Message from the MayorWe are fortunate to live in a progressive and vibrant city
that presents a large number of events and community
programs, making Townsville’s lifestyle both exciting and
enjoyable .
The Together Townsville program provides the opportunity for organisations to
honour their corporate responsibility by giving back to the wider community . The
program is more than just sponsorship; it is strategic investment that benefits all
stakeholders involved .
This publication details the Together Townsville partnering program, outlines the
benefits for your organisation, and presents available initiatives to choose from .
Council welcomes the opportunity to either form new or strengthen existing ties
with organisations while making Townsville a better place to live for all .
Les Tyrell oam
Mayor of Townsville
Executive Summary
Together Townsville is an innovative program that actively engages our corporate
and community groups in the sponsorship of council events and projects that
benefit our city and our residents .
Historically, council has sought sponsorship from organisations for various events
or projects . This ad-hoc approach was deemed to be a one-way relationship and
simply a passive handover of money from the sponsor to council with short term
brand value-recognition .
There is a definite shift from simple sponsorships to more strategic community
partnerships for many organisations . Organisations are looking for ways to
invest their time, personnel and resources to achieve objectives that benefit their
community . People, communities, governments and businesses increasingly
want to make a difference and be seen to be doing so .
This partnership program promotes mutually beneficial collaboration between
businesses and the community to provide more efficient and long-term solutions
to community issues and builds greater social cohesion .

engagement from all key stakeholders .
>> Improve relationships with all tiers of the community .

Benefits to Your Organisation
With the expansion of Townsville’s population, service expectations and
community participation continue to increase . The aim of Together Townsville is
to assist in providing and sustaining these expectations and deliver services that
will further enhance our city and our lifestyle .
A Together Townsville partnership will benefit your organisation by providing
opportunities to:
>> strengthen community ties

>> enhance your corporate social responsibility reputation on a community and
corporate level

Together Townsville is a sponsorship program that provides our partners and
sponsors a good marketing mix . It allows you to reach your target audience by
choosing initiatives that provide appropriate marketing and promotion strategies,
as well as engagement at the local level .
When council and local businesses combine resources, the result is better
programs, events and facilities for our community .
step 1. >> Council offers a variety of Initiatives allowing you to align your
sponsorship objectives with your company values .
step 2. >> Partner with council via one of its four Partnership Categories .
step 3. >> Recognition Rights .
step 4. >> Council will enter into a Partnership Agreement with organisations
who share the values, objectives and vision for our city .
The framework for Together Townsville is simple, coordinated and encourages
partner and council evaluations on a continual basis . This ensures a
high level of customer service and open communication is maintained

project description >> The initiative is made up of two separate tourism publications
Experience Townsville Street Directory & Guide and the Experience Townsville’s

Both maps are distributed through the regional Visitor Information Centres, south
to Bowen, North to Cairns and Cooktown and west to Mount Isa . The maps are
also circulated at high profile locations throughout Townsville through the Local

townsville tourism expo

an excellent medium for local operators to promote Townsville and the region . It
will contribute towards economic sustainability for our tourist operators as well as
provide opportunities for locals to explore and advocate their region .
The Townsville Tourism Expo was identified as a need from the ‘gap analysis’
conducted by Economic Development . It was found that Townsville can be quite
transient and many locals did not know what tourism experiences and products
are available in our region . Additionally, it was found that Townsville has a large
number of ‘Visiting Friends & Relatives’ (VFR) that could be tapped into .
