Dear Mary Star of the Sea Parishioners, I wish to thank everyone who participated and helped through the recent Easter Season and Solemnities that followed. We had a beautiful Easter Tide thanks to all of you. The season would not have the same without you. We are looking forward to the Summer months and Fiesta and we are once again in Ordinary Time. Ordinary Time is a great reminder from Holy Mother Church to each of us that most of our lives are spent doing ordinary things in ordinary time. But God wants us to sanctify this time and make the most of it each and every day. How do we do this? It is simple. Our ordinary work, no matter what our professional or endeavors are, can become a prayer. There are three easy steps: The first is we sanctify our work by offering whatever we task we are engaged in to God Our Father through the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The second we are sanctified by our work by fidelity to our duties. Thirdly, we sanctify others through our work by a job well done. Our Blessed Lord wishes us to make all of our work, no matter what it may be, Holy, a prayer. If we follow these three easy steps we can ensure that every task we undertake, no matter how small or great, becomes a work of God. As we continue through ordinary time we will ensure that we make it “extra” ordinary time, not wasting one minute but making every minute supernatural. Therefore offering all of our time to God as a prayer. Have a Blessed Week Fr. Harrigan Pastor

DID YOU KNOW? Pool safety is about more than swimming Swimming is a fun way to have some fun and beat the heat during the summer. Parents should teach their children about swimming safety, including how to identify and handle uncomfortable situations. Although you may be watching closely to make sure your kids are safe in the water, don’t forget about when they’re walking around, sitting out by the pool, using the restrooms or out of sight. Teach your children what to do when they feel uncomfortable at the pool, and let them know it is okay to walk away and find a parent or trusted adult at any time. For more information and a copy of the article called “Know the Rules…Summer Safety Tips to Teach Children” from the National Center for Missing and Exploited, email: [email protected] or call (213) 637-7227.

Weekly Holy Hour “Good friends find pleasure in one another’s company. Let us know pleasure in the company of our best Friend, a Friend who can do everything for us, a friend who loves us beyond measure. Here in the Blessed Sacrament we can talk to him straight from the heart.” St. Alphonsus de Liguori Every Wednesday there is a Holy Hour in the church beginning at 7

pm. The hour begins with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. The rosary is prayed with beautiful reflections followed by time for silent adoration and the Divine Mercy Chaplet. The Holy Hour ends with Benediction. Please come and give Jesus the gift of your presence. This is a time of abundant blessings for all!
