Headmaster’s Corner Congratulations to Larry Williamson who has been offered a Scholarship to Clifton High School. Well done, Larry! Well done to George Bloomfield and Hannah Williams who gave two super presentations to Lower School this week on skiing (including a super Geography lesson about how mountains are formed) and being a member of Rainbows. In the photograph George is holding his model piste-basher! They had both clearly worked extremely hard on this and both should be congratulated on the confident manner in which they spoke; well done to you both and good luck to the rest of Year 2 as they prepare for theirs in the forthcoming weeks. Special congratulations also go to our Tennis Team who were victorious on Monday evening with a super win in the Beaudesert tennis tournament which included teams from Clifton College, St Hugh’s and Dean Close. Charlie Sanzo and Harvey Jones won the U13 tournament, beating St Hugh’s into second place. Elliott Orchard and Max Curtis were 5th overall in the 2nd string U13 tournament and Alex Jacobi and Alex Grocott were 3rd in the U11 tournament, losing in the semi-final. In addition to the tennis success, the school had much to celebrate with all three girls’ teams winning their rounders matches against St John’s-on-the- Hill. Meanwhile, back home, the First XI Cricket Team produced a dazzling winning display against Monmouth with Max Curtis scoring 53 not out. Well done to all! The Family Fun Day and Triathlons are now not too far away. This will be a super event and I know that our children would thoroughly enjoy their first experience of a triathlon. Swimming News

Congratulations to Rachel Shutt in Year 5 who smashed the U11 school record in front crawl; 15.99 seconds puts her as the 2nd fastest swimmer in the school. Seren remains the one to beat at 15.90! Well done also to Jake Wakeling in Year 4 who swam 50 metres in 43.7 seconds.

Athletics

Congratulations to Dalis Jones who beat the 2009 U11 Girls 600m held by Isabelle Gent. The new mark now stands at 2 minutes 10 seconds. Well done, Dalis!

STOP PRESS Amy Horler has broken the U12 Girls 75m record held by Rachel Caul. The new mark stands at 11.94 seconds. Well done, Amy!

Photography Competition

It’s time to get your cameras out and get snapping over half term! The theme for the competition this term is COLOUR. Everything becomes more colourful in summer time – gardens, sunsets, hot air balloons, kites, summer picnics, parasols, ice creams and beach fun, not forgetting our own Family Fun Day which is sure to be colourful!

The closing date for entries is Friday 27th June and entries should either be emailed to the school office or submitted to Mrs Mockridge on a named USB stick. Remember to take as high a resolution image as possible because the winning entry will be reproduced onto a canvas. Runners up will win a prize too!

The competition is open to everyone and the winner and runners up will be announced at the end of term. Good luck!

Now it’s hard enough running a 10K but under a Chinese Dragon as well!? We’re all very impressed Mrs Warn!
