since they have a certain reasoning behind it.Their reasoning can be argued upon but not

proven false.

Math and Beauty Since differing perceptions hinders the

process of judging who is actually beautiful a mathematical process can be used.

Golden ratio It is defined as a line that can be divided

into two parts such that the longer part divided by the smaller part is equal to the whole line divided by the longer part. Although mathematical it is used in an aesthetic sense.

So should we leave it to math to decide who is beautiful?

Mona Lisa is known to have the perfect golden ratio i.e. the perfect bodily proportions.

Reason and Math• As seen even math which is

the most logical approach to deciding who is beautiful it is not exactly feasible as seen before.

Reason and EmotionEvery rationale decision/perception is always

affected in some way or the other by emotion.

This can lead to two things-1)A bias in the opinion formed like the mother

and child example.2) A need to change oneself to conform to the

accepted standard of ‘beauty’. Plastic Surgery.

Emotion and Ethics• The earlier stated point of emotions affecting

rationale decisions to look ‘beautiful’ often leads to unethical actions.

• Miss Venezuela 2009 at the age of 21 in a bid to be the ‘Most Beautiful Woman’ got a nose job done.

• This shows the length people are willing to go at such a young age to look beautiful.

• Miami plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Salzhauer says, “Plastic surgery is very common amongst beauty pageant contestants. Majority of contestants have augmented their breasts and refined their noses. The nose being the center of the face can improve the look and symmetry of the face, and enhancing the breast can create an ideal figure. Those are two areas that most consider key components involved in the judgment of physical beauty.”

• In an interview (posted on Make Me Heal) with Celestrellas 21-year old Miss Venezuela says, “Yes, I had a nose job. I wasn’t sure about it first, but after the operation I was really happy with the result. Sometimes it’s good to give natural beauty a little help.”

• Ethics in this sense has been completely ruined in the concept of beauty, as people have started organizing beauty pageants for toddlers and children.• Toddlers and Tiaras • Encouraging children to look at

Conclusion• Thus we can see the knowledge issue brought

out earlier on beauty is related to different aspects of life- Math, Science, Ethics and is greatly influenced by our perception, reasoning, and emotions.

To conclude we feel that beauty does truly lie in the eye of the beholder and as such cannot be defined by any one person or logic.
