Tom Anagnost Coached Miami Hurricanes (Women’s Soccer Team) That Won the ACC Opener in 2011

Tom Anagnost is a soccer coach who has served the University of Miami and Central Michigan University with complete dedication and commitment. During Tom's employment with the University of Miami and Central Michigan, the women's soccer teams were at their best in program history.

It was under the leadership of Tom Anagnost that the Miami Hurricanes (women's soccer team) won 3-2 in double overtime in the ACC opener. It was a great match between Miami and Clemson where the Hurricanes continued to pressure their opponents. It was only four minutes into the first half, the team was on the board, when a perfectly passed ball from a player connected with another for a nifty header that reached the back of the net to score a goal. A wonderful show was exhibited by the team and they celebrated a great victory.

Tom said that Junior Kate Howarth did an outstanding job with two goals, and freshman Ashley Flinn won it for the Hurricanes in the extra time, as she scored her first collegiate goal. Both players were extremely dangerous in the game. He said that his team was very resilient throughout the game and played really well; however, Clemson also played well and gave their players a tough fight.

He further described that the opponents countered against the run of play just five minutes later as Rachel Hurd passed the ball for a goal. After a quick opening 20 minutes, neither of the teams could call up one more quality scoring prospect and thus, the Miami Hurricanes went into the break with a lead of 2-1.

Tom said that the Clemson team made the game very difficult in the second half and put a lot of pressure on the Hurricanes tying it at 2-2. However, in overtime the aggressive Miami women managed to break all the barriers and achieve the winning score. The entire program was very happy with the win, especially being the first ACC opponent who dominated them the spring before. It was already very apparent that Tom Anagnost made an enormous imprint in the program as the University's women's soccer coach.
