How to Access SimClaim™ from CengageBrain.com using an Access Code

SimClaim is a resource located on the Premium Website that is provided with purchase of the print

book. To access, you need the code on the printed card that’s bound into either of the textbooks listed

at the top of this document.

Login through CengageBrain. You will need to create an account if you don’t already have one. Then use

the code on the Printed Access Card bound into your textbook to access the product.

Then you will see the product on your bookshelf. Click ‘Open’ next to the Premium Website to access

SimClaim and other free resources:



Access SimClaim from the portal page:

SimClaim will launch in a new window. Click on a case to begin:



General Instructions for SimClaim will pop up once you click on a case to start working. Hit ‘Ok’ to move

past:

Selecting Study Mode or Test Mode

Across the top, select Study Mode or Test Mode. Study Mode gives you immediate feedback as you

data enter each block. In Test Mode, you receive no feedback until you submit the entire form. Check

with your instructor if you are unsure which mode to select.

Toggle between the case study and the blank CMS forms using the tabs across the top. Note: the case

studies are also printed for you in Appendix I of the textbook.



In Study Mode, as you data enter, anything that appears grayed out was corrected/solved by the

program. Anything in black was correctly entered by you:

In Test Mode, complete the entire CMS form, then select ‘Grade Case’ from the pull‐down Options

menu.



Saving Your Work in SimClaim

From the Options menu at the upper left, select the ‘Save Case’ from the pull‐down menu:

When you do, a box will pop up asking you to name your case:

Enter a name you will remember. Hint: use the Case number listed across the top of the program.

Note: the system does not let you select a save location, as any saved work you save is saved to the

server.



Opening a Saved Case

To open a case you’ve saved to continue working, select ‘Load Saved Case’ from the pull‐down Options

menu:

A pop‐up window will appear asking you which of your saved cases you want to open. Select the case

you want, then hit ‘Load Case’.



How to Print to PDF in SimClaim

If you would like to print your work to PDF, click on the form you would like to print from the pull‐down

menu under ‘Printable Version’ across the top:

You have the option to print the primary or secondary CMS‐1500 form, the case study, and a summary

report.

The following print dialog box will open:

Selecting the print options will open another tab in your browser window with a printable version of the

form you selected. To print, navigate to the print function from within the browser window and select

‘Print.’



This is an example using the Google Chrome browser:

Select the option to Save as PDF:



Save the PDF file to a location on your computer that you can easily find again.

Close the print browser window and return to the program.
