecommerce like Google Analytics being simplified for users. This will
allow marketers and ecommerce developers to compare category pages across categories. While
some issues are yet to be fixed, this New Year will certainly see them resolved and become
functional.
7. Cross device tracking
The modern shoppers own and use several different devices. Cross device tracking will inform
the marketer with important statistics like which time of the day a customer uses a particular
device, what device is more preferable for a particular type of shopping, and similar stuffs. Cross
device tracking can give a beneficial boost to opportunist promotions.
8. Google
Google is not just a search engine as most would consider but an all round platform integrating
email services (Gmail), mapping, advertisement and every aspect of the internet world. While
the IT giant is expected to continue its hold Google Analytics would be a great ecommerce
element to focus upon.
9. Customer journeys / multichannel integration
A customer journey is a never ending process. Shopping never stops, though the shop may. The
marketer in 2015 cannot choose to get complacent that he will be getting the regular traffic
anyhow. Consequently, they will have to set of traps in all directions to lead the customer back to
the same website.
10. Testing and CRO
Finally, websites that thing that they have done everything right have more chances of failing.
Successful entrepreneurs on the other hand will be investing more on testing and CRO of
ecommerce stores to keep it updated, interesting, reliable and secure.
