RAMADAN IN SYRIA 2016From our various kitchens which have been set up all over Syria, our team on the ground delivered hot food for iftar to displaced families, widows and orphans. Our team prepared and deliver the food to the neediest in rural, and difficult to reach areas such as Latakia, Idlib, Aleppo, Hama and the refugee camps along the Turkey and Syria border. Thanks to your donations, we also helped to feed our brothers and sisters in the South Damascus areas of Yarmouk and Ghouta. South Damascus has been under siege for over 3 years, which makes it incredibly difficult as well as expensive to provide the citizens with basic necessities. One Nation always aims to help the most needy in the hardest-to-reach besieged areas, those who have been forgotten and to whom aid doesn’t come as readily.

Thanks to your donations, thousands of people benefitted daily throughout the month of Ramadan and we are happy to announce that we will be continuing this amazing project for Ramadan 2017.

Your donations are vital in providing us with the means to carry out this emergency relief work. Please continue to support.

Potatoesfor SyriaOur team also delivers trucks of potatoes into Syria every month.

10 million people are in Urgent need of aid inside Syria, To put into perspective, that’s more than the combined population of Ireland and New Zealand.

For many people trapped inside Syria, the scarcity of food is an even greater threat to their lives than bombs and snipers. 3 million people are living in besieged areas, where nothing can get in or out. Children are dying of starvation, and people are reduced to eating dogs and cats. Lack of adequate nutrition makes people more prone to disease and less able to cope with injuries, leading to an endless cycle of death.

Besieged areas in syriaMADAYA, YARMOUK, GHOUTA, HOMS, ALEPPO

Nearly 400,000 Syrians starving in besieged areasAn estimated 400,000 people are living under siege in 15 areas across Syria, according to the UN. Many people in those areas have little to no access to food, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of innocent people. In Madaya alone, at least 23 people died of starvation in between November 2015 to January 2016 according to the charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

Reports of widespread malnutrition have emerged, some of them suggesting that Madaya residents are resorting to eating grass and insects for survival.

Thanks to your donations and support, Our team delivered much needed aid to these people in their time of need.

MADAYAIn Madaya we distributed, baby milk, rice, hot food and firewood which is used to cook the food and also to keep warm.

Dispatch From A Madaya MotherJanuary 19, 2016

Today has been a difficult day for the family. They felt ill for much of the night from severe stomach pains and vomiting. The mom says their stomachs are having trouble digesting food since they’ve been hungry for so long.

“Today our one meal was rice and bean soup... our bodies are no longer used to eating, my children are hungry but are getting sick, severe stomach pains from the food because their bodies aren’t able to digest and absorb the food because they were hungry for so long”

“When we wake up, we drink mint or thyme tea from the garden - with a little bit of sugar. It keeps the children from being hungry for a while.”

“I’m up now, at 2:00 am to heat up the house. It snowed yesterday and it’s really cold. So we’re breaking up the closet for firewood. We’ve already used the big dresser. And we’re lucky because we have wood furniture, others don’t.”

One of the Arabic words for bread is “Aysh,” which is also the word for life.

Bread has always been a critical staple of the Syrian diet. Before the conflict, it was inexpensive and eaten with nearly every meal. Now, during this very tiring and traumatic time, access to bread helps provide many Syrian families with a sense of normality and stability.

One Nation works with bread factories within the region to help provide truck loads of flour to refugees both in refugee camps and needy areas within Syria. This project has dual benefits; huge numbers of refugees are fed and jobs are provided for people in the bread factories, paving the way for a self-sustainable future.

Thanks to your donations, One Nation are now sending2 TRUCKS FULL OF FLOUR EVERY MONTH to make fresh bread which helps to feed thousands of people in the refugee camps and in the most needy areas inside Syria.

The first word revealed to our prophet (Peace be upon him) from Allah swt was “Iqra” which means to Read, to seek knowledge. At One Nation, we believe that Education is vital for the development and improvement of individuals and societies and have focussed on providing the education and Tarbiyah that the Syrian people deserve in order to become self sufficient and help build a better future.

In Syria. 6 years of brutal conflict in Syria have reversed more than a decade of progress in children’s education. There are today more than 5 million Syrian children of school age. Inside Syria, 2.5 million of them do not have access to education, while more than a million refugee children are not in education outside Syria. The numbers are rising by the day.

Thanks to your donations, One Nation is now helping to educate 300 Hafiz in various institutes Inside Syria and 100 Orphans in our Project Hope camp. The age ranges from 4-16 years old and the schools also provide vital psychological support for the affected children of the crisis. Thanks to your donations, One Nation will strive to provide the education that we would all want for our own children to acquire, to children around the world.

