May was a busy and successful month for us all at the Lockyer Community Centre.
2nd
May we held an Open Day which was well supported and we had many new faces come along which was
great to see. The day provided a great opportunity for us to share with everyone some information about our
programs, services, projects and future plans. We also received some great input from people on the day
providing ideas on what they would like to see at their community centre. So give us some time we are
listening, we hope to address some of those items in the future.
17th
May we commenced our ‘Bangin Beats’ six day music workshop, this is aimed at using music as a pathway
to connecting with disengaged youth. So there has been some great sounds developing and coming from our
event building.
17th
May – as part of Mental Health Week we held our Mental Health & Community Connections Expo at the
Gatton Shire Hall. We had a great response to this first time event with good attendance and support shown.
17th
May we had the pleasure of sharing afternoon tea and presenting an informative talk to the Parkinson’s
Support Group at our centre. So that was great opportunity to share a little bit about what we do here and our
future hopes and dreams.
20th
May was our Family Wellbeing Day held at Littleton Park Gatton. This event was held in recognition of
National Families Week & Domestic Violence Prevention Month. What a great day that was! There was plenty
of good old fashioned outdoor family games and activities, I am thinking perhaps next year we might have a
pie throwing game, what do you think??? This event attracted over 200 people throughout the day and all
enjoyed free entertainment, sausage sizzle, activities, games, displays and market stalls. Plus of course the
best dressed teddy competition. Check some photos from the day included in this month’s newsletter.
23rd
May As part of National Volunteers Week, we had the chance to celebrate and acknowledge our amazing
volunteers that help us function on a day to day basis. We all enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Royal Hotel and had
a chance to stop for an hour or so and enjoy each other’s company. All our volunteer were presented with a
gift and a special presentation was held to celebrate the accomplishment of one of volunteers as shown on
front page of this newsletter.
27th
May we participated in the Lockyer Multicultural Festival which is always a pleasure and enjoyed some
great food, entertainment and met some lovely members of our community.
So summing up it was a busy crazy month for all our staff and wonderful volunteers.
Thank you to all those people that participated and supported our events.
Phew think it’s time for us all to have a well-deserved rest……..
