editorialAs we celebrate freedom month let us take pride in what we haveachieved so far and put more efforts towards in dealing with thosethat are still a challenge to us.

During the last edition we reflected about the famous Municipaldemarcation board circular 2 of 2015 issued on the 5th February2015. Now the board has moved as step further and issued circular5 of March 2015 and it will continue with the process of consider-ation of determining or re-determining municipal boundaries ofAganang, Mutale, Fetakgomo, Maruleng, Mookgophong and Modi-molle in preparation of 2016 local government elections.

We appreciate and thank those who participated during the publichearings held on the 15th April 2015 at Municipal hall. Of course thisprocess will be finalised on the basis of written submissions, verbalsubmissions and research made. Let us continue to embrace andparticipate in this consultative process until it comes to its logicalconclusion.

The editorial team brings to you theMarch-April online publication of todi.This edition is released during the histor-ic month in our country. April is a free-dom month. This is a month during whichSolomon Kalushi Mahlangu and ChrisHani were killed by the apartheid regime.It is a month during which Oliver Regi-nald Tambo died. On the 27th April 1994South Africans regardless of race queuedto cast their votes for a democratic gov-ernment.

It is through these historic elections thatTata Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela waselected the first black President of SouthAfrica as alluded to by the late BrendaFassie. Let us take a moment a look back andreflect about where we come from as acountry. We have a reason to celebratewith pride 21 years of freedom and 15years of local government. As SouthAfricans we have a good story to shareamongst ourselves, tell Africa and thewhole World.

The newly-well equipped Aganang traffic department was offi-cially opened by Her Worship Mayor, Cllr Maria Mokobodi andthe MEC of Transport Mapula Mokaba Phukwana. The stationwhich is fully fitted with state of the art equipment will serve thecommunity in full. It will help Aganang Community with all servic-es that should be offered within a fully functional traffic unit.These include registration of vehicles, issuing of permits, pay-ments and issuing of license disks, testing and issuing of learn-ers and drivers’ license and testing of vehicles forroadworthiness.

The Traffic unit was previously offering only limited services andcommunity members had to travel to Polokwane or other near-est stations for full services. Her Worship Mayor, Cllr MariaMokobodi believes the opening of this full house service stationwill benefit the community as it will reduce their traveling costsand times spend traveling to Polokwane. She calls upon thecommunity to utilize the services which are available in theirlocal radius. Speaking to some of the community membersduring the official opening, it was very clear that they felt re-lieved.

The MEC of Transport Mapula Mokaba Phukwana promised thatthe department will engage with relevant stakeholders to see ifthere can be a possibility for all municipal traffic units to be ableto help taxi associations with operating permits. She says cur-rently taxi drivers have to travel to Lebowakgomo to apply forpermits, which is a long drive from Aganang. Aganang Chief ofTraffic & Licensing, Kailane Setati says they are happy now asthey will be able to service the community of Aganang to thefullest. He says travelling to Polokwane for driver’s license willbe a thing of the past.

Setati says Aganang Traffic Unit staff isready to deal with an influx of peoplecoming to the station as the number ofservices being offered will increase. Hesays they have been waiting for the daywhen they would be able to offer a fullhouse services.

Moletjie communities and its chief, Kgoshi KgaboMoloto III has celebrated and honored their twoeminent luminaries who hailed from the dusty streetsof Moletjie, the reserve bank governor of SouthAfrica Lesetja Kganyago and judge of Gauteng highcourt Titi Makgoka on Saturday in Moletjie Moshate.

More than 10 000 people from all the corners ofMoletjie attended the event as to witness and cele-brate their eminent luminaries together with the royalfamily of Kgoshi Moloto III. Kgosi SetlamoragoThobejane acknowledged what the royal family ofMoletjie has done to their sons of the soil who havebeen raised deep in rural areas by the poor familieswhich were also struggling even to put a half of abread on the table for their children. He urgedKgoshi Moloto III to keep on doing good thing tothose who deserve them.

On behalf of Kgoshi Mandla Mandela, his motherNoluzapho Mandela also acknowledged the goodwork done by Kgoshi Moloto III. “It was a very greatpleasure and privilege to be part of this event as towitness the honoring of the Moletjie products underKgoshi Moloto III and his people of Moletjie aswhole. Residents of Moletjie should be feeling verythankful to have such a great chief who thinks for hispeople.” Mandela said.

Judge Makgoka appreciated everything thatKgoshi Moloto III and his people did for them onthat special day. “I feel very special to be hon-ored by the people of my community and thesupport they are giving us throughout the diffi-culties. We knew long time ago that Moletjie hasa lot of talents and we didn’t hesitate to bring itto the public and today we are good products ofthis area and the province as a whole. We arewhat we are today because of the Moletjie soiland its leaders,” Makgoka said.

