9/10 Entry Task: Grab a Spring Board book from shelf, then grab the half sheet and

scoring guide from the front table.

• Put your name on the side(spine), and on the top of the book with a Sharpie.

• Once you have finished, have your journal out and open to a fresh page.

• Sit quietly and wait for next steps.

In your journal- create the following pages.

• First blank page: Unit 1 Assessment 1. – This is the page you will be unpacking the

assessment and unit, which means you are identifying the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully complete the first assessment.

• Next page Unit 1 Assessment 1 Vocabulary• The vocabulary page is where you will be writing and

then defining words you’ll need to know for this unit. List the words you come across that you don’t know, as well as the words I identify for you.

Unpacking Embedded Assessment 1What are the two actions required?

Your assignment is to interview a person who has had a coming of age experience. From that interview, you will write a narrative that effectively portrays the voice of the interviewee while revealing how the experience contributed to his or her coming of age.

Coming of Age and the connection to Bildungsroman novels

• Coming of age: the moral and/or psychological growth of a person.

• Bildungsroman: Class of novel derived from German literature that deals with the formative years of the main character, whose moral and psychological development is depicted. It typically ends on a positive note, with the protagonist's foolish mistakes and painful disappointments behind him/her and a life of usefulness ahead.

Tonight’s HW

• Think about a person to interview for this assignment. – Must be an adult.– Must be someone you know. – Must be able to be done in person.

• The Interview must be scheduled by September 15th, and completed by September 22nd.

Weekend TASK (EMBEDDED ASSESSMENT 1)

This weekend you will make plans to conduct an INTERVIEW. You will select the person and contact him/her to schedule a time and place.On the half sheet of paper, you will fill in the required information, have a parent (or the person you will interview) sign.

Next weekend (by the 23rd) you will write an INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT. The transcript will be the written form of the interview, including the contact information and brief background of the interviewee.

Starting on the 23rd, you will write an INTERVIEW NARRATIVE. The narrative will have the elements of a good story: plot, character, setting, conflict, point of view, and theme.You will use 3 descriptive categories to bring life to the character (interviewee): appearance, speech, and actions.
