SPORTS NEWSCongratulations to:- Harvey Jones, Elliott Orchard and Charlie Sanzo on being awarded their

Tennis Colours.House Rounders:- The final result was:-

Sharing 1st Place Churchill and Cunningham

    3rd place AlexanderMOM Imogen Rees

U8 Rounders with The Downs:- Because The Downs came with 12 players we mixed them allup so we could play 9 a side. We had a lovely coaching afternoon playing

rounders in the sun. The final score was :- Sharks 13 Leopards 12.U9 Cricket v Beaudesert:- A Good Victory! WON by 31 runs. A good performance.

MOM Archie WestU9 Rounders Tournament @ The Downs:- This was a long but enjoyable afternoon. The girls

gave a good account of themselves and did very well to beat two prestigiousschools, especially as we were the only school with Y3s in their team - CliftonCollege and Dean Close - Very Well Done Girls!

U11 Rounders Tournament @ Clifton College:- The U11 girls rounders team played extremelywell in the Severnside tournament on Wednesday and although they did not win any of the sixmatches the girls battled on in the sunshine and showed true determination throughout. Player ofthe tournament was Talia for her two outstanding catches and decisive fielding. Well done girls !

CONGRATULATIONS to Isabelle and Elodie Prestonwho both took part in the inaugural Isle of Wight NeedlesFun Run at the weekend and did exceptionally well in the1.5K race, with Isabelle winning in her age group.

House CricketAfter much debate as to what the weather was going to do we checked the sea-weed and decided to take a chance. As it turned out the seaweed was right and weonly had to endure one short shower during what developed into a lovely afternoon. The first game resulted in a 34 run win for Alexander over Churchill. Churchill had tochase down 55 runs but found it difficult in their allotted 6 overs. Churchill thenwent on to play Cunningham, but again, found the opposition too strong; losing by7wkts. This resulted in the final game effectively being winner takes all. The gamewas very close with Cunningham needing 9 off the last over to win. However, theyfell just short, resulting in a win for Alexander by 3 runs and winning the Inter HouseCricket Cup.During the afternoon there were some creditable performances; Bennie Sanzo andJames Allan taking good catches, good bowling from Angus Duncan and good bat-ting form many. The champagne moment of the day was a one handed catch div-ing to his right by Max Curtis. All the boys are to be congratulated for their efforts but Mr Mildon and myself se-lected Angus Duncan and Max Curtis to share the outstanding player award for theafternoon. SWIMMING REPORTThe annual Severnside gala was held on Thursday. To be selected as a member of the school swim team isa great achievement of which all who took part should be very proud indeed.

We recorded our best ever position, of 2nd, all with a weakened squad. There were wins for Max Curtis, Seren Clayton, Alex Grocott, Lou Saelens, Jake Wakeling [ 2 races], IonaCampbell and Olivia Banks

School records were broken by Jake Wakeling in both races, Oivia Banks and the Under 11 Girls freestylerelay team of Ella Howard-Robinson, Ellie Parker, Helena Brain and Rachel Shutt.

In the individual races we were winners. Relays will always test smaller school squads and St Johns felt thispressure too.

A huge thank you to all the Staff who made it work like clockwork. The following received stars for their help-fulness before AND after the Gala. Thanks to Alex Gooch, Tom Edwards, Max Curtis and Elliott Orchard fortheir support.

Swimmer of the day was undoubtedly Lou Saelens who won the U9 25 metre breaststroke and flew downthe pool in a PB for crawl, in the U9 Medley relay. Well done to all of you. BH

The final scores were: Beaudesert park 156, Wycliffe 80, TMS 128, St Johns 76show a huge year on year improvement

Bruce Cross - Director of Studies 1999 - 2001We are all so sad at TMS to hear the news about Bruce. Our thoughts are with you Maria, Eden, Scavannal andTheo. He was a good friend, colleague and inspirational teacher during his 2 years at Tockington. We have such good

memories of Bruce; his endless enthusiasm, his sense of fun and his drive and determination to do his best onbehalf of the pupils. We fell so privileged to have known and shared a friendship with Bruce. We loved our nightsout, the charity event hosted by Dennis Low and running the Bristol half Marathon and the Sodbury Slog in 2000,as well as his super Drama productions. Rest in Peace Bruce.JJ,KS, BR, BH, AC, JG, LW and everyone at TMS - A prayer was said for him in assembly on Tuesday.

South Gloucestershire PilgrimageToday I went to a small church on top of a hill to meet the Bishop of Gloucester who is makinga Pilgrimage around the area. Right now he and 24 people are walking 16 miles across theSevern Bridge to the next church.

We had to get up very early to travel to the church and when we got there a lady stood on alectern and we had to reply to her prayers. Afterwards, we stood in a little circle and we had to

take it turns to read a line from the prayer book. We had to pick a special sentence that made us think aboutsomething. Then a special word and say it to the whole group and tell them what it meant to us.

At the end of the service the Bishop told us about the history of the church we were in andall about the first priest St. Augustine. We went outside and watched them leave on theirlong walk.

I found it all very interesting!By Peter Banks
