1. The children lived in London.
2. Edmund was bad tempered because he was tired and was
pretending not to be tired.
3. The adventures began with the children exploring the house.
4. Lucy first realised that something queer was happening when
she could not feel the back of the wardrobe. (You could argue
that it was when she first felt the snow under her feet).

To write a description based on a text
Today we will be writing a short description using the first
chapter of The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe.
TASK: Imagine that you have just stepped foot inside the wardrobe and it transports you to the magical
land of Narnia. Your task is to write a description of what you see. Imagine that your reader has never seen this place. It is your job to paint a picture with
words for them.
Remember to include what you see, hear, smell, taste and feel.
You need lots of exciting adjectives and write in the first person.
A good idea is to write a brief mind map so you know what key vocabulary you plan to use.
Challenge!
Include a key word or phrase from the original text to help with your description.
Use a thesaurus (or online thesaurus if you do not have one) to find an alternative adjective for your description.
Include a new sight or event which is not in the chapter to make your world sound even more magical!
We are excited to see how you get on. Use the emails below if you would like to show us how you got on with
the descriptive writing:
