Who We Are And What We Do
“Hoopin’ For Change”
The Gil Basketball Academy (GBA) was started in 2010 by Jose Gil, Founder and Executive Director of the Gil Basketball Academy (GBA). GBA is designed to teach athletes the proper fundamentals of basketball along with teaching them sportsmanship, team play, positive work ethics, and at the same time acquire new and lasting friendships.
GBA offers, camps, clinics, and individual sessions teaching athletes the skills and techniques of shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding, and defense. The athletes will be coached by Jose Gil and other qualified and experienced coaches. GBA is about teaching not only basketball, but this academy will build confidence and character in all GBA members while having fun.
The Gil Basketball Academy was formed to promote the sport of basketball in East Salinas, as well as the overall development of local student-athletes by providing experiences through field trips. University tours is a top priority for our academy.
GBA / MST Van Project
MST donated 2 vans to GBA for transportation purposes of Student-Athletes in 2011.
Since then, we have spent months trying to revitalize the look and condition of the vans to the point where they can be utilized to transport kids on a regular basis.

We are hoping to soon get one of your retired MST buses to transport many kids at once!
Impact On Our Youth & Community
“Hoopin’ For Change”
GBA’s goal is to help the youth in our community "Shoot for, and Reach their goals" by participating in an organized basketball skills academy for boys and girls ages 4 to 17. GBA offers instruction in every facet of the game of basketball from basic fundamentals, to conditioning, speed and agility training, and learning to play the game the right way with respect and honor.
Players will also get the opportunity to be exposed to life beyond Salinas. Our academic component, Project Cornerstone, will enhance our kids assets through field trips, tours, and educational lectures.
We have over 250 kids that are members, 43 volunteer coaches, and many volunteer parent’s that attend our weekly practice sessions. MST board members are welcome to any GBA function or event.

Monterey Salinas Transit cares about the youth in our community! The Gil Basketball Academy could not be made possible without the help and support from the community. As we prepare to organize this academic school year plans for our youth,
we are looking for MST to help GBA solve their transportation dilemma. By donating a bus to our academy, we can make our dream become a reality by serving the needs
of our youth and community through life changing experiences.