The lack of clean water and sanitation in crowded, makeshift settlements is an urgent concern. Diseases like Cholera and Polio can easily spread, and are made even more life-threatening without the correct medical services. In the areas with the largest refugee populations, water shortages have reached emergency levels; the supply is as low as 30 litres per person per day — one-tenth of what the average UK resident uses.

One Nation are now producing water wells and sending water bottles inside Syria that will help to provide fresh clean water to the most needy.

Each water well project costs approximately £1,400 depending on the location, and In-Sha-Allah can also be a Sadaqah Jaariya project (ongoing charity).

HOSPITALSEquipment & AMBULANCESAfter five years of war, more than 6 million refugees who are displaced within Syria face a health care disaster. The UNHCR estimates 60 percent of the country’s hospitals have been damaged or destroyed and nearly half of its doctors have fled. The crisis has hit children especially hard, with 10,000 deaths and many more suffering from serious injuries and diseases due to the lack of medicine and medical staff. Many people are losing lives solely because of a severe lack of basic healthcare in Syria, with children and babies especially affected.

One Nation is now assisting many clinics inside Syria which help the innocent civilians caught up in this crisis. We are currently purchasing medical equipment to help equip the Hospitals and field clinics in Idlib and are also currently raising donations for an underground Neuro-Trauma centre.

Thanks to your donations, we have purchased 2 CT scanners and also purchased more than £50,000 worth of the life saving Celox kits and bandages which was sent to our partner clinics and field hospitals in the most needy areas such as Aleppo and Idlib. Celox is a haemostatic agent, which is used to treat shrapnel injuries, gunshot wounds and penetrating traumas. It helps to stem blood gushing out from an injured individual by creating a blood clot within 3 minutes. It truly is a life saver.

6 ambulances have been sent in our aid containers and have been delivered to our partner hospitals in Syria.

Syria qurbani2016What is Eid Al-Adha?In the religion of Islam, ‘Id Al-Adha or Eid al-Adha (Arabic

ض

أ Festival of the Sacrifice”) is a major festival that“ ,عيد ال

takes place at the end of the Hajj. It is also known as ‘Id al-Qurban or al-’Id al-Kabir (Major Festival). Eid al-Adha marks the completion of the hajj (pilgrimage) rites at Mina, Saudi Arabia, but is also observed by Muslims throughout the world to commemorate the faith of Ibrahim (Abraham).

Eid Al-Adha begins on the 10th of Dhu’l-Hijja, the last month of the Islamic calendar, and lasts for fours days. It begins the day after Muslims on the Hajj descend from Mount Arafat.

Meaning of the FestivalThe festival commemorates Allah’s gift of a ram in place of Isma’il (Ishmael), whom God had commanded Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice. (In Judaism and Christianity, the child in this story is Ishmael’s brother Isaac.)

Eid al-Adha is a celebration of this supreme example of submission to God, which is the cornerstone of the Islamic faith.

On Eid al-Adha, families that can afford it sacrifice an animal such as a sheep, goat, camel, or cow, and then divide the meat among themselves, the poor, friends and neighbours.

In 2016 Alhumdulillah, One Nation completed all your Qurbanis and all the meat was distributed inside Syria in the cities of Aleppo and Idlib to the most needy families, widows and orphans.

Thank you to all who participated in our Qurbani project in Syria.

May the Almighty accept it from you all.

Aqiqah in SyriaHOT FOOD - RICE AND MEAT FOR ORPHANS AND WIDOWSAlhumdulillah for your new born child, One Nation is now offering Aqiqah do be done in Syria where the meat is distributed to the most needy orphans and widows in sha Allah.

Aqiqah, in Islamic terminology, is defined as sacrifice of an animal on the occasion of a child’s birth.

There are many benefits in the performance of Aqiqah and being bestowed a child is a great blessing from the Creator.

Throughout 2015/16, the One Nation team on the ground have performed many Aqiqahs. Aqiqahs are highly encouraged, and is to be performed by the parents or guardian of the child.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions used to perform Aqiqah when they were bestowed with a newborn.

1 sheep is sacrificed for a girl and 2 for a boy.

The following is a hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) where he advised Aqiqah of a goat/sheep.

Narrated Umm Kurz: The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Two sheep which resemble each other are to be sacrificed for a boy and one for a girl.

