Designation: The Knightsbridge GreenConservation Area was designated in January 1989.

Historical Background: The area retains much ofits late Victorian development which is metropolitanin scale and built in red brick with stone and faiencedressings. Most post second world warredevelopment in this area has failed to respect theestablished late Victorian character and scale andhas visually disrupted the continuity of thetownscape. However the quality of the remainingbuildings with their uniform scale, materials anddetails still dominate the area.

Listed Buildings: None.

Key Features: Knightsbridge Green is a compactand homogeneous cluster of buildings which,although small in area, exerts a predominantinfluence on the character of the surroundingenvironment by virtue of its position at the junction ofKnightsbridge and Brompton Road. Most prominentis Park Mansions, the building at the apex of thejunction. Other buildings of interest include theNormandie Hotel, built 1912. The network of intimatepublic routes and spaces, including KnightsbridgeGreen and Park Close, are important, giving accessfrom the busy Brompton Road through to thetranquillity of Hyde Park..

The area is part of the Knightsbridge shoppingcentre.

Adjacent Conservation Areas: KnightsbridgeConservation Area is to the west. Royal ParksConservation Area to the north, and the RoyalBorough of Kensington and Chelsea to the south.East beyond Bowater House is the Albert GateConservation Area.
