SHE WAS BORN IN LORAIN,(OHIO) IN FEBRUARY 18,1931;

CHLOE ANTHONY WOFFORD;

Graduated from Howard University in 1953;

Worked at Texas Southern University in Houston;

In 1957 she returned to Howard University as a member of faculty;

Her first son, Harold Ford, was born in 1961;

Joined a small writer's group as a temporary escape from an unhappy married life;

Her marriage deteriorated, and while pregnant with their second child;

In 1964 Morrison worked as a textbook subsidiary of Random House in New York as an associate editor;

From 1971-1972 Morrison was the associate professor of English at the State University of New York;

From 1976-1977, she was a visiting lecturer at Yale University in New Haven;

In 1983, Morrison left her position at Random House, having worked there for almost twenty years;

In 1984 she was named the Albert Schweitzer Professor of the Humanities at the State University of New York in Albany;