Winter in SyriaDespite reaching temperatures of up to 45 degree Celsius in some areas during the summer, winter in Syria can be very harsh and include prolonged periods of snow and temperatures below zero. Out of the 7 million men, women, boys and girls who are estimated to be internally displaced, many have left without adequate clothing and have to stay in make-shift shelters, which leaves them extremely vulnerable to rain, snow and freezing temperatures.

Thanks to your donations, our team delivered stove heaters, diesel fuel, blankets and jackets to hundreds of Families in the Refugee camps inside Syria and this will help save lives and bring them comfort during the harshest days and nights.

Widows & ORPHANS CAMP in syria

Syria’s ongoing conflict, now in its 5th year, has torn apart countless families. Entire communities have been uprooted, scattering large populations within Syria and driving over 5 million people into surrounding countries. Children have been particularly affected, many of them becoming refugees, some separated from one or both parents and sometimes with no adult caregiver at all. There are an estimated 600,000 widows and orphans inside Syria with the numbers growing rapidly by the day.

In 2014, One Nation secured a “Widows and Orphans” camp inside Syria where we are helping to support those who have lost their husbands and parents to war.

In the harsh difficult winter of 2014, many of the tin roofs of each cabin blew off in the difficult conditions, along with a huge amount of other damage to the camp. Thanks to your donations, the camp was fully repaired. In fact, One Nation carried out a number of improvements to the camp. Partitions were created in each cabin to an additional room, additional water tanks were fitted around the camp, all huts were given access to electricity and the previously muddy ground was filled with gravel, providing a healthier environment for all of our residents.

Sister FatimaI lived in a safe place with my husband and children, we had everything we needed. We had a very happy life. My life changed 1 year after the war started when my husband died. He was my love and my friend. The regime killed him and he passed away, my life became empty. Life became difficult for me and I was living in a tent with my children. Then we got taken into this building which is very safe and clean and also helps provide my children with food and education. Thank you to One Nation for building this camp. It has helped us give our children a better life.

Greece projects

Lebanon containers

During the refugee crisis that hit Europe in 2015 and 2016, over a million refugees crossed into Europe and many travelled through Greece. In 2016 over 60,000 refugees were stuck in Greece and the need for humanitarian aid was urgent.

Our team visited Greece and helped to assist many refugees who have fled from war torn countries such as Syria , Iraq and Afghanistan.

Your donations helped to feed 2500 refugees over 10 days in the Softex Refugee Camp and the Thessaloniki Centre. Our team also helped to house many families and provide clothing and furniture.

Lebanon is the neighbouring country hit the hardest by the Syria crisis. With more than 1.5 million Syrian refugees, compounded with other refugee communities hosted by the country, Lebanon accounts for the highest refugee per capita.

A country of 4.4 million inhabitants, is hosting more than 1 million registered Syrian refugees.

Since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis in 2011, hundreds of thousands of refugees have crossed into Lebanon seeking safety and shelter, more than 75% of which are children and women. The Lebanese government and local and international agencies working in Lebanon are becoming overwhelmed by the Syrian crisis.

One Nation delivered 2 containers of humanitarian aid to help the Syrian

refugees in Lebanon. The aid was distributed in the Beka valley areas of Rachaya and El Marj.

We would like to thank Salam LADC for helping to distribute the aid in Lebanon and our teams in High Wycombe and the Highland support for refugees team in Scotland for their hard work and kind donations for this project.

The devastation caused during the 2014 sustained military assault in Gaza was unprecedented. Half a million people were displaced, 60,000 homes were damaged or destroyed and Gaza’s infrastructure was obliterated.

The conflict may be over, but for over 108,000 people, the nightmares live on. There is limited access to food, water, medicine and electricity which

makes them reliant on your ongoing support.

One Nation is now working on many projects in Gaza such as the distribution of food parcels and clean water, providing education, supplying food for iftar in Ramadan as well as rebuilding homes and providing medication to those that need it the most.

Our partners operate in all areas of the Gaza strip and we work closely with the local Hospitals to get medical aid to the most needy.

We’re doing all we can to help rebuild lives in Gaza, but the road is long. We can do nothing without your help.

WINTER PROJECTS 2015/2016In the winter months between 2015/2016 our team delivered Winter clothing including coats, boots and gloves.

Our team also delivered electric heaters, Winter blankets and mattresses to the most needy families in the Khan Younis areas of Gaza.

Food parcelsOur team delivers food parcels every month to the most needy families, widows and orphans in Gaza.

Alipore dental surgeryOne Nation are supporting Alipore Hospital in India with a new Dental Surgery Project.

