JJ’s Row4Rob JJ has now completed his year long row in aid of Robert Camm an OT. He started on 1st March last year and finished last Sunday. His original target was 1,400,000m but actually achieved 2,054,000m - amazing - further than London -Naples! His best month was Feb-ruary when the 2million metres was in sight and he rowed 323km (= Tockington to Leeds) and suffered cramps, blisters, calluses and Thank you to all those who have already supported him helping him to raise £11,200 so far. If you have not done so just follow the link to JJ’s donation page www.cammpaign4Rob.co.uk , or money can be brought to school.

Paired Reading It was Paired Reading on Wednesday morning, when all classes are paired up to enjoy books together. This is always very reciprocal and enjoyable for all

Milk Shake Monday It was Year 5's turn to have a delicious milkshake and a biscuit for their Milkshake Monday Morning. They listened to articles from the First News newspaper, to which the library subscribes, along with the National Geographic for Kids. Much fun was had by all.

Well done JJ!

World Book Day - Special Report

World Book Day was tremendous. We really do appreciate the enormous effort all of you parents put into costumes, book swap arrangements and photos for display. The children have had fun in character and in taking part in the many activities throughout the day. Photographs are on display in the Library – many were very creative and a lot of fun. You will also find the winning entries in the Library for our own 500 word story-writing competition. The winners were : Y8 Y7 Y6 1st – Tom Edwards 1st – Ellie Parker 1st – Tabitha Huby 2nd – Abby Blackwell 2nd – Alex Ganfield 2nd – Isabel Browning 3rd – Lucy Allan-Jones 3rd – Alex Grocott 3rd – Ceredig Jones Y5 Y4 1st – Isabelle Preston 1st - Erin O’Leary 2nd – Otis Walker 2nd – Toby Gaulton 3rd – Jake Wakeling 3rd – Harry Mather All of the story entries were so good to read, but these were the winners. You can now read their stories on our website or in the library, where you can also see the winning Book Cover Designs and many more.

Winners of the Book Cover Designs were: Y7 – Alex Jacobi Y6 – Anya Constantinescu Y5 – Iona Campbell Y4 – Angel Burrows Y3 – Amy Tucker Y2 – Alexander Nguyen Y1 – Marie Veron YR – Elsie Lewis Eva Lewis from Year2 received a special commendation for a super book that she wrote, complete with Book Cover Design. This was read out to us all in assembly and can be looked at in the library.

Angus Duncan was very brave and read to the whole school, which was no mean feat! Well done, Angus! The Great Book Swap was fun at break and thank you again for taking part in this.

After a very busy day, prep was held from Years 3 to 8 in the Hall with duvets, sleeping bags, pillows and beanbags. The Hall looked like one great sleepover. The only difference was that everyone was reading!

If you want to follow up on the enthusiasm generated for World Book Day, do look at the Biggest Book Show on Earth which is on the World Book Day website and see what a range of authors say about writing successfully. For ideas for reading and to see Isabelle Preston’s newly submitted review on The Big Wish, go the LoveReading4Kids website. It is brimming over with great ideas! Your child will have brought home a pack of goodies for World Book Day. Can I please urge you to look through these and to get involved in the Readathon? Even £2 sponsorship from each child would make an impressive amount. The Readathon monies will be collected after the Easter break so there is plenty of time to get your children making reading promises. It is so important to get the reading habit early in a child’s life. Also, your child has a £1 voucher which they can spend in any bookshop and can exchange for one of the specially commissioned WBD books. These are only valid until March 29th. Finally a reminder that the Book Fair will be open next week after school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3.15pm to 4 pm. Please come and browse with your children and consider whether you could maybe stock up on good quality books for high days and holidays. Many thanks to you, to the children and to all members of staff, who entered into the spirit of the day and who shared their favourite books with the children. A special thank you to Mrs Mockridge and Miss Walters for their inspiration for the Book Cover Competition. Judith Case

SWIMMING NEWS Congratulations to Harry Penwarden and Stephanie Taylor for completing their first length. George Bloomfield kept going and swam 50ms! All the children from Year 1 to Year 8 are working on their stamina and all are improving! Badges and Certificates will be issued at the end of term. All of Reception and Year 1 won ‘Swimmer of the Week’ stickers for beating their targets. A fantastic achievement by them all. Thornbury Swimarathon:- Last Friday our Sharks and Dolphins battled hard in the relay races at Thornbury Leisure Centre in aid of local Charities and as always, trying to beat their records! The Sharks target was 157 lengths in 55 minutes and after a tough, fun and musical hour they secured 155.5 lengths; until Alex Gooch's Gran noticed a mathematical error! After some negotiation, we finally secured 156.5 rounded to 157! The sharks therefore equalled the record set last year. The attitiude of the team was fantastic and even when they [ Tom Edwards, Olivia Campbell, Oliver Shutt, Abby Blackwell, Alex Gooch and Ellie Parker] thought they had been beaten by the clock they were the first to congratulate the Dolphins, who smashed the record of 144 lengths with a startling 150. On the night, the Sharks and the Dolphins were the leading 2 teams by some 30 lengths at the 6.15pm session out of 14 teams. The Dolphins made up of: Rachel Shutt, Iona Campbell, Jonathan Baguley; Ella Howard Robinson; Angus Duncan and Katie Shutt [who thought she was spectating but found herself swimming.] swam with such determination. A big thanks to parents for organising sponsorship; this year we appear to have raised over £450. Thank you too for the cheers, silly hats and support; it was a fun evening! Many of our year 8s have taken part every year and in the last 4 years the Edwards, Blackwell, Gooch, and Campbell families have contributed £1000 or more! I shall miss them next year; many of them have been part of the event for so long, they even know the playlist for the Castle school steel band! Wim A Way was going around my head ALL night! BH

U13 Netball v Wycliffe Despite losing the game the girls played so well that Wycliffe awarded the MOM award to the whole team. A true compliment to the girls.

Football v Sidcot The U9, U11 and U13 all had ex-cellent WINS away on Wednes-day. U9 winning 7-0, U11 6-0 and the U13 4-2 with a first goal from George Symonds. The U13 M.o.M was Adrian Ng who saved a penalty and played superbly. Well done to all the teams for a fantastic effort.
