The charring of the cladding creates a layer of carbonised wood. This layer makes the timber highly resistant to insects, water and even fire. Yakisugi Charred Cladding is also virtually maintenance free, and coated in a Clear Oil to seal the timber and emphasise the colour.

Exterior Usage

Full Char - This process involves heavily charring the timber to achieve a thick layer of char on the surface of the board. This layer serves as a natural barrier to the elements and is therefore best used for exterior surfaces.

Texture Options

Interior Usage

Burnt and Brushed - involves charring the timber and then brushing it by hand to achieve a smooth, sleek finish. By removing the carbon layer however you remove the natural barrier to the elements and is therefore best used for interiors or sheltered exteriors.

Flame Licked - timber is slightly charred to accentuate the wood grain while still showing the natural colour of the timber.

Maintenance

Although Yakisugi Charred Cladding is famous for its low maintenance requirements, regular maintenance can drastically enhance the lifespan of your cladding.

Depending on the look desired, Yakisugi Cladding can require a clean and approximately once per year.

Level of exposure to the harsh Australian Conditions plays a significant part in determining the maintenance required, and this should be discussed between the client and the builder.