The Republic Governor Lesetja Kganyago whohas been raised in Ga-Maribana, a deep ruralarea of Moletjie also acknowledged the workdone by the royal family of Moletjie. “Peoplefrom rural areas should stop undermining them-selves, all they should know is that with educa-tion there is nothing impossible. I urge to all thelearners of Moletjie to full focus on their educa-tion because with education you can becomewhatever you want to be in life.” Kganyago said.

Acting Premier of the day Kgoshi Seaparo Se-kwati announced this event as a great weaponto the learners of Moletjie and urged the schoollearners from Moletjie and the province aswhole to study hard as to keep Limpopo prov-ince shining over other provinces.

It was Monday morning when we visited theBudget & Treasury team. As usual there was asilent, everyone waiting to be given a new taskor be given an enquiry on the task being pro-cessed. This is the office where most of thefinancial transactions are being processed. Theoffice is always being kept warm by waterboiling urn which supply the neighboring offic-es with boiling water for morning tea or Coffee.

When entering their door it seemed like I amdisturbing as I took all their attention, but withtheir smiles, the whole office welcomed me.That is how I eventually managed to sit downwith them just to listen to what they go througheveryday when they arrive at work.

Employees claims, cashbook registers, captur-ing and balancing of books are just some of thethings this team is forever doing. After spend-ing sometime in this office I realized that thisforever united team do anything they can tomake sure that the finances are run smoothly.

Aganang host a successful 2015 Mayor’s Marathon

The 2015 Mayor’s Marathon was held in a cloudy andrainy weather which favored the participating athletesby saving them from dry and hot temperatures thatare usually being experienced in Aganang. Morethan 350 athletes from Aganang and other areas ofLimpopo, South Africa and even those from neigh-boring countries embraced the chilly Sunday morningweather to be part of the marathon.

The 15 KM race was completed within 2 hours withmen race being scooped by Tseiso Moeketsi fromFree State, while Fuhura Molle from Tanzania tookthe 1st title for the women race. They both went homewith a cash price of R3000 each, medals and tro-phies. Many young people from Aganang were givenawards in the 5 KM developmental race.

Her Worship Mayor, Cllr Maria Mokobodi is veryhappy with the attendance which included elders,youth and children. She says this annual Mayor’sMarathon is to encourage the culture of participationin sports within our communities, and also to promotehealthy living, but the main purpose being to empow-er athletes and giving them an opportunity to show-case their abilities. “We encourage children from 12years to participate in such activities in future, ourelders at home we also encourage them to partici-pate so they keep themselves healthy”.

The marathon was done in association with Mo-letjie Athletics Club, which insured that all properrules are applied to making the marathon of thenational and international standards. Municipalsports coordinator Donald Matsi says the munici-pality will continue to organize various sportingactivities to keep young people away from thestreets, by offering them an opportunity to realizetheir talents.

Matsi says this is not the first sporting activity, asthey also organize Annual Mayor’s Soccer Tourna-ment.

Some of the athletes who formed part of the racesaid they feel honored to be part of the marathonas it also serves as a training platform. Some of theathletes said they are using the race to keep them-selves fit. Majority of the athletes are already pre-paring for the National Inter-ChampionshipMarathon to be held in Mpumalanga in September2015.

Aganang Municipality is proud of various athleteswho were identified and developed in the Munici-pality by Moletjie Athletics Club.

CONSISTENT PRACTICE MAKES WINNERS IN SPORT

Aganang Local Municipality sport codes includesoccer, volleyball and netball which will take part inthe Provincial game. IMSSA games are part of themunicipal wellness initiative which encouragesteamwork, building relationships and keeping mu-nicipal workers fit and healthy.

This annual sporting event takes place at the pro-vincial level, paving the way for the Internationaltournament known as Southern Africa Inter-Munici-pal Sports Association (SAIMSA) which will takeplace in September every year. SAIMSA games willtake place in Lesotho from 18- 26 September 2015

On 19 March 2015, Aganang team played againstW.F Knobel team at the Municipal sport ground.This was one of the practice matches which wasorganised during the Sport Day. Both teams wereeager for a win as it was their first game in 2015where the teams played together. Unfortunatelythere is no obvious win in the soccer field.

Aganang won 02-0 against Knobel team. CarltonMoloto scored the first goal and Lambert Rafaphaput another one into the net. The Caretaker Coach,Richard Shilabye said the standard Aganang play-ers showed was impressive. “I am certain that if ourboys continue to play like this and follow instruc-tions as coached, we will bring something from thecoming IMSSA and SAIMSA competitions”, ex-plained the coach. Moloto expressed his goal as thegoal of the year for Aganang team.