Although, dental care is a part of primary health care in India, dental care services are available in very few states at the primary health care level. Patients are not covered under any type of insurance, and generally pay out of their pockets to get treatment from both public and private dentists.

One Nation helped to fund a dental clinic in the Alipore Hospital to help with growing needs of the population in the surrounding areas. It will help to assist thousands of people every year with the latest dental treatment available. Our team will continue to assist in many projects to help the most needy in India. Thank you to all who donated.

Ramadan food parcelsFood parcels were delivered to the most needy families, widows and orphans in the Surat District of India. India accounted for the largest number of people living below international poverty line in 2013, with 30% of its population under the $1.90 a day poverty measure. India accounts for 1 in 3 of the poor population worldwide. Your donation help make a huge difference.

QurbaniOur team completed the Qurbani in India and the meat was distributed to the most needy people living in the West Bengal areas. We hope to continue this project in the coming years with your continued support.

Sudan urgent appealIn Eritrea, your last year of high school is also your first year in the army. Rebels from the country fought a 30 year war against its much larger neighbour Ethiopia, and, because of a continuing land dispute, hostilities are still considered active. The rest of the world doesn’t hear too much about Eritrea as foreign media is generally barred from the country. Sudan, a 3rd world neighbouring country receives a large chunk of the 5,000 refugees who flee Eritrea on a monthly basis.

There are now over 100,000 Eritrean refugees living in 15 camps in Sudan and with hardly any food, or medicine, many are facing starvation and death. Due to the ongoing urgent crisis, One Nation visited the camps in east Sudan to help with the relief efforts. We provided food and medicine to those most in the need in the camps near Khasala. Please continue to support the needy in Sudan.

Sierra Leone remains among the world’s poorest countries, ranking 180th out of 187 countries in the Human Development Index in 2011. Decades of economic decline and 11 years of armed conflict had dramatic consequences on the economy. Poverty remains widespread with more than 60% of the population living on less than US$ 1.25 a day and unemployment and illiteracy levels remain high, particularly among youth.

One Nation have now started to work in Sierra Leone to help provide food, education and Medical aid.

We implemented the following projects:

• Rice bags to 233 to families and orphans• 25 students education costs were covered for the year• Qurbani was completed and over 2000 beneficiaries

National interests and media attention, rather than need, often determine how governments as well as private donors prioritise what to give towards. At One Nation, our aim is deliver aid to those regions and to those people who have been forgotten but are equally or more in need of long term support in order to help rebuild their lives and communities.

Between the months of June and December 2015, Approximately 4000 Refugees were arriving on a daily basis in Lesvos. The refugees were predominantly from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Eritrea, Sudan and Pakistan, many of whom were women and children. Clothing, food and general assistance was urgently needed in the areas of Molyvos where the boats were arriving and also in the Kara Tape and Moria camps in Mytilini. Reports stated hundreds of refugees were sleeping through the Winter and Spring months on the streets of Lesvos.

One Nation visited the island, to evaluate the needs and help in delivering clothing, food and shelter. The team visited Lesvos from the 31st of October to the 13th of November. Every morning, our team provided food for the people at the port in Mytilene and then

travelled to Molyvos, Scala areas to assist the people who were arriving off the boats. It was a truly saddening experience where they saw mothers, babies, people who were injured from bombings and even pregnant women arriving and sometimes falling unconscious as soon as they were taken off the boats. Many of the children were shivering and had to be given thermal blankets and warmer clothes to stop them catching hypothermia. As the temperatures dropped and the seas were getting rougher around November, more assistance was needed.

This journey and the aid distribution gave us an unprecedented insight into the situation that the people are facing. We hope and pray that the Almighty eases the suffering of the people.

Dispatch from Lesvos“My husband and I sold everything we had to afford the journey. We worked 15 hours a day in Turkey until we had enough money to leave. The smuggler put 152 of us on a boat. Once we saw the boat, many of us wanted to go back, but he told us that anyone who turned back would not get a refund. We had no choice. Both the lower compartment and the deck were filled with people. Waves began to come into the boat so the captain told everyone to throw their baggage into the sea. In the ocean we hit a rock, but the captain told us not to worry. Water began to come into the boat, but again he told us not to worry. We were in the lower compartment and it began to fill with water. It was too tight to move. Everyone began to scream. We were the last ones to get out alive. My husband pulled me out of the window. In the ocean, he took off his life jacket and gave it to a woman. We swam for as long as possible. After several hours he told me he that he was too tired to swim and that he was going to float on his back and rest. It was so dark we could not see. The waves were high. I could hear him calling me but he got further and further away. Eventually a boat found me. They never found my husband.” (Greece)

UK projectsCumbria & Hebden bridge floodsSaturday 12th December 2015Our teams visited the Keswick Convention centre and teamed up with Team Rubicon UK. We were sent to a street in Keswick and helped the families by cleaning their homes, gardens and driveways. Thanks to your donations, we also provided much needed food, water, cleaning equipment and most importantly, man power that were used to help in further relief efforts. Some of the homes that we saw had been completely ruined and will take months to be habitable again.

Saturday 19th December 2015We were designated the Greta pre school which was one of the hardest hit areas due to it being directly next to the river. Thanks to all the volunteers, the school playground was cleaned quickly, meaning the children were happily back at school as soon as possible!

Monday 28th December 2015Our team visited the flood affected areas of Yorkshire to offer our help.

We visited the Sowerby bridge church to coordinate relief efforts with the teams there. There was an overwhelming number of volunteers wanting to help and all the teams got split up into different groups to then cover different areas. The areas were Copley, Hebden Bridge, Todmorden and Mytholmroyd.

We also visited the Hebden bridge town hall which had a huge number of people seeking refuge. Here, and in the Nanholme Mills area we came across homes and business premises which were under a meter of water. Fortunately, the One Nation team came prepared with wellington boots, brushes and mops and got stuck in!

Near Todmorden, there was flooding in a number of basements. In one particular case, one of the kitchens had been completely immersed in water which resulted in us completely taking what was left of the kitchen out.

It's truly heartbreaking to see the devastation that the floods have caused, yet at the same time, this has truly been a moment that bonded so many people of different backgrounds and faiths together.

Thank you to all the volunteers from all the charities, groups that have helped in the last few weeks and also to the Local NGO’s in Cumbria and Yorkshire and all the people who have been so welcoming and always greeted us with smiles.

One Nation would like to express its token of appreciation to all volunteers, Team Rubicon UK, Keswick convention centre, Hebden Bridge Town Hall and Rachel Brandwood MP of Walsden.

Around 5.8 million people in the UK live in ‘deep poverty’, making it hard for them to afford every day essentials, including food. The implications of poverty are vast and as a community, we have a responsibility to look after our neighbours in order to build a just, caring and loving society.

Ibn Az-Zubair reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, “He is not a believer whose stomach is filled while the neighbour to his side goes hungry.”

One Nation has been actively involved in various homeless/needy projects across West Yorkshire for around 3 years and have identified the need to help those who are struggling with the essentials such as food, blankets, toiletries, as well as providing psychological support for the disaffected.

We are currently working with existing food banks in the West Yorkshire area, but our long-term aims are to establish our own projects with trained, qualified personnel who can help build a better future for our neighbours in need.

Our team distributed food to the homeless and needy in the Leeds and Bradford areas.

It was so heart warming to see the happiness and hope on the peoples faces and for them to know that there is someone there to help, makes a huge difference to their lives.

Thank you for your continued support and donations.

More than a million migrants and refugees crossed into Europe between 2015 and 2016 sparking a humanitarian crisis as countries struggled to cope with the influx.

Around 40,000 refugees entered the UK in the last 2 years and thousands fled with their families from war torn countries. Many families came with nothing but the clothes on their back and we felt that it was our duty to help make it easy for them to settle in the UK.

Hope 4 Humanity was set up to support local asylum seekers and refugees in the Leicester areas who have been displaced due to the ongoing conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Eritrea and other countries. We provide a service which is tailored to the individual needs of each person or Family. Our aim is to help make life more comfortable and support them to help rebuild their lives.

We provide the following services:Food parcels, Carpets, Furniture, Bedding, Toiletries, Painting/Decorating, School Admissions, Translating, Emotional Support, Social Inclusion, Signposting.

Thanks to your donations and support, we helped to house many families and provide much needed essentials such as bedding, kitchen essentials, irons, microwaves and other items. The referrals came from local organisations based in Leicester such as British Red Cross and TREC (The Race Equality Centre).

“From a Syrian Family”I have known them for 7 months and they helped my family a lot. They regularly visit my home and they also help us with drop-offs for school. Rukhsana is like a family friend and her and Saira have helped so many people settle in the UK regardless of their religion or nationality.

“Refugee”I was an engineer, but the situation in our country became worse for me and I had to leave. I left everything behind and when I came to the UK, I felt scared until I met this team. They have a beautiful heart and they cared about us.

“Sister from Ethiopia”I received a Sofa and the rest of the items. We would like to thank you so much for your help and we will pray for you. We really appreciate it and means a lot.
